Up for sale I have a project that I’ve been working on for sometime. Unfortunately, I was laid off of work and will be moving soon, and will not be able to take the truck with me. Truck is being sold as is, with no warranty.

I understand buying a truck on the Internet is difficult, so I will do my best to explain and will invite any questions about my vehicle before end of sale.

Started off as a 1994 Ranger 4x4 4.0 5SPD. I swapped in a 4D55TD (Mitsubishi Turbo Diesel) using all factory Ford running gear. (Transmission, Transfer Case, Drivelines… ETC.) The mileage / hours of the engine were unknown, so I pulled the head and inspected everything before installation. The mileage on the other various driveline components are very low. During re-gearing of the truck, I sought out to find low mileage front / rear end axles (approx. 120,000 mi). I have several “Build Threads” from a couple “Ford Ranger Forum” sites that you can review along with the pictures in this AD. I found that the crosshatched cylinders were still visible and everything looked very good. I cleaned everything up and replaced all the gaskets and seals while everything was accessible. I had Seattle Injector CO. completely rebuild the VE injection pump, along with all 4 of the injectors. During the conversion I contacted the DMV/DOL and got the truck inspected and registered and titled as a DIESEL – Legally. This truck, actually in the state of WA is now emissions EXEMPT! no more emissions, even if you live in an area that smog checks your car/truck. Please verify your local laws, you may still need to test but should be an easy pass. It barley smokes at all especially after warm. Beware of other diesel conversions/swaps that haven’t had their truck inspected and changed. I kept a running list of parts that were either replaced / cleaned during the conversion, and have included that in this AD for you to review.

I also came across a deal on a front end from a newer Ranger, so that is why it doesn’t look like the correct year. It was never in any kind of accident in my possession. Body lines all line up pretty good but could benefit from someone who wanted to take the time and make it look perfect. I had planned on doing all of the body work, along with a paint job before I lost my job and the space to do it. I also didn’t want to just spray a cheap paint job or do quick body work to give the appearance more than it is. It deserves someone who wants to take the time and do quality to work. There is NO rust on the truck, just small dents and paint blemishes. I've driven the truck off and on periodically and it's always done great mostly short range trips of about 50-60 miles or so.

The Interior has also been redone. All gauges (Water, Oil, Volt, Tachometer, Speedo… ETC. all work as they should) I reupholstered the saggy headliner, installed newer carpet; along with power Ford Explorer leather seats (very comfortable), Explorer console, and Over Head Console (Compass, Temp. Gauge... ETC.) I also installed a Boost Gauges and a Pyro (EGT Gauge) with the probe IN the manifold for accurate readings. I have a momentary glow plug switch with a LED indicator light, along with a LED indicator light for water in fuel. Next to the glow plug switch, I have a pre-wired fog light switch (all wired up, just never bought the lights) and an electric fan bypass. All switches have lights to indicate that they are in the ON position. New Pioneer CD player with Bluetooth capability (Mic. is wired into the visor) along with older pioneer speakers.

The cons to the truck are :

Needs a Windshield
Cruise control works OK if enough vacuum is present and on flat terrain, however needs help on long pulls or hills.
Driver side lumbar bag leaks (pump works fine... just deflates)
Needs a paint job and some body work
Has a small oil leak, from what I believe to be the dipstick sheath (it was torn, so I spliced the two haves with a vinyl hose.. pretty sure that is the issue, but haven't looked at it too hard.)
Passenger door key cylinder is tough to turn (opens and closes great from in / out .. drivers side key cylinder works fine, never bothered me)

Here are a couple videos I made before I decided I would sell. Hopefully gives you another perspective.

The truck isn't a "powerhouse" but it does pretty good for the size of the truck and weight. The ideal buyer would be someone who wants to take the time and really make it nice; someone who has an interest in diesels and know how to drive and tune them up. I do believe somebody that has a greater understanding of these engines could do a lot more than I have. I have timing slightly advanced and the fuel up just a hare. The VE pump on these things allow you to truly dial in what you want out of the truck. With one screw, you can turn up the power till the tires spin crazy and you blow black smoke, or dial it down and get the economy you want. Truly amazing how much there is to tune and dial in for your specific needs. I’ve invested a ton of time and money on trying to make it comfortable, reliable, and presentable. I really wish that I didn’t need to sell it, especially now after it has come so far. The few times that I’ve taken it in the snow, it has handled wonderfully.

