This is a 4 month old restoration of a rust free very nice 87K original mile 1974 Gran Torino.  I am a sucker for anything from my childhood and bought a very straight rust free never been hit car to start. I did my research and between paint, wheels and interior managed to make a very accurate clone of the Starsky and Hutch cars I grew up with. The reserve is set at much less than I have into the car. The motor was totally gone threw, and tuned with an aftermarket Edelbrock Carb, The car was stripped and painted with an expensive two stage paint and color sanded. Not to mention to different stages of taping and painting to achieve the perfect stripes. Then the car received a new headliner, carpet and seat padding and upholstery. The car sounds and drives amazingly. The stereo is not original, but a detachable face cd player am/fm.  The steering wheel has two cracks in the black plastic.  And the gas gauge works speratically. The bumpers could use rechroming. Other than that the car is great. The glass is perfect. The chassis is rust free and straight.  The trunk is rust free and has never been replaced. There are no problems in the paint of any kind.  ZERO scratches, chips, dings.  The tires and rims have about 150 miles on them tops!  I spared no expense to recreate the car I wanted. The more you research these cars the more you'll see how exacting this car is. I think if you found 10 of these cars you wouldn't find one as good. The grill isn't all broken up.  The trim around the wheel well is there and straight. The car runs great and can be driven with one finger. I've taken some friends out to Hollywood and around LA a couple times having a great time.  I also have picked my kids up from school and the friends loved it. Honestly though, the people that love it the most are the 35-55 year old men that grew up with the show. Anyway, I've had my fun restoring and driving it, and like guitars and watches, my ADHD kicks in and I get bored.  There are always other cars I want to experience and I thought I would start selling the car now. I am ready to take a loss, but not give the car away.  Last Summer equivalent cars were selling on ebay for $20-25K. This is a FRESH restoration from California. Home of the original TV and movie cars. The car is housed at the Torrance Airport generally but can be brought home to Palos Verdes Estates for viewing with one days notice. Call 3102595195 to schedule. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time, as I have friends that are interested in buying or trading. Thanks for looking and bidding.

Thanks for keeping us on our toes, Detroit Auto Show [w/poll]

Wed, Jan 14 2015

Here at Autoblog, we love unexpected debuts at auto shows – and judging by our Detroit Auto Show comments and traffic, you do, too. Surprise reveals have been fewer and farther between in recent years with so many ways for vehicles to be teased or leak out, but this week's show has been a revelation. More to the point, it's been a series of revelations, with automakers from around the globe successfully delivering a brace of concept and production surprises. It's made our jobs a lot more exciting and challenging this week, and even though it's actually more work to react and run-and-gun when the sheet is pulled on a surprise reveal than it is to publish an already-written embargoed story, we've had more fun covering this show for you than any domestic show in memory. We hope you've enjoyed the surprises along with us. To that end, borrowing the words of an unnamed automaker PR flack, we'd like to thank the following automakers for enduring "mountain of antacids" and that "creeping sense of paranoia" necessary to keeping ones' wares totally under wraps until the sheets are pulled off the sheetmetal: Buick Avenir concept Chevrolet Bolt concept Ford GT concept Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Hyundai HCD-15 Santa Cruz concept And while we're at it, we'd like to throw in an shout-out to Detroit's substantially revised and revitalized Cobo Center, and in particular, the redone Michelin media center, which is arguably the single best accommodations for writing show stories that we've encountered on the entire international circuit. Well done, everyone. Thank you, and keep the surprises coming. Auto News Detroit Auto Show Buick Chevrolet Ford Hyundai Volvo 2015 Detroit Auto Show

Reflecting on the Ford GT on its 10-year anniversary

Thu, 10 Apr 2014

Ten years ago, during the bright-eyed enthusiasm of the early 2000s and before the collective automotive industry did its best Titanic impression, we had the Ford GT. An everyman's supercar like there'd never been (remember, this was before 638-horsepower Corvettes were a thing), the GT arrived with a supercharged, 5.4-liter V8 that produced 550 horsepower and graced this retro-styled rocket with an easy, sub-four-second sprint to 60 miles per hour.
Equal to the GT's performance were its looks. Inspired by the GT40 racers that dominated Le Mans and bested Ferrari in the 1960s, the sleek, low, almost-reptilian look of the GT was the absolute pinnacle of the retro styling that so defined the early 2000s.
Crank and Piston put together a video celebrating the ten-year-old GT, arguing that Ford is a bit too busy with the next-gen Mustang, which turns 50 next week, to do it themselves. In the short clip, there is gratuitous engine noise and supercharger whine, not to mention scenes of the white-on-red GT prowling the deserts and streets of Dubai. It's a bit short, but very nicely shot. Scroll down, have a look and be sure to turn up those speakers before getting started.

Google's new Android Autos OS unveiled, will be in cars this year [w/video]

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Connected cars are coming en-masse. We know this much. How, though, remains something of an open question, especially as two of the world's largest tech companies are preparing to battle for control of your car's dashboard. On the one hand, we have Apple and its CarPlay system. And now, we know what Google has been working on with Auto Link.
Its new name is Android Auto, and yes, it's based off the Android architecture that is the primary challenger to Apple's iOS mobile operating system. Announced at Google's I/O conference today, Android Auto functions similarly to CarPlay - owners will need to plug their smartphones into their cars to access the full breadth of capability.
In Android Auto's case, that means a wealth of voice controls to limit distracted driving. Google's marquee apps will be available when the interface arrives in production models later this year, including Google Play Music, Google Maps and voice-activated texting and text playback. Meanwhile, developers will be able to begin designing custom apps for the new system via an upcoming software development kit.
