1975 Ford Gran Torino Starsky & Hutch tribute!!

Here is a very nice Starsky& Hutch Gran Torino. The paint and body is beautiful and the car runs and drives well. As a matter of fact, I took it to the Howard County Grand Prix Car Show last week and it won a trophy. She has a 351w and automatic transmission with a 9-inch rear. The paint color and graphics layout are very authentic looking and it turns heads wherever I go with it. It's a great cruise night car and a great addition to anyone's collection.

The car has a nice looking interior with no cuts or tears in the seat or dash pad, the headliner does have a hole that is hidden by the passenger visor. The car has Air Conditioning and it still works and blows cold. She has front disc brakes and the factory dual remote mirror option. She also has the in-dash clock option; the clock is not working.  I believe the drivetrain to be original and note that the odometer says 17k.   Title history shows that the car has 47k on it.  Previous title has it listed as beyond mechanical limits, etc. She has a Kenwood AM/FM CD stereo that works well.

The 351w has a 4-barrel carb and intake added, but otherwise is stock -- and has dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. It has a nice rumble sitting at idle. She cruises well and sips fuel -- if you keep your foot out of it. Of course, this heavy old girl with this engine won't make anyone stand up at the drag strip, but she's great for cruisin'. Lights and signals work fine. The car is ready to bump the key and drive away. The old girl has a slight lifter tap (or an exhaust leak) when cold - hard to tell which since I am hard of hearing. The only rust I have noted on the car is the rear passenger floor - which the previous owner has already layed in new metal. It's a great project car for a modest tinkerer. I have taken care of a few things while I have it - like the battery hold down, the upper rad hose was installed backwards, new plugs, new dome light lens and fixed light socket. I also replaced the horn. She's not perfect, but she is very respectable and draws attention everywhere she goes. "Can I take my picture with it" is probably the most common question I get when I am out driving it around.  Gauges work, including fuel and temp - and the previous owner installed a security kill switch.  I will show you where it is when you take ownership of the car if you'd like to use it to enhance your protection.

One other thing -- you'll note that the Gran Torino is very rare. Many S&H clones are erroneously made from Torinos -- this has the correct trim at the back, correct taillights and rocker moldings, etc that the regular Torino did not. I am a classic muscle collector myself and the only reason I am selling this one is that I have (2). I took this one as part of a deal from a dealer in Ohio.   The car is here in my garage in Baltimore and the title is clear and in my name.

You are welcome to make an appointment with me and review the car in person before the auction ends.

A few questions have already been asked - and since response contact info was included, I can't post them here...

- Yes, you can (if you must) pay for the entire car via PayPal.  You will need to add 2.9% to the total due to cover the fee that I will be charged.

- Yes, I can haul the car for you myself if you are in the Eastern US.  I will charge $1.70 per loaded mile.  If you are local to Baltimore, it's free.

- Yes, I will work with a shipper and get the car loaded, etc.  No problem.

- Another reply with contact info - so I can't post directly.  Yes, I would feel comfortable driving the car home over a substantial distance.  Two weeks ago, I just drove it through several counties and ran a full tank of gas without issue.  She is a pleasure to drive.  The only performance concern I have is that the 4v carb that was added is probably too big for the 351W without upgrading the cam/lifters.  The carb can supply the fuel, but the engine still only wants the same amount it always took since it's stock/un-modified.

- The car is also for sale locally and therefore I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car sells locally.  If the reserve is met first, I will let the auction run it's course.

Ex-GM VP LaNeve takes over Lincoln ad agency

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Those of you that caught yesterday's op-ed about Lincoln will have heard already, but Mark LaNeve has taken the helm at Team Detroit. Once the North American vice president of sales, service and marketing for General Motors, LaNeve will now head up the agency that handles all of Ford advertising. LaNeve will also run the account for Lincoln. While at GM from 2001 to 2009, the exec oversaw ad campaigns like Cadillac's Breakthrough and sales initiatives like "Employee Pricing for Everyone."
He left in 2009 to join Allstate as chief marketing officer, oversaw the creation of the Mayhem ad spots and was moved into the role of VP of agency operations overseeing Allstate's 10,000 agents. He resigned from the insurer in February 2012 for personal reasons and joined Team Detroit in August 2012 as chief operating officer, in charge of satellite offices in New York and internationally. He replaces ex-CEO Cameron McNaughton, and will continue to hold the title of COO.
Lincoln is trying to get its 2013 back to rights after putting big dollar commercials for the 2013 MKZ on television then having production glitches preventing cars from getting to dealerships. With rumors of a relaunch in the works, it's no surprise LaNeve has been given the reins - and from here it looks like the brand is desperate for the kind of magic he's proved he can marshal. Perhaps he can start by calling a mulligan on the renaming exercise that gave us the hoary "Lincoln Motor Company" and go back to oh, say, "Lincoln." Then he can ask the product folks to get to work on the MKC concept...

Ford, GM still doing new business with Takata amidst airbag crisis

Thu, Nov 20 2014

Lengthy vehicle development times make it difficult for automakers to cut and run from the supplier. You might expect automakers to be fleeing any connection with beleaguered supplier Takata in the wake of the company's exploding airbag inflator crisis. After all, with a Senate hearing, pending lawsuit, plummeting stock value and demand for a national recall, the tier-one supplier isn't at its strongest right now. However, years of cooperation mean that automakers are standing by Takata, and necessity may be playing a role, as well. About 39 percent of Takata's business comes from airbags, and seatbelts make up another significant chunk of the operation too, says Bloomberg. The long-term relationships and lengthy vehicle development times make it difficult for automakers to cut and run from the supplier. "Takata has so much product breadth that I don't really see that they could just disappear," said AutoPacific analyst Dave Sullivan to Bloomberg. For example, Takata helped develop the unique front center airbag with General Motors in models like the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Outside of safety tech, it is also a partner with Ford on the adaptive steering system available on the upcoming 2015 Edge. These long-lasting partnerships make change difficult now that there's a problem. According to Reuters, automakers claim it would take a year or longer to set up with a different supplier for replacement airbag inflators. Switching to a completely different part for the repairs might not be a viable option either, because of the engineering time needed. BMW is taking action, though. According to Reuters, the Bavarian brand is working with the supplier to move inflator production from Monclova, Mexico, to a Takata factory in Freiburg, Germany. The Mexican plant may be the source of some of the faulty parts. News Source: Bloomberg, ReutersImage Credit: Jens Meyer / AP Photo BMW Ford GM Safety Takata airbag recall
