seen a GMC XUV? It really does transform from a completely normal SUV to a
functional pick-up truck! Now you don’t have to borrow anymore! INTERIOR:
The original/only owner had this since it was new, how would you of treated it?
This vehicle shows like it has barely been used. The seats are in great shape,
like no one sat in them. There are no offensive odors. The radio works, the
heat works great and the A/C was hard to tell considering it is winter still,
but no bad indications. The seats are fully functional and are simple to
operate. The rear looks great considering what it’s used for. It looks like
this was never even used as a truck! Don’t worry about clean up, the panels are
tough, you can just sweep any mess right out the back. Behind the rear seats is
the mid-gate, it folds down providing more cargo space. The middle window sounds
like its off track, when you hit the button, you can hear it quietly, but
nothing goes up. This could be a simple labor charge or a cheap actuator worst
case. We just use it like a normal SUV. With the tailgate up and sealed there
is about 76” of room. With the tailgate down there is over 90” of room. That is
almost 8’ of room in an SUV! There is 4’ from side to side. When the top is
slid back, you got even more room. Now you can haul things like appliances, furniture,
lawn mower etc. EXTERIOR:
The body is rust free, and the clear coat looks great. I didn’t see any dents
or dings, or major scratches. The tires look to be all new. The tailgate is
actually really neat, it drops down like a normal pick-up, and it swings out so
you can easily load and unload. I wonder how they did that. MOTOR/HANDLING:
One owner vehicles are usually maintained very well. It starts right up even in
the coldest weather; there is no smoke or smells. We haven’t had the vehicle
long but I have not seen any leaks from it. It has been driven for a few hours
and there were no complaints. The All-Wheel Drive engages and disengages just
fine with no worries, so it’s there when you need it. It’s nice to have the 2
wheel option so you can save on gas because you don’t need 4 wheel drive all
the time. The SUV accelerates just fine, and the brakes feel normal. The
suspension is nice and quiet, feels like it’s built to take a load! This truck
is so solid, it feels like a tank, not because of its size or weight, just the
function of it I guess. This is the most universal vehicle I have seen. I never knew they existed, so we had to have it!! It is very unique not just by its capabilities to do a hundred things, but its toughness, and 2 or 4 wheel options. If you are stuck, or towing, just turn the dial and carry on! Forget about Jeep! GM uses wind power to build SUVs, trucks
Tue, Oct 9 2018This week started with a chill, as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a dire report with scientists warning, "The world we know today is not the world we will see in 50 years," with temperatures rising at their current rates. In the meantime, the trend toward purchasing more SUVs and crossovers continues. Most automakers, though, have set goals toward more sustainable production. That includes General Motors, which, somewhat ironically, plans to use wind power to produce many of its vehicles, including pickups and full-size SUVs. As the Detroit Free Press reports, several wind farms are coming online to support cleaner production as part of a partnership between GM and energy producer CMS Enterprises. At the beginning of October, the 100-megawatt Northwest Ohio Wind Farm began producing energy, supplying GM operations in Ohio and Indiana, where manufactured vehicles include the Chevy Cruze, Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. Hilltopper Wind Farm in Illinois will begin producing another 100 megawatts for GM manufacturing in the region. In Texas, where GM builds the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade, the automaker is getting 50 megawatts from Cactus Flats Wind Farm beginning October 9. Using wind power isn't just about being green, but also for the sake of price stability. As Rob Threlkeld, GM's global manager of renewable energy told the Free Press, "You don't get the price spikes this way, like you do with fuel, and it reduces the environment footprint of the vehicle you're driving." Threlkeld said that renewable energy has already meant "millions of dollars in savings" for GM. GM plans to power all of its global operations with renewable energy by 2050. This week, the automaker was ranked 76 on the EPA's "National Top 100 List" of green manufacturers. It was the only automotive company listed. GM tells NHTSA pickup truck electronic glitch is 'inconsequential'

General Motors has been enduring some serious problems with recalls recently, and it is hoping to avoid launching another major safety campaign. 200,921 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups are under the microscope due to a rare problem with their instruments, an issue GM calls calls "inconsequential to motor vehicle safety." The Detroit-based automaker believes that the glitch is so minor that it has filed a petition with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asking the government safety watchdog for permission to pass on recalling the vehicles.
The fault at issue can occasionally cause the instrument cluster to reset when drivers use the steering wheel controls to browse songs from an external media device connected to the truck's USB ports. If a song's title information exceeds 2,000 bytes, according to The Detroit News, then the instrument panel can reset, which in turn causes the gauges, shift position indicator and cruise control telltale to turn off briefly. When rebooting, other instrument panel lights may briefly illuminate without their functions actually being activated. GM claims that if this does happen, the instrument display lights go out for about 1.5 seconds and the bulb check lasts a further five seconds. However, this snafu has no actual affect on the truck's operation. The glitch is present in trucks built between January 29, 2013, and October 28, 2013.
2016 GMC Canyon Diesel Quick Spin [w/video]
Mon, Oct 12 2015The 2016 GMC Canyon Diesel and the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel are basically the same truck. This isn't really news – the two midsize pickups have been discussed side by side since their inception. If you stop reading right now, go to our First Drive story from last week, and replace "Colorado" with "Canyon," you won't miss a beat. Samesies. Looks-wise, the Canyon is a bit more polished overall than the Colorado on which its based. The front fascia has a more upscale, yet tough aura, the squared-off headlamps mimic those of the Sierra, and the alloy wheels – especially those on this SLT tester – are a premium touch. Inside the cabin, it's all carryover stuff from the Chevy truck, just with different badges and some unique color/trim combos. So it's a Colorado Diesel with a Canyon treatment. It's the typical GMC updo. But that's fine by me; this thing's a real sweetheart. Driving Notes Talk about smooth operator. This is one of the least harsh diesel engines I've ever tested, with low levels of vibration. Credit for that goes to the fancy German torque converter, as our own David Gluckman detailed in the Colorado First Drive. There's there's also very little in the way of turbo lag in this truck, aiding the silky character. I kind of miss the "turbo moment" woosh of power, but I'll happily trade that for total overall refinement. GMC hasn't released official fuel economy figures just yet, and my drive route wasn't exactly great for testing the ol' miles per gallon rating. I spent about 45 minutes slogging through traffic in Manhattan (perfect place for a diesel pickup, right?), before getting out onto the highway for another 45 or so. The combined trip returned numbers in the mid-20s, but I have to believe this truck can do better. The steering is vague, the body rolls – it drives like a pickup. That said, even though it's on the larger side of midsize, the Canyon is easy to maneuver, sight lines are great, and it's a generally pleasant-handling truck. The 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine adds about 200 pounds to the Canyon's overall curb weight, but you don't notice from behind the wheel. Braking feel is smooth and solid, and the truck doesn't feel especially nose-heavy. Despite the anti-aero shape, the Canyon delivers a quiet ride with very little wind or road noise. Credit this to all the sound deadening material added to keep unpleasant diesel chugga-chugga-chugga noises out of the cabin.
