This is a 1966 Ford Thunderbird Town Coupe. This car is a custom work that has been owned for years and driven sparingly. It has had a number of its components upgraded and repaired. And was well cared for all of its time with me. I intended to make this into a Pro Touring coupe. I cant foot the requirements of that project now so i am letting go of this for the time being and going to opt for a daily driver rather than letting this fall into disrepair. The car drives well but it is a 1966 and I treasure it. I Never tried to push the block which I haven't rebuilt, floor it, do burnouts, or carve through corners in the car. In my opinion it isn't for that, until it has been re-engineered to do that. Its just a car with a good strong drive train and a lot of potential and room for power. The engine is one of fords most famous blocks and it makes an easy three hundred horses with a regular two barrel carburetor on it. I cruise it only. I have had it garaged for around a year now, since I have seriously decided on letting it go-along with the parts for it.

It does have wear on it as I did use it. It was driven and historically registered and insured and appraised. To make it show room you'll have to repair the passenger side trunk hinge which is separated from the interior mount. You will have to reupholster the vinyl headliner which has some waving/rippling from the aging of the adhesive and condensation due to decades of temperature change. The interior trim has typical wear but is in considerably good condition as can be seen in the images. The door pads are candidates for replacement due to age and weakening of mounting hardware. And the Dash and steering wheel are typical issues The wheel has temperature cracks in it and the wheel button is separated from the wheel. I will provide wheel re-builder information. I am still trying to source information for a new wheel which I can acquire if available but will factor into the cost of the vehicle. The dash has the usual sun cracks and fade. You'll have to reapply undercoating to the undercarriage. Best to use some sound deadening bed-liner maybe a Kevlar imbued option. And the Bright work/trim is decent enough but not at all showroom here. it shows honest age. The floor boards and carpet were redone less than three years ago.Weathered engine bay parts cracked fan shroud. Rear view mirror is a used replacement. Decent non-excessive wear on the upholstery. Half dollar sized chip in passenger side rear deck at the trunk lid.. Interior cabin heat insulation is weak at firewall. No cabin air vent doors (foot well). Air conditioning compressor offline (possibly seized) 200 replacement. Those are the issues. there have been a number of other replacement parts installed to refresh it also. It beautiful and worth the investment especially for a one off cruiser steampunk or rat rod or lead sled.

Parts changed:

horn contacts and steering column harness
new power steering pump and hoses
Rear view mirror bird emblem
lower bushings and ball joints
Roof console button contacts
Sequential light relay
interior carpeting

*used radiator and window regulator swap*

Included parts:
replacement steering wheel*** if available and acquirable AT  additional COST TO BUYER
new "sticky" exhaust gaskets if they can be found
dash and rear passenger area 3 way speakers
upgraded amperage alternator
new window regulators
fm radio

Features:
custom rear suspension lowering
select color matched trim
Center grill emblem delete
molded rear valance
molded side skirts

This car is SOLD AS IS with no guarantees to any level of performance. I can only relate my own experience and knowledge of the condition and function of the car. I do not presume to pose as a ford technician or anything of the sort. I will say that although it is drivable it is still a fixer. I purchased it in this condition and meant to and did work/have work done on on it. Furthermore you will not find another Thunderbird like this one. It is a great platform to start with and you can get some use out of it now. You can buy and use it now, but it is OLD and Not Getting any NEWER UNLESS YOU MAKE IT SO. An old car lover knows you will run into problems, and any t-bird enthusiast knows you wont run into this car again. With some love and intent it'll become a jewel that will make anything else on the road pale in comparison. I am honestly at a loss for selling it. But when the time is right i will build a pro touring Thunderbird. This car also comes with a number of catalogs from parts suppliers in various areas of the nation to assist the buyer in moving his/her own vision for the car along. This Car is Listed locally as well and this auction may be terminated at any point for any cause by seller without notice or warning. NO WARRANTY IS IMPLIED OR EXPLICITLY STATED.

