I have owned this car for over 20 years.  It is time for it to find a new home.

Overall, it is in very good shape.  However, it does have a few flaws.  They are:  Heater core leak - I have bypassed it since I never drive it in the winter.  There is some rust on the inside bottom edge of the driver's side door, and on the bottom of the decklid.  I have taken pictures of these areas.  When I bought the car, I had the 1/4 panel windows, and rear window tinted.  The tint started to peel on the rear window, so I removed it.  The glue residue remains.  There is a problem with the radio volume control, it jumps around when you try to adjust it.  The AC Does not work.  It is an R-12 system that has not been converted to R134a.

The car has never been wrecked.  The only parts of the car that have been re-painted are the front bumper/nose and both sides below the body side moulding.

Here is a list of what I have replaced or modified over the past few years:

Pirelli P6000 Tires - like new
The Electronic Ride control shocks and Quad Shocks have been replaced with Monroe Formula GP shocks.
All the Calipers and hardware have been replaced with Ford replacement parts.
Brake pads are Carbon Ceramic from Ford MotorSports
New Dual Exhaust w/ Standard Type Mufflers

Open Element K&N Air Filter.
I have replaced the Electronic Wastgate Control with a Manually Adjustable Valve.
Ford Accesory 10 Disc CD Changer.
JBL Amplifier
Alpine 6X9 Rear Speakers
Timing Belt
Accesory Drive Belt
Radiator Hoses
Ford MotorSport Spark Plug Wires
Zoom Clutch Disc & Pressure Plate
Clutch master Cylinder & Slave Cylinder

40+ cars that barely avoid the gas guzzler tax

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.

2015 Galpin Ford GTR1

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

Last year in Monterey, we met GTR1 for the first time. Galpin Auto Sports pulled the wraps off its Ford GT-based supercar, powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.4-liter V8 good for a whopping 1,024 horsepower and 739 pound-feet of torque. The thing was totally custom-made and reportedly took some 12,000 man hours to create. And there it sat on the Pebble Beach grass, $1,000,000-plus price tag and all.
This year, the Galpin was back, albeit with one big change. That twin-turbo engine? Gone. In its place, a 5.4-liter V8 with a 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger bolted on, delivering an astonishing 1,058 hp and 992 lb-ft of torque on 110-octane fuel. 0-60? 2.9 seconds. Top speed? Somewhere above 225 miles per hour.
"Some things to keep in mind: no stability control, no traction control," were the only warnings given by Galpin's Brandon Boeckmann before taking me on a quick spin in the supercar. And after having my eyes thrown into the back of my skull a few times, laughing hysterically and trying to regain full use of my hearing after my ear drums being bombarded by the apocalyptic roar behind me, Brandon pulled over and said it was my turn, if I was ready to take the wheel.

2015 Ford Focus

Tue, 14 Oct 2014

Sitting down at the pre-drive briefing with Ford engineers ahead of sampling the refreshed 2015 Focus, water bottles clinked as we wet our whistles before Q&A. While pouring a glass, we noticed something stamped on the bottle label: "1L." One liter. We were palming the exact displacement of the EcoBoost engine our group was about to drive. This was undoubtedly coincidence (such bottles litter every conference and dinner table in Europe) but it served to drive home just how small the total swept volume of Ford's wunderkind powerplant really is. It's tiny.
Of course, this isn't our first run-in with the little triple - we've sampled its turbocharged charms before in Ford's smaller Fiesta. At that time, we found it had plenty of poke for the subcompact, but the larger C-segment Focus carries around another 450 pounds or so and pushes a wider profile through the air. Would the three-cylinder have the stuffing to make the most of the Focus' athletic chassis, or would it be a letdown? Would it be the same as it was when we tested it in a Euro-spec Focus a couple of years ago? There was nothing left for it but to head out on the bucolic roads surrounding Versailles the day after the Paris Motor Show and find out for ourselves.
