1996 Gmc Safari Extended Passenger Van 3-door 4.3l on 2040-cars
Oxnard, California, United States
Very strong running van with low mileage, drives very well. Lots of room for 3 bench seats, and a nice ceiling panel feature complete with lights, and trip computer/compass.
It is in mechanically sound condition, from what I can see. It belongs to a family member (brother) and thus, I am not the expert on it. I drove it about 7 miles in town, and the engine runs really strong. I did not detect/hear any odd engine or transmission sounds, no knocking or tappet sounds or anything like that, not that I hear. The exhaust is clean, no oil (or otherwise) clouds or visible exhaust. The transmission shifts properly, and cycles through the gears well. It drives well. It does leak some power steering fluid, however. It has a neat overhead panel with lights on the ceiling. I believe that this was an upgrade. It could seat 2-3 on each bench seat, and if you added 2 more bench seats, perhaps seating 11, or, if 2 per bench seat, 8. Very low mileage for an 18 year old car. I believe that it has rear air conditioning or at least vents in the rear as well for a/c. Despite the van's strong running/drivability, some interior trim pieces are either broken or missing, and there are some door latches that need repair, including (from my own inspection): Neither of the 2 front doors (passenger and driver) are openable by the outside latches. The doors open and shut fine from the inside. Just leave the windows open, reach in, and unlatch the door from the inside or enter through the sliding door. The hatch (rear door) won't stay up long, if not propped up, it eventually falls. The gate-open switch seems to work about 1/2 the time, intermittent. The passenger window works fine, then later, doesn't, then later, does. The rear bumper, for whatever reason, is sagging downwards. There is a broken side/panel window latch, i.e., the kind that opens up maybe 3". It doesn't affect anything if you don't open up the window, and even if you do open up the window, you only need 1 of these 2 latches, it appears. There is a missing plastic housing that covers up the seat belt on the bench seat. The driver's door arm rest has been taped/repaired and is cracked. It works fine, however. There are some stains on the carpeting in places, shown in the photos. There are 2 missing drawers of sorts in the dashboard. One was an ash tray, I think. I don't know what the other one does. The third knob on the row of knobs (above the radio) doesn't turn anything. Tires look great, and appear to have a good tread left on them. Carpeting looks fine, but does have a few stains. These can probably be eliminated. I gave the van a light scrubbing and most of everything cleaned up fine. The upholstery is in fine condition except the noted tear (about 2-3") on the driver's seat. There is a slight mis-seaming of the driver's side front quarter panel and the hood. Paint on the hood has faded. Paint has scratches and oxidation (or is it oxidization) on most sides of the van. There are some visible scratches from the paint of another vehicle, perhaps, having scraped the right (passenger) side/rear quarter panel, near the sliding door, and on the sliding door itself. There is a small dent/ding (about 3" or so) on the sliding door. On both the driver and passenger doors, for whatever reason, there is about a 5" abrasion where the black paint is coming off of the door. The rear bumper slopes downwards and maybe a little loose from what it is supposed to be like. There is about a 3" rip in the driver's seat, but something that you could easily repair. The steering wheel has been pinched, if you will, at its top. It's as though somebody took a pair of vice grips and smashed it a little. It works otherwise fine. There's a missing radio knob. The front-right bumper (corner) has a slight abrasion and perhaps indentation. I do not know if the a/c works, but would assume that, at a minimum, it needs a charge. The radio works in the front, anyway. I didn't confirm the rear or other speakers' functionality. We are selling this van on an as-is basis, and would encourage you (the buyer) to inspect and drive it before buying as the above is the case, i.e., I'm not knowledgable on vans, GM models, and don't know what is, and is not relevant to the van-buying public in this price range and vintage. We have marked it down significantly below KBB to accommodate the miscellaneous body / interior repair items, should you wish to update these items. The buyer must arrange pick up or shipping. |

2014 GMC Sierra 4.3L V6 to offer segment-best 305 LB-FT
Mon, 06 May 2013General Motors has released more information on the 4.3-liter V6 available in the 2014 GMC Sierra. The engine will serve up 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission, and giving the V6 Sierra a maximum tow rating of 7,200 pounds in regular cab, short bed four-wheel drive configuration. GM claims that figure is 500 pounds more than the equivalent Ford F-150 equipped with a 3.7-liter V6, and 700 pounds more than the Ram 1500 with its 3.6-liter V6. Buyers can expect to see the 2014 GMC Sierra with the 4.3-liter engine start at $25,085 including destination.
