SELLER REMARKS |

In 1958, Ford doubled the number of seats and double the number of sales with their all-new Thunderbird. For 1959, the year this handsome Colonial White T-bird was built, sales were even stronger, and it's quite likely that without this trailblazing car, the Thunderbird would not have survived. With 2-seat 'Bird prices stagnating, the 4-seaters are seeing some nice gains, suggesting that what worked then is working just as well today.
Known as the "square Birds" due to their angular styling, these are extremely handsome cars. This one has been nicely restored, showing great attention to detail and a lot of effort spent on getting everything straight. Despite the nickname, the cars actually have a lot of intricate shapes that were surely a challenge to stamp properly when they were new and doubly challenging to restore properly. Note the peaked tailfins, the pointed side trim, and the graceful body line stretching from the headlights down through the door. Ford's obsession with the jet age continued, and this Thunderbird features four round taillights that give the 'Bird a very distinctive look. Code F Colonial White is this car's original color, and the modern finish accurately captures the creamy white hue that's a little softer than your basic refrigerator color. All the chrome is beautifully restored, including the massive front grille/bumper assembly which probably cost thousands all by itself. This is one of those cars that will show you something new every time you look at it.
Inside, the lovely black and white bucket seat interior offers a full-sized back seat, so you aren't limited to just two occupants. The seats feature correct patterns and materials, along with a center console that houses the radio speaker and climate controls, including factory A/C. Matching door panels seem to echo the sweeping body line on the outside sheetmetal, along with an interesting embossed design along the bottom edges. Black carpets show minimal signs of wear, and the dash continued Ford's cockpit theme. A complete array of gauges is housed in a brightly polished panel and dig how the numbers on the speedometer flip between 120 and 130, as if you'll need to assess your speed at a glance. This one also includes an updated radio for cruising and seat belts for safety. Perhaps most importantly, the insanely complex power top is fully functional and remains in excellent condition and the trunk is outfitted with correct mats throughout.
This car received Ford's H-code 352 cubic inch V8, which was rated at a nice, round 300 horsepower, a significant jump over the 2-seater 'Birds. The neatly finished engine bay has a very industrial look to it, but I suspect the effect is intentional, with a background of satin black framing a minimalist Ford Blue engine. The original air cleaner is still fitted, as are the original valve covers, which are simple stampings that suit the engine just fine. It starts quickly and easily with a pleasant muted rumble from the dual exhaust and the Ford-O-Matic transmission clicks through the gears with authority. 3.10 gears in the 9-inch rear make this an effortless highway cruiser and it's quite tidy underneath. Standard steel wheels wear full wheelcovers with spinners, as well as a set of 215/75/14 whitewall radials.
The market seems to have rediscovered the 4-seater Thunderbird, and there are few better ways to travel than Ford's upscale personal luxury car. Call today!

Starting today, a select group of Uber users in Pittsburgh, PA will have the ability to request a self-driving vehicle. If a self-driving vehicle is in the area, Uber will send it, as well as a safety driver, to drive loyal customers to their destination. The announcement to give customers the opportunity to get a ride in one of Uber's self-driving vehicles comes roughly a year and a half after the company set up its Advanced Technologies Center in the city. On Tuesday, the company offered a few members of the press the opportunity to ride in one of the company's self-driving cars. The fleet, despite Uber's collaboration with Volvo, was comprised of 14 Ford Fusions equipped with a host of self-driving technology, reports TechCrunch. Uber is giving away free rides as a way to obtain real-world testing, which is crucial for self-driving technology. Recently, nuTonomoy beat Uber to the punch by launching the world's first autonomous taxis in Singapore. While the choice to release its self-driving cars in Pittsburgh mainly comes down to the fact that its ATC is located there, the city faces four seasons and its difficult streets that are comprised of bridges, railroad lines, and an irregular grid layout will prove to be a challenge for the autonomous cars. Since the self-driving vehicles are still being tested, the cars will come with two full-time Uber employees. One employee will loosely grasp the car's steering wheel, ready to take over if something goes awry, while the other will monitor the computer's software. As TechCrunch points out, Uber's autonomous vehicles drove in a similar manner to a regular driver. It obeyed traffic laws, mimicked a driver by coming to stops gently and at other times abruptly, as well as driving slightly into another lane to dodge a poorly-parked vehicle, reports TechCrunch. There's no word on whether regular Uber customers will get a ride in one of the company's Fusions or one of the Volvo's that its working on. Automakers and companies alike have been in a race to put autonomous vehicles on the road. Tesla recently updated its Autopilot system, Apple laid off dozens of employees to reboot its self-driving car project, and Google is working giving its autonomous vehicle the ability to detect emergency vehicles. While this is a large step for Uber, vehicles with autonomous capabilities still have a long way to go.

