From Hagerty.com:

"Yet another restyled body kicked off the Thunderbird’s fourth three-year run in 1964. Beauty beneath the skin included the same unitized structure introduced in 1958 and a 300-horsepower 390 V-8 backed by a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Power steering and brakes also were standard, as they had been in 1963. The sexy Sports Roadster didn’t return but a dealer-installed tonneau cover was offered in 1964 to again help- revive two-seat memories. Front disc brakes and sequential taillights became standard in 1965, and an optional 345-horse 428 cubic-inch FE-series V-8 appeared the following year. The sequential turn signals were incorporated within a new full-width taillight design in 1966, the last year for both the unit-body Thunderbird and its convertible rendition. Production was 92,465 in 1964, 74,972 in 1965, and 69,170 in 1966. Landau hardtops were offered in 1964 and 1965, a Special Landau hardtop appeared in 1965, and a Town hardtop and Town Landau debuted (both sans rear quarter glass) in 1966."

2014 Ford Fiesta ST

Tue, 15 Oct 2013

I'm not overly inclined to professional jealousy, as a rule. Sure, I go a bit green around the eyes when Ramsey draws the 911 GT3 trip to Weissach, Harley is tapped-in to drive a completely stunning Porsche 911 by Singer, or, you know, Drew Phillips gets to shoot a Lamborghini Veneno in the middle of a desert like some sort of sheik. I hate you guys...
Honestly though, one of the new car events that dug me the most, was when our Steven J. Ewing got to fling the Ford Fiesta ST around some hot corner of Europe. What goes around comes around, I suppose, as Mr. Ewing himself espoused an envious nature of the Focus ST trip that came before.
The good news in all this covetous intra-office behavior? All the cars mentioned, and specifically the Fiesta ST, are just wonderful to drive. I can say that with more confidence than ever now, having joined Ford for a good bit of Fiesta-flinging myself. In my case, the locale was slightly more pedestrian (Michigan not Portugal), and the car in question was the five-door version of the Fiesta ST that we get here in The States, as opposed to the three-door number they get across the pond.

Ford builds Lightweight Concept with Fusion shell [w/video]

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

It's a fairly well known fact that removing weight from a car is essentially a panacea for many of the modern automobiles problems. Does it handle like crap? Remove weight. Underpowered? Don't add power; trim the fat. Need to improve fuel economy? It's diet time.
Actually executing a major weight reduction program, though, much like with human beings, is no easy task. Unlike you or I, where motivation is the issue, the prohibitive measure in trimming a car's waistline is money. Lightweight materials are expensive, with carbon fiber and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic still primarily in the domain of higher end vehicles. Even aluminum construction, pioneered on a mass-produced level by Audi and Jaguar, is only now starting to make its way into the mainstream, thanks to the upcoming Ford F-150.
With this concept, though, Ford is attempting to show that a mass-produced, lightweight vehicle isn't too far off. This is the Lightweight Concept, and while it may look like a Fusion, it weighs as much as a Fiesta. For reference, the lightest Fusion available to the public is the 3,323-pound, 2.5-liter model with a manual transmission. A manually equipped, 1.6-liter Fiesta, meanwhile, is just 2,537 pounds.
