This 2003 GMC Envoy SUV has been my daily driver for the past 10 years. I recently paid $1000 for new tires. The transmission was replaced a few years ago with a brand new 0 millage factory GM one. The interior and exterior are in great shape considering its age and the AC blows cold. Last month my instrument cluster failed on me and I was unable to monitor the water temperature. I overheated the factory engine (lasted me to 270K miles).

Since the car has new tires, new transmission, all power features work, ac works, drives smooth, etc. I decided to purchased a used (41K mile) engine. In the process of installing it I must have missed a plug or done something wrong (sensor, maf, etc) because I can not get the car to idle smooth. It cranks but does not idle ...as if it is not getting enough fuel.

Here is a timeline of events:
022,000 - purchased in 2004 (2nd owner)
              - meticulously maintained, 3k oil changes, etc.
202,000 - original transmission failed; A factory new transmission was installed
              - meticulously maintained, 3k oil changes, etc.
269,000 - new tires $1000 spent
271,500 - cluster did not show engine water temp. I ran it hot and engine overheated.
      - purchased and installed a used cluster (shows 173K miles)
      - purchased and installed a used 41K engine installed; I can not get the car to start and idle. It will crank and idle rough when gas pedal is all the way down.

09/01/2014 - I gave up and bought a Lexus hybrid.
09/05/2014 - I took pictures of the GMC
09/08/2014 - I listed the car on CL, eBay, cars.com for $2K or best offer.

(in summary the body has ~272K, the cluster works and shows 173K, the transmission has 70K of use, the engine has 42K but won't idle, the tires have 3K of use)

I gave up on the vehicle because of time constraints and just purchased a hybrid Lexus to use as my daily driver. I am not a mechanic and I feel like I am in over my head. Anyone is welcome to come diagnose the car on site, and I have done my best to describe its condition to the best of my ability. I am selling the car as is for more questions or help feel free to call or email or text. 770 527 9656

mechanics special, great project car for someone that knows how to work on GM's. I would prefer a local buyer but am not opposed to shipping it at the buyers expense.

GMC teases Hummer EV's removable roof panels

Wed, May 20 2020

Today was supposed to be the day that GM took the wraps off its GMC Hummer EV. We were told as much during the Super Bowl commercial, but GM revised it to an undecided future date, citing the coronavirus as the reason. Instead of the big reveal, we have a teaser.  The Hummer EV is going to feature removable roof panels, and now we get a better look at them. There are four roof panels and a front T-bar that come out of the truck. You can see what that looks like in the video at the top of this post. Comparisons to Jeep are obvious as the open-air experience is likely similar to the Gladiator and Wrangler with their hardtop roof panels removed. That zero-limits slogan makes a bit of sense from this respect. With the sheer number of roof panels, we suspect a single person will be able to remove them alone. In addition to the video of the roof, we get a small peek at the massive digital screens the Hummer will be sporting. Check them out at the bottom of the photo below. They appear to be two large slabs, separate from each other. Other details are scarce on the ground. We’re not sure when the Hummer will make its grand entrance at this point, but are still excited to see the 1,000-horsepower truck hit the road. GMC is still advertising the 0-60 mph time of just 3 seconds, too. The latest tidbit of news suggests that further teasers might be coming, so we could be in for a rather drawn out reveal process. Our senior green editor John Snyder got to see the GMC Hummer in person earlier this year at GMÂ’s EV Day and described it like this: “ItÂ’s a big, off-road-ready pickup complete with giant all-terrain rubber and tow hooks. It features removable roof panels for access to the open sky, which appears to be depicted in the teaser above. It features sail panels behind the C-pillars, similar to those on the Chevy Avalanche and Honda Ridgeline. Its bed was concealed with a tonneau cover, but it sported GMCÂ’s MultiPro tailgate that we first saw on the Sierra Denali. Interior photos showed a spacious interior with blocky shapes, squared hourglass vents that mirror the look of the taillights and a lunar theme that incorporates the topography of the Sea of Tranquility into things like the floor mats and speaker covers. It also has a large infotainment screen as well as a digital instrument panel.” Related video:

GM recalls Colorado, Canyon, and Malibu for airbag problem

Wed, Mar 9 2016

The Basics: General Motors will recall and issue a stop sale on 1,740 total examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, Malibu, and GMC Canyon. This includes 1,579 units in the US and 161 in Canada. The Problem: The second stage of the driver front airbag inflator might not be present. If this happens, the airbag won't fill as quickly as it should in a high-speed crash, which could increase the risk of injury, according to Reuters. This is not related in any way to Takata's inflator problems, and these parts come from a different supplier. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: GM will replace the vehicles' airbag assemblies. If You Own One: GM spokesperson Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog he wasn't specifically sure when recall repairs would begin but said it would be "shortly." He expects the fixes to happen "quickly" because of the small number of affected vehicles, and many of them are either in transport or already in dealer stock. More Information: GM recalled the 2015 Canyon and Colorado in 2014 for a completely separate airbag issue. In that case, a manufacturing error improperly wired the connectors. Related Video: GM Statement GM is recalling 1,579 MY 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Malibu vehicles in the United States and 161 in Canada to replace driver-side front airbags. The second stage of the airbag may not deploy properly in certain high-speed crashes. During a routine quality inspection, it was determined that a component required for a second-stage/high-output deployment was not loaded during the inflator build. Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag assembly. There have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue. This issue is unrelated to the ongoing Takata recalls.

GM dealers have ordered 30k Colorado and Canyon pickups, 3rd shift added

Wed, 17 Sep 2014

General Motors has an early success on its hands in the form of the initial rollout of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks. According to the automaker, dealers have ordered nearly 30,000 of the trucks thus far, a number that far exceeded GM's early expectations.
This high demand for the Colorado and Canyon twins has prompted GM to add a third shift to its Wentzville Assembly plant where the trucks are built, starting early next year. An extra shift will add an additional 750 jobs at the location to the 1,315 that were already employed there, according to the press release that you're welcome to read down below.
Such positive sales projections for the Canyon and Colorado may portend good things for the midsize pickup segment, which was once hugely popular but has more recently contracted, with the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma standing firm as the market leaders. Now that GM's entries are the most up-to-date, and with the segment's first diesel engine on the way, it will be interesting to see how the trucks continue to sell and if their hopeful success leads more automakers back onto the playing field.
