1997 Ford Probe Gt Hatchback 2-door 2.5l on 2040-cars

I am relisting my Ford Probe. I have included the questions and answers from the previous listing.

This is a stock 1997 Ford Probe GT with a manual transmission. I have owned it for over 6 years and driven it gently, and I am a non-smoker. It is great in the snow! I recently had a complete new clutch and a new fuel pump installed. It runs well. It is black with gray cloth interior, and has keyless entry, and every option available at the time--which are still working today (except one fog light is cracked). It has a Pioneer CD player with a removable faceplate and a 10 CD changer mounted in the trunk. There is a little rust on the sunroof. 178,700 miles. The starting price is below the cost of the recent repairs. I have done the usual oil changes every 3000 miles, and maintenance and repairs over the years. I put a new fuel filter and a new air filter in around August. I had new springs put on the front a few years ago.

Please see answered questions below. This car needs some minor repairs. It has the usual Probe conditions of leaking valve cover gaskets and broken stabilizer bar links in the rear. I have been told it has a leaking brake caliper on the rear. I did have new pads and rotors put on the rear when they did the clutch. (How they missed the leaking caliper, idk) I have also been told it needs rear struts. I am not a mechanic, so I have been given these observations by others.

I have added some pics of the dash and sun roof. It does not leak.

Have added several pics. The picture of the driver's door is taken underneath to show the extent of the rust. The floor pic is taken without the floor mat to show the actual floor condition. The floor mats , and the car in general is in need of a good cleaning. It is cold and snowing here, so I really can't do that now. Some of the pics have snow in them--that is the white flecks in the pic.

The wires on the passenger seat are from the CD changer, and from the in-dash stereo for a Sirius connection and a USB connection.

Added a better pic of the sunroof without most of the ice....still some by the rust which is on the left side of the pic.

Question & Answer Answered On
Q:  Hello, I am very interested in the car. I would be willing to make a bid but I can't afford to have it shipped right away. Would you be willing to hold the car for a while until I can get is shipped. The rates are ridiculous as I am sure you are aware. I should be able to get it shipped whenever my tax returns come in which will be sometime in Feb depending on the government which is slow! If it is too much trouble I definitely understand. Thanks for any info in advance.

A:  It is not a problem to hold the car if it is paid for.

Q:  Have you replaced the timing belt & water pump ? If so, at what mileage ? Jan-18-14
A:  The water pump was replaced at about 150,000 miles The timing belt was checked at that time and my mechanic said it was in good shape, so it did not need to be replaced.

Q:  if i were to purchase this would you be willing to meet part way ? i am in central MN How far from MPLS are you ? whats your reserve price ? Jan-16-14
A:  There is no reserve price. I am not comfortable with meeting you half way, because I want you to see it and make sure you will be happy with it. I would be happy to pick you up at the bus station if you want to take a bus here. It has some clunks and creaks because it needs rear struts and broken stabilizer bar links in the rear. My mechanic said it is not a problem to drive it that way.

Q:  Hi, Describe condition of interior; i.e., condition of dash pad and seats. Describe damage incurred in January 2012 accident in Illinois. Sunroofs/Moonroofs are hard to find. Is rust repairable? Call if you prefer. Thank you, Larry
Jan-15-14
A:  Dash is good. Drivers seat had to be repaired where you slide in against the seat along the seat back. I put new padding in and sewed it, but you need a seat cover for that one. Inflatable lumber pillow has been repaired a couple of times, but I could only do so much with the design, so it's not super full. The rest of the seats are good. Accident in 2012: Elderly lady pulled out in front of me. I tried to avoid her but still got hit on the right front. Fender is new, door is used, but rust free, I was told. There is a dent in the rear quarter that didn't get fixed. Got a new ball joint (I think that's what it's called?), tire and rim. No paint work other than primer was done. The body guy mentioned rust under the door, but I'm not sure about the driver's door. I will investigate that. (The driver's side had a long dent when I bought the car, and I just pounded it out as best I could and primer coated that. The body has some dents and dings.) The sun roof is probably repairable (I will get a pic), but I saw some on eBay that were all composite materials, which was the way I would have gone if I had kept it. I just decided wanted to spend my free time restoring my 80+ year-old-house.

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.

GMC Hummer EV SUV first drive, RIP Camaro, Ferrari Roma Spider | Autoblog Podcast # 773

Fri, Mar 24 2023

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by News Editor Joel Stocksdale. They start off with one of the week's biggest official news items — the impending death of the sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro. On the subject of powerful American cars, they pivot to a teaser from Stellantis execs that there are big things ahead for its Dodge Charger SRT Daytona Banshee concept. From there, they look at Ferrari's new topless Roma and then get into Ford's multi-billion-dollar electric vehicle pivot. Speaking of expensive EVs, Joel just got back from driving the new GMC Hummer SUV. He also had the new F-150 Lightning Pro in his driveway, and that's followed by Greg's update on Autoblog's long-term Toyota Sienna.  Autoblog Podcast # 773 Get The Podcast Apple Podcasts – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes Spotify – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast on Spotify RSS – Add the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator MP3 – Download the MP3 directly Rundown News Chevrolet Camaro production will officially end after 2024 model year Dodge CEO teases more to come from Charger SRT Daytona Banshee Ferrari Roma Spider returns a front-engined soft top to the lineup Ford Model e losing billions as it says EV unit should be seen as startup What we're driving Ford F-150 Lightning Pro 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV 2023 Toyota Sienna Platinum AWD Feedback Email – Podcast@Autoblog.com Review the show on Apple Podcasts Autoblog is now live on your smart speakers and voice assistants with the audio Autoblog Daily Digest.
