For sale: Clean, unmolested 86 Jimmy 4x4 from the dry high desert. It's a very decent survivor truck that doesn't need much to be really nice. If you're looking for a good vintage 4x4 and tired of looking at overpriced rust buckets, this may be your rig. I'll do my best to describe it below: Exterior: Paint appears to be all original paint except the hood. Typical small chips and scratches from use. At some point the hood was repainted, and while the color matches well and looks great from 10 feet, it was an inexpensive job and the hood is grainy up close. Hood would need to be repainted to be really squared away. Truck is virtually rust free, no cancer or rot with only minor surface rust that I'll describe . There is no salt used on the roads in this area of the high desert, and here in the land of sagebrush and prickly pear cactus we only get 10 inches total moisture per year. We just don't see serious rust issues here. There is a small blister on each side near the bottom of the door about the size of a quarter(shown, I zoomed way in on those), a couple very small discolorations above rear bumper on each side(wouldn't show up in pics), and the metal tab inside the front fenderwell that holds moisture shows scale (shown). There were some small holes drilled at bottom of sill for running boards- very minor discoloration around those. Underside is amazingly dry, clean and mint. Windshield is new, top looks good but is faded. Back window has the usual scratches. No pitting whatsoever on chrome or stainless. Just a nice looking driver rig that gets compliments everywhere I go - you just don't see many of these that haven't been hacked on or abused. Interior: All original and good driver quality with no issues. Seats are nice, carpet decent, door and rear panels nice. Dash has a few cracks under the dashmat. Very nice and presentable. Brand new stereo/CD player with remote using factory speakers. No rodents, or smells. With captains chair buckets and tilt wheel, very comfortable rig. I have a low mile original 72 K5 Blazer, and this rig is SOOO much more comfortable. Original spare in place has never been on the ground, and the factory jack and handle are in place. One A/C vent is missing vanes but a brand new one from LMC is included. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out great. Original anemic 305 was replaced by previous owner with earlier 4 bolt 350 with Performer manifold and carb for more power and fuel economy. Pulls hard and smooth. 700R4 overdrive works well. I drove this back and forth to work for a month and didn't find any major issues. Minor issues are the fast idle is a bit high, the A/C belt isn't on although compressor turns freely. Engine was used, not rebuilt, and I don't know how many miles are on it, but I don't see any glaring problems - no major leaks, smoke or noise. There are receipts for about $2k in work to swap motor and put all new exhaust on. Sounds great with turbo mufflers and big pipes but not obnoxious - just healthy. Tires are 31x10.50 and are in good condition. 4 wheel drive works fine. Steering is tight and quiet. Battery is newer and the truck starts every time no matter how cold. Heater works fine. Back window rolls up/down with both the inside switch and the outside key but sometimes it stops, and you have to hit the switch again to get it going. If it's cold out might need to do it a few times. Only issues I can see are as follows: A couple gauges don't work properly -choke light stays on, ammeter doesn't show charge, but it charges fine(typical). Fuel gauge fluctuates - not a big deal around town, but might cause you some stress on a road trip. Oil pressure gauge fluctuates, drops then snaps back up to top of gauge - might be sending unit. Overall very capable rig to use as is or take to the next level and make it whatever you want it to be! Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this car and you will too. I see this era Blazer and Jimmy bringing stupid money when they are clean, especially from rust belt bidders. I guess it must cost much more to fix cancer and rot than to pay a few hundred bucks to ship a dry rig from the high desert. This truck needs a few things, it's not perfect, and it's priced accordingly. I'd say it's a lot like the used trucks that could be found on any car lot in the late 90's..decent survivor used vehicle. It seems that today, though, most of these for sale are either thrashed to death, or priced in the stratosphere. Reserve price is well under $5k for quick sale. Title is clear and in my name. Dealers welcome to bid if they don't plan to simply double the price and relist it without proper disclosure. GOOD LUCK! The effects of Volkswagen's long-running diesel emissions evasion are starting to spill over to other automakers, but General Motors is taking things in stride. The 2.8-liter, four-cylinder Duramax in the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon is the first engine to get extra scrutiny by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, Automotive News reports. Rather than just the usual in-lab test, it's also being checked on the road. However, the extra evaluation shouldn't have any impact on when the trucks with his mill hit dealers later this fall. "We're in our final stages of the EPA certification, and our launch is on track," Chevy spokesperson Otie McKinley tells Autoblog. The four-cylinder diesel in the trucks makes 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the automaker is touting low NOx production. In the announcement for the Colorado's specs, the company calls it "the cleanest diesel truck engine ever produced by General Motors." The tech includes exhaust gas recirculation to lower combustion temperatures and improve emissions. There's also a urea tank like on the bigger diesels for full-size trucks, and it gets refilled in time with oil changes. An indication on the instrument panel lets drivers know when that's needed, too. Even with the more demanding testing, the company doesn't seem too worried about the four-cylinder passing. "Part of our development process is on-road and off-road [laboratory] testing," Scott Yackley, Chevy Trucks assistant chief engineer, said to Automotive News. In the wake of the VW scandal, the EPA has pledged more rigorous testing. Before, on-road emissions evaluations were largely limited to heavy-duty vehicles, but the agency has decided to apply the checks more often to other models. There's also now greater cooperation with Canadian authorities.

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.
