2018 GMC Yukon Denali gets a sculpted new grille

More than half of all GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models sold wear top-level Denali trim. That's a profitable scenario for the automaker, so, perhaps above all else, GMC needs its premium Denali series of vehicles to continue to stand out in a line of trucks and SUVs at the dealership lot. Hence, chrome, and lots of it. But for 2018, GMC is blessing the behemoth Yukon Denali with an added dose of class with a new multi-dimensional grille. "The new grille, which is flanked by HID headlamps and LED Signature Lighting, advances the design legacy established with the very first Yukon Denali in 1999," said Matt Noone, director of Global GMC Exterior Design. In addition to a sophisticated new look, the grille adds customizable cooling capabilities to the Denali range. Active shutters open when additional cooling is needed, or close to reduce aerodynamic drag when the engine isn't too warm. Further increasing the efficiency of the big brutish 'ute is a new 10-speed automatic transmission. That's two extra gears over the 2017 Yukon Denali, leading to a numerically lower final drive to help save fuel at highway speeds. Inside, Mastique Ash wood trim differentiates the 2018 model from previous years. A 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine remains standard for 2018, as do blingy 20-inch wheels with 22 inchers optional. 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD All Terrain X eyes Ram Power Wagon

If where you're going, you don't need roads, you're spoiled for choice by American automakers. Ford has the F-150 Raptor, Jeep the iconic Wrangler, and Ram offers Power Wagon. And that's just the tip of the factory off-road iceberg. General Motors is getting in on the off-roading action with the Canyon and Sierra 1500 All Terrain X. Now, the automaker is adding another notch on its belt with the Sierra 2500HD All Terrain X. On the outside, GMC continues to the all-black trend as the rest of its off-roading-oriented lineup, which includes 18-inch aluminum wheels finished in black, a bespoke grille surround, black sport bar that's mounted in the truck's bed, and four-inch side steps in black. The All Terrain X will only be offered in two colors – Black Onyx and Summer White. Those looking for more off-roading capabilities and tack the Z71 off-road suspension package as an option on the All Terrain X, adding performance Rancho shocks, Hill Descent Control, and a shield for the underbody transfer case. Two engine choices lie under this crew cab pickup's massive hood - the 6.0-liter gas V8 or the all-new Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8. The gasoline-powered V8 continues to make 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while the new Duramax turbo-diesel generates 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. While the All Terrain X may not have the same murderous look as the Ram Power Wagon, it makes off-roading a luxurious affair. And it's blacked out. The 2500HD power wagon will be on sale early next year, with a pricing announcement coming sometime in the next few months. 2017 GMC Acadia starts at $29,995

The 2017 GMC Acadia has a lower price in addition to its smaller size and 700-pound weight loss. The latest model starts at $29,995 (including $925 destination) when it arrives at dealers this spring, which is $1,905 less than last year's base version. That low price is just for the front-wheel-drive only SL trim, but there are savings throughout the 2017 lineup. The least expensive all-wheel drive version comes on the SLE model for $35,375, versus $37,100 last year (after $925 destination). The top-spec all-wheel drive Denali now costs $47,845, compared to $50,815 for the 2016 version. You can check out the MSRP for each trim in the release below. The new All Terrain model costs $40,040 and gets a more sophisticated all-wheel drive system with an active twin clutch. GMC claims the layout improves performance in wet, snowy and icy conditions. However, the trim is only available in five-passenger configuration, and storage bins in the floor replace the third-row seat. The 2017 Acadia price is also competitive with some challengers in the segment. For example, a base 2016 Honda Pilot is more expensive at $31,045 (after $900 destination), and the top Elite is $47,470, which is barely cheaper than the Denali. A base 2016 Ford Explorer is more costly at $31,995 (after $945 destination), and the Platinum for $53,915 is several thousand more than a Denali. The latest Acadia offers customers a bounty of tech and efficient powertrains. The IntelliLink infotainment system has support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there're available safety systems like front pedestrian braking and a surround view camera. Most models come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which GMC estimates gets 22 miles per gallon city and 28 mpg highway with front-wheel drive. A 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 offers an estimated 25 mpg highway for front-wheel drive models. Both powertrains use a six-speed automatic.
