1956 Ford Thunderbird, 312V8, Auto trans, power steering/brakes/windows, TC radio, tinted glass, working power seat, padded dash, original seat belts.  Late production in unbelievably nice original unrestored condition with original paint and upholstery.  The "top " was repainted for stress crack repair.

No rust, excellent body.  I am the third owner, sold new in Southern California, always garaged and pampered.  Runs and drives nice.  Porthole top only.  Old Mark 4 a/c unit.  Original owners manual, some records and books came with it.  It has won survivor class events.  The car shows some patina and some minor issues.  The bottom of the seat on the driver's side has some seam separations, but is useable and presentable.  I had to replace the carpet.  The inside chrome is very nice and clean.  The top headliner is clean and latches are nice and correct.  The T&C radio is clean but stopped working.  The tack face is nice, but the cable came in a ziplock bag (?)  The clock is clean but not operating.  The interior light works as does the lighting system, outside too.  The tail light lenses were replaced.  The engine all looks correct.  I don't know if any of the drivetrain is rebuilt, but it runs and shifts right, no leaks and doesn't run hot.  There is no signs of a collision.  Bumpers have good original chrome.  The original skirts are on it.  The original jack is there, trunk floor is solid, rubber mat is very good, the exhaust is in good shape, comes out below the bumpers so no soot marks.  This car gets the looks because it is original.  The Ford crest is still visable on the original seat.  The car has the 1956 vinyl smell, not smoked in.

The car had a frame mounted trailer hitch on it when I got it.  The stance was all wrong, too high in the back (grossly high), so I removed it, and now it sits right, but two small tabs are left on the frame and can easily be removed.  I am physically unable to do it (stroke).  Former owner had a Chris-craft he pulled.  The front bumper has no dents or twists and the bumper bullets are nice.  The upper lip moulding has a small ding.  Correct headlight rings, pans, grill are all good.  It doesn't appear to have been hit.  The plastic emblems are all original, body-hubcaps (some fading).  The rear tire folds back correctly.  No rust under trunk lid lip or hood.  This is truly a rare survivor!  For it's age, it's the best one I've had.  The tires are bias ply with very good tread, correct rims and caps.  The original keys and locks work.  The driver's window has one crack, no bubbles or separation in windshield or back, sides.  The top seals look good but the door rubber is dry but useable.

Payment should be cashier check, money order, bank to bank wire transfer, or personal check.  Funds will be received before release of vehicle.  Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements.

Editors' Picks March 2021 | Ford Mustang Mach-E, Polestar 2, Land Rover Defender and more

Thu, Apr 8 2021

The month of March was unofficial minivan month here at Autoblog. We drove all of them but the Kia Carnival, but don’t worry, you wonÂ’t have to wait much longer to read that review. Among all the family-toting machines, we drove some more exciting vehicles including the Land Rover Defender and a pair of up-and-coming EVs. It was a month of excellent cars, meaning that this monthÂ’s litter of EditorsÂ’ Picks is stacked. In case you missed FebruaryÂ’s picks, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary or stand out in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in March that earned the honor of being an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Ford Bronco Sport 2021 Ford Bronco Sport First Edition View 32 Photos Quick take: Ford's baby Bronco is an authentic foil to the big Bronco 2-Door and 4-Door. It brings rugged styling, better-than-average off-road capability and thoughtful utility features to a generic segment of cars. Score: 8 What it competes with: Jeep Compass, Jeep Cherokee, Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek, Kia Seltos, Chevrolet Trailblazer Pros: Stellar design, excellent off-road, clever interior details throughout Cons: Pricier than most, average transmission, underwhelming interior quality and ambiance in lowest trims From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — “I genuinely enjoy driving this cute crossover. It feels like a mini truck on the road, and Ford admirably translated the design from its big Bronco over to this Escape-based crossover. News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "The Bronco Sport isn't perfect, the transmission could use some work, and it's a little bumpy, but it's a characterful little thing with loads of style, great visibility and space, and impressive capabilities on and off road in the powerful Badlands form." In-depth analysis: 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Review | Bronco for the masses   2021 Land Rover Defender 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 View 64 Photos Quick take: The Land Rover Defender provides everything you'd hope for in a modern Land Rover: superlative off-road capability, surprisingly plush on-road demeanor, abundant interior space and abundant character. The base four-cylinder is likely all you'll need and lower trim levels provide more than enough equipment.

Mulally wanted to kill Lincoln as late as last year, Fields vows to turn it around

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

Lincoln fans might want to give incoming Ford CEO Mark Fields a pat on the back for having a hand in saving the brand from the chopping block last year. He's among the people spearheading the rejuvenation of the division away from its stodgy image to appeal to younger customers.
According to two unnamed sources speaking to Bloomberg, CEO Alan Mulally was ready to kill Lincoln last year. Following the slow production ramp-up of the MKZ combined a with a costly ad campaign, Mulally was frustrated and openly suggested dropping the brand. However, Fields and Jim Farley, Ford's marketing boss, convinced the CEO that the brand was worth saving. They also created a plan to prevent similar problems for new models in the future.
It seems that one part of the strategy may involve waiting until new models are at dealers before starting a big ad campaign for them. Lincoln global director, Matt VanDyke, recently told Autoblog that the division is holding off on a full marketing push behind the new MKC crossover to prevent the supply problems that plagued the MKZ last year. Its big offensive begins in the fall when the CUVs are at all of the dealers and consumers are at home watching more TV. VanDyke also told Bloomberg that Fields, Farley and Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas, have more direct oversight over new product launches now.

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"