Please ask any questions. No Trades accepted. No Returns permitted. Buyer must Pay ALL money within 24 hours of the close of auction. The Vehicle will be released to the winner after and no time before funds from payment have cleared and are available. Shipping and transportation costs are the responsibility of the buyer, but the seller is willing to Accommodate efforts to COORDINATE an option with the buyer and a third party or the buyer themselves. If you would like to view the vehicle please give 5days notice in order to schedule the time and access to the vehicle being stored.

Thank you for the interest and we look forward to doing business with you.

Did a US automaker blow the whistle on Hyundai, Kia fuel economy issue?

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

In all of the most hotly contested mainstream segments of the motoring universe, the difference of one mile per gallon averaged on a widow sticker can mean the difference between a sale and a walk-off - to say nothing of two or three mpg. So, when Hyundai and Kia were forced to reveal that many of their 40-mpg ratings were actually 38s and 37s, well, it made for big news.
It also, conceivably, made for a competitive disadvantage immediately, when the Korean automakers' products were being shopped versus the guys down the block. And it's that disadvantage that makes a recent story from Automotive News so juicy.
AN is reporting that Margo Oge, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, got a tip in 2010 that Hyundai/Kia were "cheating" to get its impressive fuel economy numbers. The tip, said Oge (who retired from the EPA this past September), came from a senior vice president from a domestic automaker. The source was credible enough for Oge to launch an audit of the Hyundai figures, which ultimately lead to the debacle that we reported on a few months ago, and that the Korean company has been trying to bounce back from ever since.

Mulally will stay close to Ford after he steps down, plans to advise Fields [w/video]

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

Ford CEO Alan Mulally has less than a week left in his role of leading the Blue Oval before he hands off duties to Mark Fields on July 1. It doesn't look like Mulally is going to be shuffling off into his retirement anytime soon, though. The 68-year-old is being rather secretive about his next move, but he tells Bloomberg in a recent interview that he plans to stay close to Ford. Also, if Fields wants to ask for any advice, Mulally is happy to help.
Mulally took over at Ford in 2006 and led the company through a seriously rough patch in the auto industry. According to Bloomberg, he became famous or his Thursday meetings where executives were forced to deal with any problems before they could leave. Since announcing his retirement from Ford in May, Mulally has been insuring a smooth transition of power by traveling the world to all of company's major locations and saying goodbye to employees and dealers.
In terms of the future at Ford, Mulally doesn't predict any big changes in management style because the rest of the executive team is staying in place. He believes that Fields is going to maintain the processes already in place to keep things going. After all, it seems to be working. The company is predicting a return to profitability in Europe next year and is opening 88 new dealers in China. If the business could get its recalls under control, things could get even better.

How did Ford keep the GT a secret before Detroit?

Mon, Feb 2 2015

True secrecy is a rarity in the automotive industry. Sure, companies try to keep their future projects under wraps all of the time, but usually a spy shot or blurry development photo leaks out. The complete lack of any hard details before its unveiling likely helped make the Ford GT one of the biggest stars of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Not only was it the favorite of Autoblog's editors, but the supercar scored a prestigious EyesOn Design Award, too. Rumors about the vehicle had circulated for weeks before the show, but no one really knew much about the GT until it rolled onto the stage for Ford's press conference in Joe Louis Arena. Amazingly, the Blue Oval kept things mostly a secret during the car's 14- month gestation period prior to its debut. According to Automotive News, the GT project began in late 2013 by a skunk works team, including six designers, that guided the supercar along from birth until the unveiling. Ford kept things clandestine by locking the vehicle in a basement storage room, and only the group members got a key to the lock. Much of the development was also done at night to further keep the secret, but occasionally the prototype was hauled outside on weekends to check it out in natural light. Because of the speed in getting the development done and for even more stealth, the designers didn't get input from the Blue Oval's other styling teams around the world. But that was somewhat of a double-edged sword. "You don't actually get to bounce opinions off people," Ford design boss Moray Callum said to Automotive News. "We were on tenterhooks ourselves until the first people saw it." Even now, there are still mysteries surrounding the GT. There's still no official word on the supercar's power; just that it's over 600 horsepower. There are also the persistent rumors going back months that the Blue Oval plans to take the GT racing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of automaker's Le Mans victory. Although, maybe this time the secrecy wasn't so good because we might have got a glimpse of the racer, recently. Related Video:
