Up for sale is my 1991 Taurus SHO Plus, with just under 89,000 documented miles. That's right, this is a 5 digit odometer that has NOT rolled over.
To many SHO enthusiasts, the Gen 1 SHOs are the most desirable due to their tidier exterior dimensions, lower weight and more performance-oriented suspension setup. Additionally, the Plus Package (a 1991-only option) is the most desirable of the Gen 1s. This car is a true Plus Package, estimated to be 1 of 900 made, in 1991 only.

So why am I selling? This is my weekend fun car. I am a SHO enthusiast and have wanted a Gen 1 Plus since they were new, but I was never able to locate a car. The stars aligned when the previous owner (an auto journalist friend of mine) bought this car from another enthusiast. I then bought the car from him. I have truly enjoyed the car, but it's time to downsize to two daily drivers, and I refuse to press this car into daily driver service. Hence it's time for her to go to a new owner.
Here is some documentation on what constitutes a Plus Package SHO:
The car has all the Plus Package elements: Rear spoiler, fiberglass hood (in excellent condition with original decals and hood pad), blackout window surrounds, and blackout mirrors. The car is Jewel Green, a unique color ONLY available on the Plus Package. As far as Gen 1 SHOs go, this is as rare as it gets. You won't see yourself coming or going in this car.
Overall condition is truly excellent as Gen 1 SHOs go. I firmly believe this is one of the nicest Gen 1s for sale anywhere, and THE nicest 1991 Plus for sale anywhere. The car is turn-key, and is in drive-it-anywhere condition. There is no accident damage, and absolutely ZERO rust ANYWHERE. The car gets stored in the winters and is never driven in the rain. The shift knob is new, and is a NOS replacement. It even has a recent oil change. The HVAC control (typically worn and cracked) has been replaced with a spanking new unit and is literally in new condition. The original JBL Audio system was non-functional due to a dead CD player. I replaced the components with a Gen 2 JBL Audio system. The original stereo is included for the next owner. I am also including a painted police grill (very hard to find and currently installed on the car) as well as the original stock grill.
Issues? A few - the car is over 20 years old. That said, they are minor. The A/C is dead (I believe it needs new A/C lines and a recharge), and there are a few small spots of clearcoat fade on the roof that is just starting (common to all first gen clearcoated Taurus models). The sunroof shade is bubbled and flaking. There is a *very* minor driver's side transmission seal leak (a drop or two every two weeks on my garage floor), and will need to be addressed at some point. Aside from those very minor issues, the car is otherwise pristine and needs no large-dollar repairs.
I have full maintenance records (including a clutch job, new struts, subframe mounts, and a full 60K at a well known SHO repair shop, oil changes, recent alignment), and a large amount of OEM spares (ask for details). The car also comes with a full press kit from the 2010 SHO reintroduction at the Chicago Auto Show, including a T shirt, and a die cast Taurus SHO in its original packaging.
I am also including a complete set of OEM Ford shop manuals with the car as well.
SHOs have a special place in my heart, and 1991 Plus models especially. The first and second generation SHOs are historically significant and I believe the first gen cars may be collectible. I want this car to go to an enthusiast who will care for it and treat it with the respect that I and it's previous owners have given it.

Watch how a Ford Raptor rolls down the assembly line in Dearborn
Sun, 30 Mar 2014Bloomberg TV reporter Matt Miller is the proud new owner of a pretty killer truck. How do we know? The reporter headed to Dearborn, MI to Ford's assembly plant, with a film crew in tow, to see exactly how his new F-150 SVT Raptor and its mother-loving 6.2-liter V8 engine, was screwed together.
The resulting video does an excellent job of summing up how an assemblage of parts and pieces is turned into a triple-black Raptor, thanks to the work of some 1,000 employees and about 20 hours of real time. Shelby boosts production of 575-hp Raptor on early demand
Mon, 08 Apr 2013Shelby American unveiled its all-new Shelby Raptor at the New York Auto Show last month, saying that it would build just 100 examples of its off-road bad boy, a pickup priced at $17,995 over the cost of the donor Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. But the Las Vegas outfit apparently underestimated just how popular the supercharged 575-horsepower 4x4 would actually be.
Strong early demand reportedly has Shelby singing a whole new tune, as the company is now saying it will build upwards of 500 units annually. While the increased production will likely make for at least 400 more happy owners, those who were on the original short list - possibly speculating on future values - might not be grinning as much. Needless to say, the company has assured everyone that each and every one of the modified Raptors will still be listed in the official Shelby registry.
Keep in mind that Ford isn't sitting idle on its trophy-truck-for-the-street, either. The company will reveal its own 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition this month.
2014 Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Ford Mustang
Mon, 01 Jul 2013If you're a fan of Ford racing history, a Mustang worshiper or even just an avid follower of our yearly SEMA coverage, you may have heard the back story on the Race Red Mustang you see above. Back in 1964, Holman & Moody was tapped by the English Alan Mann Racing Team to race-prep three Mustangs for competition in the incredibly arduous 4,000-mile Tour de France Automobile rally. Competing mainly against Jaguar MkII saloons over 10 days and 17 stages, the H&M Mustangs took the top two places in the Touring class and the first-ever racing win for Ford's pony car.
Though the history of that first Mustang win hasn't been incredibly well known here in the States, the subsequent decades have seen plenty of racy versions of the car come and go. Last year at the SEMA show, we covered the brief debut of this living tribute to that piece of racing lore, the Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang.
This limited-edition Mustang represents a kind of new venture for H&M, as the legendary racing shop has spent the last few decades earning its keep largely by restoring vintage racing cars. The urge to get back into the world of Ford and Mustang was powerful, however, what with the car's 50th anniversary looming and the current generation of 'Stang just about out the door.
