1966 Ford Thunderbird Landau, Q-code 428ci, Ice Cold Air, 69k Mile Tx Survivor! on 2040-cars
Scottsdale, Arizona, United States
69k Mile SURVIVOR! Here is a very nice 1966 Ford Thunderbird in great condition inside and out. This beautiful bird is an absolutely solid and very original car with what we believe to be 69,000 original miles as stated by the Arizona title. Another reason we believe this is a low mileage car is the mostly original interior condition as well as all chrome and mostly original paint aare both are in exceptionally good unmolested condition. The car is completely solid and I could not find a single spot of rust on this car. The region code on the build sheet will back up this claim since it shows DSO 61 as the original delivery region which is Dallas, TX and the car still has its Texas black plates and registration sticker on the front window. Bid now and don't miss out on your chance to own a solid, well documented Texas Thunderbird....Bid Now! The list of some of the equipment:
-345hp Q-Code 428ci V8 -Automatic 3spd Transmission -Power Steering -Power DISC Brakes -Power Windows and Vents -Power Door Locks -Sequential Turn Signals -Optional AM/FM Radio -Swing Away Steering Wheel -White Walls -Fender Skirts -Beautiful Original Hubcaps -ICE COLD Factory A/C
The exterior on the car is in great condition and is solid as a rock. The paint almost all original around the car with just a few small touch up blends and the lower front valance re-painted to touch up many years of rock chips. The Bird was just color sanded and buffed and brightened up to a nice shine and luster and gets looks good, and gets thumbs up from everybody as it goes down the road. The chrome is original and in awesome condition with no pitting or scratching and a zero dings. All glass and rubber seals are in good shape and the windshield is crack free. The car is riding on 15" period correct whitewalls with original Thunderbird caps.
The interior is in great shape all around. All gauges are in excellent condition as well as the steering wheel which is crack free. The radio works and is cosmetically in great shape. The headliner and visors are in exceptional original condition. Reproduction black rubber Thunderbird floor mats are also included. All seats are original vinyl with only the bottom cushion on drivers seat appearing to be redone. The dashboard does have two cracks and has a dash mat installed. The door panels are original and in excellent shape. All windows, switches, and gauges are working correctly. The window system was just completely overhauled with all new switches, new drivers window motor, and new window gears in all four windows. The Arizona heat is notorious for deteriorating the plastic in these components so they were all replaced for full reliability.
Mechanically, this Thunderbird runs great. The highlight of this car is what lurks under the hood. A 345hp beast in the shape of a Q code 428 Big Block. The motor provides ample power to move the car around comfortably. All correct accessories are in place and the motor has been completely detailed to original condition including use of correct Ford Blue paint and application of all correct decals and hood insulation. Many new parts were installed during the freshen up. The mechanical system as well as the suspension on this car is in perfect working condition and needs nothing.
The trunk still has all new paneling and mats and looks like new. All correct jacking tools are present as well as a good spare tire.
All in all, this is one very clean and very respectable '66 T-Bird Survivor. This car is a great example of a solid western car which has been well taken care of and is a car you can be proud to drive anywhere. These SquareBird style Thunderbirds are most desirable Birds on the market today, and with this little sweetheart you can't go wrong! 1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express in Generation Gap showdown with 1933 Ford Pickup
Fri, 18 Jul 2014Auto enthusiasts love a good debate, whether it's Mustang versus Camaro or Ferrari against Lamborghini. But how about a battle between two very different vintages of classic pickup trucks? In this case, the fight is between a 1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express and a 1933 Ford Model 46 truck with a flathead V8.
The shootout comes courtesy of the internet series Generation Gap, and its concept is super-simple. One guy prefers classics, and the other likes newer rides. They choose a category, pick two vehicles and put them head to head. In this case, neither is exactly modern, though. The Ford is more than old enough to receive Social Security checks, and the Dodge is hardly a young whippersnapper.
Other than both being pickups, these two models were made to serve very different functions. The Li'l Red Express was basically the progenitor of today's muscle trucks, with a big V8 that made it one of the quickest new models in its day (admittedly, 1979 was a rough time for automotive performance). On the other hand, the '33 Ford was just meant to work, with little pretense for anything else. One of the hosts describes it as "the simplest, most difficult" vehicle he's driven because of the tricky double clutchwork necessary to shift gears. Scroll down to watch the video and try to decide which of these two American classics you would rather have in your garage.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

Ford exec downplays idea of aluminum-intensive cars
Thu, Jan 15 2015Ford certainly made waves when it rolled out the all-new 2015 F-150 made primarily out of aluminum. But while trimming weight off its vehicles is a top priority for the Detroit automaker, we shouldn't expect the lightweight metal to be used as widely on passenger cars as it has been on its new pickup. Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress on Wednesday, top Ford exec Joe Hinrichs said that using aluminum in passenger cars isn't as beneficial as it is in trucks – primarily because the weight savings isn't as dramatic, or as deeply needed. Though improved fuel economy is certainly one advantage of aluminum construction in a truck like the F-150, low prices at the pump have prompted Ford to highlight another advantage, and that's capability: With less weight on its own, a lighter-weight truck can carry and tow more than a heavier one, because it all comes down to combined weight ratings. Ford is expected to make the new F-Series Super Duty largely out of aluminum for the same reasons, and we wouldn't be surprised to see the next Expedition use the material as well. But while certain components in Ford passenger cars will be made of aluminum, we shouldn't expect entire chassis and bodywork assemblies to use the material as extensively as on the F-150, or on more upscale passenger cars from the likes of Audi or Jaguar. Dearborn is, however, investing in other lightweight materials. It has a joint venture with Dow Chemical to put carbon fiber into mass production, much as BMW has with its i3. The Blue Oval will use a combination of carbon and aluminum on its 2017 GT supercar, and it has stripped weight by removing amenities from the 2016 Mustang GT350R, but apparently neither is a method Ford can practically apply to its volume models.
