1971 Ford Thunderbird Base Sedan 4-door 7.0l on 2040-cars
Midland, Texas, United States
Have a nice 1971 for Thunderbird for sale. Was planning on fixing it up and cruising it, but just don't have the time. Need the money to fix up my truck. Purchased it last summer at an estate sale in Nebraska. The owner was a retired mechanic that bought the car new and drove it until he couldn't drive anymore and the car was parked in the late 80's early 90's in a barn. There it sat for 20+ years. I purchased it and had it taken to a local shop where they rebuilt the carburetor and cleaned the fuel lines and tank. It started, ran, and drove from there to my parents house awaiting me to come pick it up. This was last fall. Now it cranks over, fires, but will not stay running for longer than 2 minutes. Not sure if it is a timing issue or vacuum leak. Might even be something else, but I don't have any experience with old car repair. While in Nebraska the old brake lines cracked and car will no longer hold brake fluid. It also has some rust behind the rear quarter panels, but overall the body is in good shape and solid. The interior is amazing!! It has the original 429 Thunderjet Big Block V8. The cousin to the Boss 429 and 429 Cobra Jet. Kaase Engines uses these blocks to make their Boss 429 Racing Engines. This TBird is loaded with options. Power Windows, Power Drivers Seat, Cruise Control (buttons on steering wheel), Automatic Climate Control, and many more. Most I didn't even know were available in 1971. $500 deposit and contact me to arrange pick up (payment) of car within 48 hours after auction end. Will need to have car picked up within 2 weeks of auction end. Car does not run and will need to be towed from Midland, Texas. I will release Title once the payment has posted to my account. I have clear Nebraska Title, Registration, and Insurance on the T-Bird. |

2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost loses big power on 87 octane
Mon, Jan 5 2015The 2015 Ford Mustang with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder is a pretty potent package on paper. With 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, it boasts better performance numbers than the 3.7-liter V6, but with better fuel economy as an added benefit. However, if you're in the market for one of these boosted 'Stangs, you should probably keep in mind that it really prefers to gulp premium, 93-octane fuel. It can drink 87-octane swill in a pinch, but you're going to find significantly less power underfoot when pulling away. While it's not shocking that the ponies are dialed back with a lower grade of gasoline, an alleged page from a Ford training manual obtained by Mustang 6G purports to show just how much power is lost, though. According to this document, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost makes 275 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque when running on lower octane fuel. That's a substantial reduction of about 11.3 percent compared to when the engine drinks 93 octane. Interestingly, according to Mustang 6G, that finding was a bit better than expected, because a Ford engineer reportedly said power would be down about 13 percent without altering peak torque. In speaking with Autoblog, Paul Seredynski of Ford powertrain communications, objected to part of this document. While he couldn't confirm the specific losses listed for the Mustang EcoBoost, "torque remains unchanged" with lower octane gasoline, Seredynski said. He speculated this training manual page was "possibly from before the engine was certified" and therefore showed incorrect figures. Serendynski did confirm that the automaker recommends using 93 octane, and like all modern engines, the software adapts if it's lower. "Peak power would be reduced" by using a lesser grade, he confirmed. Watch Ken Block's scary Rally America crash from inside the cockpit
Wed, 19 Feb 2014Ken Block became famous for his series of Gymkhana videos, but he's a real racer in his own right. Block has competed many rounds in the FIA World Rally Championship and also rallied in the 2013 Rally America series. He nearly won that latter title last year - if not for a massive crash in the final event of the season.
Block and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino went into the Lake Superior Performance Rally needing a win to take the championship. However, missing a clump of dirt on the side of the road and one little word in the pace notes was all it took to catapult Block's Fiesta off the road and into a tumbling accident. Block says his initial reaction was anger because the crash came out of nowhere.
For 2014, Block is joining the FIA World Rallycross Championship for at least three rounds. He'll drive a Ford Fiesta for the Hoonigan Racing Division at the Norwegian, French and Turkish events of the 12-round championship. Former Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve will also compete in the series.
Ford F-150 EcoBoost in NHTSA probe for acceleration issue
Tue, 28 May 2013According to Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching a probe into 400,000 Ford F-150 models over possible acceleration problems. According to the article, NHTSA has received 95 reports "alleging incidents of reduced engine power during hard accelerations" on 2011 to 2013 F-150 models equipped with the company's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.
Automotive News reports that Ford has issued three technical service bulletins "related to intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway cruise in humid or damp conditions," according to the government agency's documents. About one third of the 95 reports NHTSA has received cited humid or rainy conditions when these problems allegedly occurred.
These technical service bulletins have allowed dealers to address a "condition related to moisture accumulation in the charge air cooler during extended highway cruising at constant throttle in humid or damp conditions," AN reports, citing NHTSA documents. Furthermore, the TSB outlines details for "reprogramming the powertrain control module with the latest calibration and installing a new CAC and air deflector plate."
