This 2001 Ford Taurus SEL was acquired by a mechanic as a part of a trade for services rendered on the previous owners SUV.  A thorough inspection revealed the SEL was extremely sound mechanically with a beautifully maintained interior.

Manufactured by Ford in April of 2001, this car was purchased buy the sole owner in May of 2001 and driven an average of less than 8,500 miles per year.  The interior leather and appointments are in excellent condition, reflecting relatively light use over the past 12 years.  The SEL trim level was the top of the line for the Taurus in 01, offering a plethora of standard features.  In addition, this Taurus was equipped with a few additional options, including traction control, Mach premium sound system with a 6 disc trunk mounted changer, power adjustable pedals, power glass sliding moon roof, and side impact air bags.  EVERYTHING on this vehicle is in full working order.  When tested, the automatic climate control system produced 43 degree max A/C with an outside ambient temperature of 66 degrees.

The Duratec 3.0L 24 Valve V-6 is a strong runner, producing 200 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque, with an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.  Inspection of the spark plugs showed gaps between .053" and .055", falling within the factory specs of .052" and .056".  All fluids are appropriate in appearance and at proper levels, and the one year old Interstate battery is in good shape.

The undercarriage is clean and relatively rust free.  Front pads and rotors are also in good shape with approximately 90% life remaining, and the rear drums are in good working order.

The set of 215/60/R16 Continental ContiPro Contact tires are all in good condition and have an average of 10/32" tread depth remaining.

The exterior of the Taurus cleans up well, but is showing some age in a couple of areas.  Other than minor dings and scratches, there is a rust spot forming over the left rear wheel arch, and both front and rear bumpers have a few cracks.  The alloy wheels remain bright with only the slightest bit of corrosion around the edges.

Exceptionally rare '65 Ford GT40 Roadster prototype up for auction

Sat, 14 Jun 2014

Think of mid-engined supercars and your mind is bound to gravitate towards Europe, but the United States has been known to make a handful from time to time - exceptional vehicles from the likes of Vector, SSC, Mosler, Hennessey, and Saleen. But long before any of those came around, Ford famously became obsessed with beating Ferrari at its own game, leading to the development of the iconic GT40.
The story is well known, sending Ford to the checkered flag at Le Mans four times in a row in the late 1960s. Ford and Shelby also built over 100 for public consumption, but just four of them were roadsters. Of those only one remains in original condition, and now that exceedingly rare example going up for auction.
Consigned to RM Auctions for its mid-August sale during Pebble Beach weekend in Monterey, California, this 1965 model is the first GT40 Roadster built. It was used as a development and demonstration vehicle for Ford and Shelby. Carroll Shelby himself drove Henry Ford II in this very car during one of many test and demo events, this time held for Ford's board of directors in Los Angeles.

The 11 best scenes from the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Tue, Jun 30 2015

Over the last three days, the Goodwood Estate has played home to the eponymous Festival of Speed. Thrown by the biggest gearhead in the British aristocracy – Charles Gordon-Lennox, the Earl of March and Kinrara – the Festival of Speed is essentially a tremendous, gasoline-fuelled party, complete with a very large lawn sculpture, that features the world's hottest, weirdest, fastest, and loudest race, production, and historic models. While there are quite literally dozens and dozens of videos from the event – not to mention the full-day replays (of which only day one is available, at present) – we've sifted through them to pluck away the very best. There's stuff from the official Goodwood YouTube channel, as well as several videos from automakers and other third-party channels, and it's all available below. 2015 Ford Mustang GT350R Looks Barely Controllable If you thought the highest-performance Ford Mustang would somehow get more tractable or civilized once it moved to an independent rear suspension, this video shows you have nothing to worry about. Watch as an unnamed driver wrestles the new Shelby GT350R and its flat-plane, 5.2-liter V8 up the hillclimb circuit. Even with the new suspension and sticky tires, this Mustang wants to go any direction but straight, especially following its launch. 2016 Ford Focus RS, Is Very Loud, Blue Ken Block makes his first appearance on our list. Before he steps into his Hoonicorn Mustang, though, the Gymkhana expert tackled the hill in the all-new Focus RS. The vicious bellow of the 2.3-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder is the star of this commentary-free video, although the gorgeous Nitrous Blue paint job is a nice accompaniment, as well. 1965 Ford Mustang Hoonicorn Runs Hill, Nearly Kills Lord March Mr. Block's two runs behind the wheel of the Hoonicorn were, unsurprisingly, very eventful. While one attempt goes off without a hitch, seeing the American rally driver slip and slide his way to the top of the hill while taking a short break for a donut, the other is slightly more dramatic. Block, along with Lord March in the passenger seat, carries a bit too aggressive an angle into a turn and nearly puts the NASCAR-powered Mustang into the hay bales. Check out the first video above, and the second one below. Kimi Raikkonen Makes Us Miss F1's V8 Era The latest Formula One cars have been maligned for the lackluster noise produced by the new 1.6-liter, turbocharged V6.

What next for Alan Mulally?

Wed, 23 Apr 2014

Alan Mulally has emerged as a hero when it comes to American manufacturing. He came to Ford in 2006 after serving as head of Boeing's commercial aircraft division, streamlined operations, sold off the costly elements of its Premier Automotive Group and saved Ford from having to be bailed out by the federal government like its cross-town rivals Chrysler and General Motors did. But as we reported mere days ago, he's widely expected to step down from the chief executive's office at Ford shortly.
So what's next for one of the most successful executives in the business? Hard to say, but don't expect Mulally to disappear into retirement. Though he didn't ultimately take the top job at Microsoft, industry insiders expect to see him in another influential position - likely as a board director or even chairman of another company. (We say "another company" and not Ford because while Bill Ford may have stepped aside as CEO to bring Mulally on board in the first place, we don't see him giving up his chairmanship of the board also.)
Mulally has likely already lined up his next move, and could either announce what that move will be as soon as Ford confirms Mark Fields as his successor, or could wait awhile. Insiders speculate that he could leverage his transportation and aerospace experience into a position at General Electric or a major airline, his manufacturing expertise to benefit a company like Procter & Gamble or his management skills at a consultancy firm.