I will help and work with the buyer in setting up shipping arrangements if necessary.

I have done my best to represent the truck as I can. Please contact me with any questions; I will answer them as soon as I can. Thank You

Curtis

Ford Focus RS will go global, come to US

Thu, Dec 11 2014

"We are transforming our approach to performance." – Mark Fields Ford will launch a new high-performance Focus RS around the world, including the United States, company CEO Mark Fields confirmed at a press conference Thursday morning. It is expected to debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show, though launch timing is unclear. "We are transforming our approach to performance," Fields said. The RS will serve as a hotter variant of the Focus, which will be redesigned next year as part of Ford's 16 product launches. Our spy photographers have already captured images of a purported RS, which you can see above. Ford last sold a Focus RS in Europe in 2009, and it continues the long lineage of RS-badged performance cars, which dates to 1968. "The RS has a significant heritage and pedigree," Ford product chief Raj Nair said. The Focus RS will slot above the Focus ST, which will continue, a spokesman said. The ST runs a turbocharged, 252-horsepower four-cylinder that's paired with a six-speed manual transmission. It also has chassis and design upgrades to reinforce its athletic dynamics. The most recent intel suggests that the new RS could use Ford's 2.3-liter turbo-four, tuned to anywhere from 325 to 350 hp. All-wheel drive is also rumored to be part of the new RS formula. Meanwhile, Ford announced it is putting all of its sporty units under the umbrella name of "Ford Performance," which will be led by Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak. Ford Performance will include Ford Racing, SVT (which is responsible for the Raptor and Shelby GT350) and RS. "We're changing Ford's performance business," Nair said. Ford is placing a renewed emphasis on performance, as the customers tend to be younger, wealthier and better educated, Nair said. In other news, Nair said the company is working on a Raptor version of the new, aluminum-bodied F-150, which launched this year. "I want to get it out as quickly as we can," he said.

Stock Miata beats bunch of high-powered cars in wet 1/4-mile drag race

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

When is a stock, 167-horsepower Mazda MX-5 Miata quicker than a Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lotus Elise and a Porsche 911? When it's raining. Sort of.
Mazda Canada arranged a unique drag race to show off the fact that the Miata's optional power retractable folding hardtop can go from top-down to top-up in just 12 seconds flat. In this video, all six cars line up for a drag race, and it starts to rain (well, sort of - but you'll have to watch the video all the way to the end to see what we mean). The green flag is waved, and the timer starts as soon as the convertibles begin to put their tops up. But because the Miata's roof mechanism gets the car's roof back up a full 5.1 seconds quicker than the second-place car, the Mazda gets a serious advantage off the line for the actual drag race.
It's a fun video. And while we've spoiled the results (come on, the video was uploaded by Mazda, you knew the Miata was going to win), be sure to see how it all unfolds, below.

Ford, Samsung shack up to bring regen braking to non-hybrid models [w/video]

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

Ford must be desperate to get itself ready for the beach this summer because it is really trying to get into shape. Shortly after unveiling the Lightweight Concept that cut the weight of a Fusion down to that of a Fiesta, it's now the rest of the line's turn for improvement. The company is wrapping up a 10-year research project aimed at developing next-gen automotive batteries to improve efficiency.
Ford claims that 70 percent of its lineup will have stop/start tech by 2017. The key to this massive proliferation is its new dual-battery system that combines a lithium-ion battery with a lead-acid one and regenerative braking. The setup works by harvesting braking energy and converting it to electricity. When the vehicle stops, the engine shuts off, but the Li-ion battery has enough juice to keep the accessories running. The engine starts up again as drivers take their foot off the brake. The layout would mean less wasted gas while idling. It's already available on Ford hybrids and is somewhat similar to the i-Eloop capacitor-based system from Mazda.
The bigger challenge is tuning the regenerative braking right. While hybrid drivers may be a little more adventurous, when it comes to getting a hang of regen braking, conventional buyers might not be so open-minded. The systems have a tendency to be a little grabby at first and then taper off at very low speeds. Ford needs to make sure it's just right to avoid turning off buyers.
