For your consideration is our 2002 ford Taurus lx. I picked this up for my oldest son at a state of Connecticut surplus auction 4 or 5 years ago. The state of CT maintained the car very well but it did come with numerous exterior dings and dents that you will see in the pictures. The nicks never bothered us as we just wanted a safe, reliable, efficient vehicle for our boy. This car has been very dependable for us and will make a great car for its new owner.
I've spared no expense maintaining this car. It has four newer matching tires with 75% or more tread. I've been good about changing the oil end fluids on time using premium oil. It has new rotors and brake pads all the way around and stops on a dime. We recently replaced the starter, charged the air conditioning system, and did a complete service with new oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and windshield wipers. The car runs as good or better than new with no leaks, vibrations, noises, or rattles.
The interior is very clean and never smoked in. Other than the state supplied nicks on the outside, you'd never know the car is 10 years old. It comes with a nice pioneer stereo system that will link to your ipod or mp3 player. We always know when he's pulling in the driveway because the stereo thump precedes him.
The car is surprisingly good on gas for a mid size sedan.. I think he gets high 20's on the highway and low/mid 20's around town. The front wheel drive and good all season tires make this car amazing in bad weather.
As for the negatives, there really is nothing to mention other than the exterior dents and scratches. There's virtually no rust or mechanical issues to mention. Bid confidently knowing you're getting a safe, dependable, well maintained vehicle. The winning bidder can pick this up and drive it across country with no worries.
This is a no reserve auction. Cash at pickup is strongly preferred though paypal is ok if you must. Please plan to conclude this transaction within 7 days of auction close.

Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey, list dominated by Japanese [w/video]
Mon, 29 Oct 2012It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate.
Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus - in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight.
Audi climbed a total of 18 spots from last year, and Cadillac and GMC round out this year's top gainers breaking into the top 15. Helping Cadillac's upward movement, the CTS Coupe was named the most reliable domestic car. Lincoln, Volvo and Chrysler join Ford on this year's biggest loser list.
Bill Ford augments his power by nearly doubling stake of supervoting shares
Fri, 28 Jun 2013Bill Ford Jr. has more sway than ever over the automaker that bears his surname, as the great-grandson of Ford's founder has reportedly doubled is holdings of Class B Ford stock. According to a report from Reuters (which cites a newly discovered securities filing), he acquired some 3.7 million Class B shares from an unnamed family member.
Class B shares of Ford stock are held by descendants of Henry Ford and offer expanded voting power to their holders - Bill Ford Jr. now controls roughly 11.5 percent of the total Class B pool. Ford Jr. is also a one of five trustees that manage a voting trust that oversees the majority of these "supervoting" shares. In total, Reuters reports there are 71 million Class B shares that account for 40 percent of the voting power in the company, despite making up just 2 percent of the total volume of all Ford stock.
Ford Jr. served as Ford's CEO until 2006, when he stepped down to hire and make space for current CEO, Alan Mulally. The move to consolidate Ford family voting power, at least somewhat, is seen by many as a comforting sign with Mulally's departure from the company likely to happen in the next several years.
Jay Leno is far beyond driven in his 1971 Pantera
Mon, 23 Jun 2014Perhaps it's fitting that the band Pantera is known for its heavy metal music, because the DeTomaso Pantera is the automotive equivalent of a metal album. It's short, aggressive and makes a mean sound. It doesn't mess around either, with a Ford 351-cubic-inch (5.75-liter) V8 sending mountains of torque to the rear wheels. This week, Jay Leno takes us on a detailed tour of his '71 to show why it rocks.
There's a regular format to Jay Leno's Garage. It starts with Jay and maybe a guest taking a look at the car and talking about its history, and then they take it out on the open road. However, this video is practically a Pantera buyer's guide. Jay is adamant from the start that the last thing anyone should own is a stock example. To remedy this, he and his guest, the editor of the Pantera Club magazine, take viewers to school about some of the ways to turn them into even better performance machines.
No matter what you do to it, though, the Pantera requires that the driver adapt to it, not the other way around. For example, Jay isn't a big guy by most standards, but he has to cram himself into the cockpit with his shoes off and shirt partially unbuttoned just to go for a drive. Still, once out on the road, it all makes sense with that rumbling V8 and those Italian supercar looks. Scroll down to watch and learn a lot more about this uncompromising '70s performance car.