While the engine does deliver more torque than either of its main competitors, it falls short on the horsepower front. The 3.7-liter V6 in the F-150 develops 302 hp while the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500 yields 305 hp. GM says fuel economy estimates for its newest entry will land later this year. Check out the full press release below for more information.
2015 Chevy Canyon, GMC Colorado to net up to 27 mpg with 4-cylinder
Mon, 22 Sep 2014Before even officially going on sale to customers, the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup twins are already proving to be a success with dealer orders exceeding original projections. Now, there is even more good news for these siblings, with the fuel economy for their four-cylinder engines netting class-leading numbers and the 3.6-liter V6 getting segment-best payload ratings.
The 2.5-liter four-cylinder in the two trucks makes 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, and in rear-wheel drive and six-speed manual trim it has an EPA rating of 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. Opting for a two-wheel drive configuration with the six-speed automatic bumps those figures slightly to 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. Finally, a four-wheel drive model with the automatic 'box carries a 19/25/21 rating. Those numbers are a tick better here and there compared to what's offered by the optional V6.
The twins' major four-cylinder, midsize pickup rivals are the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier, but they're both getting somewhat long in the tooth. To compare fuel economy and power, a two-wheel drive Tacoma with its 2.7-liter four-cylinder is rated at 159 hp and 180 lb-ft, and achieves 21/25/22 mpg. The Frontier with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder is good for 152 hp and 171 lb-ft, and carries 19/23/21 mpg figures.
GMC Hummer EV will weigh 9,046 pounds
Tue, May 18 2021In the 2000s, Hummer's unique breed of off-roaders summoned a dark cloud of disapproval from environmentalists because they were gas-guzzling SUVs with mammoth dimensions. GMC's born-again Hummer EV will escape the gas guzzler label by running solely on electricity, but it will be even bigger and much heavier than its predecessors. Enthusiast site GM-Trucks reported the Hummer EV will tip the scale at 9,046 pounds (4,103 kilos if you're outside of the United States) in its quickest configuration, and a GMC spokesperson told Autoblog that figure is accurate. For context, the H1 Alpha released for 2006 (and often considered the ultimate Hummer) weighed 8,113 pounds, the H2 checked in at 6,614 pounds with the 6.2-liter V8, and the H3 was comparatively light at 4,600 pounds. When it lands, the Hummer EV will be one of the heaviest new cars sold in the United States. Part of its plumpness can be attributed to its colossal dimensions; it measures 216.8 inches long, 86.7 inches wide, and 81.1 inches tall. In comparison, the H1 stretched 185 inches long, 87 inches wide, and about 78 inches tall. The electric powertrain also played a major role in slinging the Hummer's weight into dually pickup territory. Batteries are heavy, and the Hummer EV's Ultium pack reportedly has a capacity of over 200 kilowatt hours. It has three electric motors, too. Note the 9,046-pound figure applies only to the sold-out Launch Edition model, which will offer 1,000 horsepower, the aforementioned 200-kilowatt battery, and the supercar-like ability to hit 60 mph from a stop in three seconds. GMC will launch cheaper, slower, and presumably considerably lighter variants of the truck in the early 2020s. Although SUVs are often heavier than comparable trucks due to the additional sheet metal, the people-hauling Hummer should weigh less than the cargo-carrying variant. As we reported in April 2021, its output will be limited to 830 horsepower because it's 20 inches shorter than the truck, and the bigger battery pack doesn't fit in this footprint.
