1970 Ford Ranchero Gt Restomod on 2040-cars

I am putting my toy up for grabs and a new owner....I have owned it for 19 years.  This is a vary rare vehicle these days, the production run for the Ranchero GT in 1970 was only 3905 units built....this was the lowest production run of ANY Ford model built in 1970.  I am owner #2 and bought this car in Denver when I needed a bigger pickup as my step-son's S10 was too small for me.  I have used it over the years as my daily driver, garage queen and it is now licensed in PA as a working pickup and must pass safety inspection every year....it has a fresh one.  It was originally a 351 4V car with an FMX transmission, that drive-line is long gone and in it's place it now has a custom built 1972 302 I got from a Maverick Grabber in southern GA.  Now a lot of guys are going to scoff at "custom built"...but in reality it would take a six pack, or two and an entire afternoon to go through all the work I have done over the course of 19 years....I have been an aircraft mechanic for 43 years and have history in building and racing in SCCA....in my younger years, lol.  The original FMX transmission was replaced with an all aluminum C5 equipped with TCI Street Fighter valve body and stall converter....it has be recently rebuilt with a new converter.  The rear end is stock 3.25 open 9" with 11" drum brakes....my son wrecked his first car, a Maverick and I install the front disc brakes from it.  The entire front suspension is 1970 Mustang with a 1 1/8" sway bar, I also instal a 3/4" rear sway bar which was never offered, Lakewood traction bars, (for looks) and replaced the rear leaf springs last year.  So it goes fast, stops well, and handles like it is on rails, the drive train change shaved 500 lbs from the vehicle.  It is simple....no power brakes, no power steering, no radio, no cup holders and one wire to run the engine.

I will include a new carpet kit....the original is finally starting to disintegrate due to age, new window seals which are old and aged, a complete shop manual library with wiring diagrams and some other original parts, like the power steering system...I even have the original FMX if you want it. I will also include the build sheet which I found in the springs of the seat when it got the NOS cloth insert installed.  Now if you are asking why after 19 years I am giving up on my toy I will tell you....I am torn to be sure, but my wife and I have decided to retire to a townhouse in southern Arizona and the garage and driveway will only support two cars.  Hers is non-negotiable (LOL) so I am giving up the hot rod, the trailer and my 2004 F150 FX4...downsizing.

The Ranchero is for sale locally on Washington DC Craigslist as a package deal with the truck, trailer, spare truck engine and parts, so I reserved the right to end the auction if sold locally.  I would prefer a local pickup, and I would consider trading for a 2001-04 F150 Lightning. If you're serious and win the auction we can work out the shipping/transfer details...you will be responsible for all shipping costs and I will require a $500 non-returnable deposit within 2 days of the end of the auction.  The Ranchero has a clear PA title and I will provide a Bill of Sale.  This is a rare vehicle, most have gone to the crusher or are rusting in a field....we typically are the only example at most car shows, including the Ford Nationals at Carlisle, PA...where in 2007 it won second place in class. Is it perfect?...nope, but it is a nice example of a rare vehicle, it gets favorable comment everywhere I take it, and yes, I am still driving it until it is sold.

Ford dinged by OSHA for asbestos at Buffalo plant

Sat, 20 Jul 2013

Ford has come under fire from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for violations regarding asbestos exposure in a company metal stamping plant in Buffalo, NY. OSHA has cited Ford for eight violations in total, according to an Automotive News report, and faces fines of up to $41,800. 537 workers are employed at the stamping facility.
The violations include a pipefitter at the facility being exposed to asbestos-containing material while working on a steam line, other workers exposed to the material without respiratory protection and work areas that were not designed to limited the number of workers in contact with asbestos. Further, areas in which asbestos was present were not properly restricted, and levels of asbestos in the air were not monitored.
According to an unnamed Ford spokesperson in the AN report, the company feels that the OSHA citation is erroneous saying, "We have fully cooperated with the local OSHA officials and we don't believe the citations are warranted." Ford also maintains that it will work with the authorities to resolve the issue.

Recharge Wrap-up: Ford 1.0L EcoBoost a hit in Europe; Build a tiny inverter, win $1 million

Mon, Aug 11 2014

In Europe, Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is the best-selling turbocharged gasoline engine. The three-cylinder motor powers 20 percent of new Fords sold in Europe. Earlier this year, it won its third International Engine of the Year award, and between January and June, it was sold in about 120,000 cars. So far this year, 38 percent of Fords sold in the Netherlands, 35 percent in Denmark and 32 percent in Switzerland have been powered by the 1.0-liter EcoBoost. The engine's turbocharger spins at 248,000 rpm, and provides 24 psi of pressure. The engine produces up to 138 horsepower, depending on the version. Read more in the press release below. When lithium-ion battery packs are retired from the road, remanufacturing, repurposing, and recycling are worthwhile options, according to a study by Mineta Transportation Institute. The study included a cost-benefit analysis of those three options, and found remanufacturing to be the best route. To get the most out of them, batteries should be tested and have their damaged cells replaced then put back to use. Repurposing is the second best option, using the remaining available charge for something besides cars. Recycling on its own isn't profitable, but it could make economic sense with "increased technological breakthroughs." Learn more at Recycling International or download the report here. A smaller inverter for EVs can win you $1 million. The Little Box Challenge is an open competition to build a power inverter with a density of at least 50 watts per cubic inch. Google and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are offering the hefty prize to the team that builds the inverter with the highest power density within an enclosed volume of 40 cubic inches. Teams must register by September 30. Read more at Green Car Congress or learn more at the Little Box Challenge website.
