Hi, today I am selling "Ol' Blue". This is a 1988 GMC regular cab 2WD pickup. I have owned it since 2003, when it had 120,000 miles. It now technically has 176,000 miles, but the truck has been mechanically rebuilt. It only has about 4,000 miles on the rebuild. Details of the rebuild below.
This was my daily driver for years. About two years ago, on a rainy night in December, I took an extra three or four seconds staring at the rising gas prices as I drove by local station. In that exact same three or four seconds, a guy in an old ford pickup in front of me missed his turn and slammed on his brakes. I braked hard, but the road was wet, so I hit him in the back. It messed up the grill, bumper, and one of the fenders. Not a serious wreck, but I went ahead and bought a front clip off a later 90's GMC truck, because it swaps out perfectly with the '88, and it looks so much better. After I installed all of these body parts, I had it painted a very pretty blue metallic color. This rebuild is only about one year old, and 4000 miles. I did this for my son, who is now off to college, and the truck is just sitting there. Here is the list of the new/rebuilt items: 1) Front clip (hood, grille, bumper, fenders from later 90's GMC. 2) New paint 3) New a/c condenser, radiator. 4) A/C system totally rebuilt including compressor. blows cold. 5) New alternator, battery, belts and hoses. 6) New Pioneer stereo system with USB hookup, CD, and Sirius capability. New speakers too. 7) 700R4 Transmission was totally rebuilt about two weeks before the wreck!. 8) The original motor had low compression and used/burned a lot of oil, so I replaced the engine with a new Jasper 350. It has only 4000 miles on it. Oil has been changed twice. 9) Brakes are rebuilt. 10) Tires are about 60% good. Went out and found some chrome center caps for the cool rally wheels. 11) New carpet. Interior was in pretty good shape, so I did not re-do that, other than the carpet. 12) New headlights, marker lights. 13) Chrome tool box in the bed. 14) Front end totally rebuilt. Ball joints, Pitman and Idler arms, etc. All components replaced. I have invested right at $11,000 in this rebuilding. This truck is mechanically brand new. The interior is the only thing that shows the wear of 176,000 miles, but even that is still pretty nice. There is a small tear in the driver's side of the seat, and the door panels are showing wear. See pics. Things that are not perfect: 1) Fuel gauge: tends to hang out at the 1/4 full level. It sticks there on a regular basis. I just always zero'd the trip meter when I filled up, and drove it to 250-300 miles. 2) Tilt wheel: it has some movement up and down. needs to be tightened up. Not a big deal, but not perfect. 3) Other than the general wear of the interior, that's about it. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions about the truck. I am not going to give it away, but I know that I will not ever get all that money back out if it. This is going to be a basically new truck for a very reasonable price. Good Luck! |

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra show all their sides in Detroit
Tue, 15 Jan 2013There could hardly be more riding on the next-generation General Motors full-size pickup trucks, so the automaker has wisely made sure to have a selection of different models on hand at the Detroit Auto Show to show off. The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra were both officially introduced last month at a stand-alone reveal, and now they'll be on display for the public to see in various body configurations and trim levels.
The Silverado LTZ Crew Cab and Sierra SLE Extended Cab are aimed at providing more of a high-end pickup experience, while the Silverado LT Z71 Extended Cab and Sierra SLT Z71 Crew Cab should have off-road fans scouting out their favorite trails. The crew cab trucks won't go into production until sometime during the second quarter of this year - with other bodystyles coming later in the year - but we have plenty of live images from Detroit for you to enjoy.

Mon, Jan 26 2015Try as they might to keep their plans a secret, automakers have their hands tipped through a variety of methods – be they through loose lips, spy shots or patent and trademark applications. That's how we know, in this instance, that General Motors is working on (or at least considering) an off-road machine wearing the name Z71 Trail Boss – the name which our compatriots at AutoGuide.com tell us that GM has registered for use on light-duty trucks. Now if that alphanumeric designator sounds familiar, it should. GM has long used it to designate the off-road packages on many of its body-on-frame trucks from Chevy and GMC. These days you can order a Z71 package on the Chevy Colorado, Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban and on the GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon. The package typically includes components like a beefed-up suspension bits, high-capacity air cleaner and underbody protection plates. The Trail Boss designator would seem to suggest something further reaching than a suspension package, though. Just what it would entail we don't know; minds immediately start running toward Chevy or GMC going after the Ford F-150 Raptor, but we'll likely be looking at something closer to the Trailhawk packages Jeep offers on the likes of the Renegade and Cherokee.