In 1963, real estate agent Arthur Lampitt was driving a new Ford Thunderbird near East Peoria, Illinois on his way to an appointment when he collided head-on with a truck. A massive accident that was so bad that it was originally reported as a fatal crash, Lampitt suffered a broken hip and that became the focus of doctors' efforts. In fact, no one noticed the fact that the turn-signal stalk had been broken off the steering column and had lodged itself in Lampitt's arm. Fast-forward to around ten years ago, when Lampitt set off a courthouse metal detector because of a "slender object, about the size of a pencil" in his arm. Despite that unnerving discovery, the doctor who examined Lampitt said that since it didn't hurt, he needn't worry about it. This year, however, it did start hurting and the affected arm started to bulge. Lampitt decided to have the issue seen to, and suspected it might have something to do with his 1963 accident. When he looked through photos of the wreck taken by a friend, he noticed the turn-signal stalk of the Thunderbird missing and figured that was the culprit. After a 45-minute outpatient surgery, the surgeon verified it: a slim, slightly bent and corroded, seven-inch metal cylinder with a trumpeted end. The surgeon said a protective pocket had formed around it, which is why it could remain in Lampitt's arm so long, but it was still unusual - "We see all kinds of foreign objects like nails or pellets, but usually not this large." Lampitt, who is expected to make a full recovery, says he might make a keychain out of it, once he's done just holding it. The month of March was unofficial minivan month here at Autoblog. We drove all of them but the Kia Carnival, but don’t worry, you wonÂ’t have to wait much longer to read that review. Among all the family-toting machines, we drove some more exciting vehicles including the Land Rover Defender and a pair of up-and-coming EVs. It was a month of excellent cars, meaning that this monthÂ’s litter of EditorsÂ’ Picks is stacked. In case you missed FebruaryÂ’s picks, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary or stand out in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in March that earned the honor of being an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Ford Bronco Sport 2021 Ford Bronco Sport First Edition View 32 Photos Quick take: Ford's baby Bronco is an authentic foil to the big Bronco 2-Door and 4-Door. It brings rugged styling, better-than-average off-road capability and thoughtful utility features to a generic segment of cars. Score: 8 What it competes with: Jeep Compass, Jeep Cherokee, Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek, Kia Seltos, Chevrolet Trailblazer Pros: Stellar design, excellent off-road, clever interior details throughout Cons: Pricier than most, average transmission, underwhelming interior quality and ambiance in lowest trims From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — “I genuinely enjoy driving this cute crossover. It feels like a mini truck on the road, and Ford admirably translated the design from its big Bronco over to this Escape-based crossover. News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "The Bronco Sport isn't perfect, the transmission could use some work, and it's a little bumpy, but it's a characterful little thing with loads of style, great visibility and space, and impressive capabilities on and off road in the powerful Badlands form." In-depth analysis: 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Review | Bronco for the masses  2021 Land Rover Defender 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 View 64 Photos Quick take: The Land Rover Defender provides everything you'd hope for in a modern Land Rover: superlative off-road capability, surprisingly plush on-road demeanor, abundant interior space and abundant character. The base four-cylinder is likely all you'll need and lower trim levels provide more than enough equipment.
