1993 Ford Mustang Lx "triple White" 5.0 Limited Edition Convertible on 2040-cars
Plano, Texas, United States
Okay, for starters, this is a collector's car. It has 40,525 original
miles. The car, up until February 2013 (when I got it as a birthday
present), was 100% stock. It is about as close to "mint condition" as
you can get.
When I got the car in Feb, the first thing I did was add a pretty decent sound-system. I can't give you all the specs, but the head unit was replaced with a top-of-the-line Alpine (bluetooth, mp3, usb, phone, etc) and the speakers in the doors and back seat were replaced. A custom box and 10" (might be a 12") sub & amp were installed in the trunk. Interestingly enough, the geniuses at Best Buy (who had a blank check from me) forgot to put dash speakers in, so the dash speakers are currently disconnected. Anyway, the system sounds great. I can provide receipts for the $1700 I spent at Best Buy. Then, a few months ago, I dropped off the car at a local specialty performance shop for a tune up, and they ended up replacing the radiator with a large electric 3-core version (I think I remember this correctly), and then I asked them to move on and replace the exhaust, so they added shorty headers, high flow catalytic converter H-pipe, and Flowmaster 2-chamber mufflers. It sounds great. They also added a host of other simple "bolt-ons", like K&N filter & mass air, etc etc, but I don't remember all of this off the top of my head. The total cost was $4200. They didn't fix the brakes. I ordered a rear disc brake conversion kit, but got tired of waiting after 5 weeks and canceled that part. I would seriously recommend upgrading the brakes on the car when you get it. They work no problem, but just aren't what I would prefer. A total of 1500 Limited Edition white LX convertibles were manufactured in 1993. I can assure you that there are no more than 1499 of them in existence today, since the one i bought when I was 16 (1996) was stolen and chopped to pieces. Saddest day of my life. This car is 1 of 1056 automatics, and it is in better condition than the car I had in the '90s. But it does have a few issues that have developed since I got it: 1) the back driver's side slim window does not go up or down automatically. It can be moved up and down, and the motor still works, but I think that it jumped off track and needs to be corrected. I haven't had the time to deal with it, but again, the motor sounds to be working correctly. 2) the passenger's side electronics don't work that well. For example, you can use the switch on the driver's side door to operate the passenger windows, but you cannot operate the passenger window from the passenger seat. Again, the windows on the passenger side go up and down just fine, but not with the buttons on the passenger side. 3) the plastic molding around the driver's side interior door handle is somehow missing half of it. This is probably a few bucks to repair, but you should know about it. 4) the ash tray cover in the center console doesn't close or stay closed. Pretty standard for this car, but again, want you to know. 5) I rubbed up against the front-left bumper with my ATV and left a little rubber scuffing on the bumper. I buffed out most of it, but need a professional to get it back to normal. It's not broken at all, but could use a bit of touching up from someone that knows what they're doing. Chances are good that by the time you come by to see the car, this will be fixed, but it's a SLIGHT mark at the present moment. Otherwise, the car starts, runs, shifts, etc etc etc in near perfect condition. The top goes up and down automatically without incident, doesn't leak, isn't cracked or falling apart. Everything on this car other than stated above is original, and looks that way too. The car looks and runs like a vehicle with 40,xxx miles on it. It's really amazing to drive...it's such a little car (it was much bigger when I was 16), and it's so sporty. I get compliments on it every time I leave the driveway, and it's really something different on the road today. I'm not excited to sell it. My kids love it and I'll miss the top-down excitement this spring. But, I'm traveling quite a bit now on business out of the country and it might as well go to a new home where someone can enjoy it more than I am at the moment. Thanks for reading and safe travels! |

Uber hopes facilities in Detroit will help shape its autonomous future
Mon, Sep 19 2016Hot off the heels of unleashing its fleet of self-driving vehicles in Pittsburgh, PA, Uber announced plans to open a new facility in the Detroit, MI area, reports Automotive News. The new facility was announced at an event hosted by Society of Automotive Engineers in Detroit, MI. Uber's vice president of global vehicle programs Sherif Marakby revealed the news, reports Automotive News. The facility is meant to help the ride-sharing company collaborate with suppliers and automakers in the area. There's no word on where Uber will build the new facility or how big it will be, as those factors have yet to be determined. Just like Pittsburgh, PA, Detroit, MI could become another testing ground for the ride-sharing company. The latest move to open a facility in the Detroit area comes after Uber offered users in Pittsburgh the chance to ride in one of its autonomous vehicle as it looks to gain vital real-world testing. Uber is utilizing a fleet of modified Ford Fusions. Earlier this year in April, the automaker announced a partnership with Google, Lyft, Uber, and Volvo to develop autonomous cars. A new facility in Detroit would strengthen the partnership and help Uber, as well as Ford put autonomous vehicles on the road faster. Ford recalls Explorer and Lincoln MKC for fire hazard
Thu, Mar 31 2016The Basics: Ford will recall 5,536 examples of the 2016 Explorer and 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC. The Explorers have build dates between October 20, 2014, and January 28, 2016, at the Chicago Assembly Plant. The MKCs are from between November 25, 2013, and January 25, 2016, at the Louisville Assembly Plant. In total, there are 3,129 total affected examples of the 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2,407 examples of the 2016 Ford Explorer. Of these, 1,543 are in the US and 3,993 are in Canada. The Problem: The combination of the engine block design and the block heater in these vehicles can cause the part to overheat when plugged in. Injuries/Deaths: None reported, but there are two cases of underhood fires in Canada. If you own one: Ford will begin notifying owners during the week of May 16, company spokesperson John Cangany tells Autoblog. Related Video: Ford issues safety recall for certain 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles to replace engine block heaters Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 5,500 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles to remove the heaters and replace them with an updated design. The engine block design, coupled with the particular block heater installed in these vehicles, causes the unit to be susceptible to overheating when the vehicle is parked and the block heater is plugged in –increasing the risk of an underhood fire. Ford is aware of two reports of underhood fires in Canada, but is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. Affected vehicles include certain 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC vehicles built at Louisville Assembly Plant, Nov. 25, 2013 through Jan. 25, 2016 and certain 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant, Oct. 20, 2014 through Jan. 28, 2016. There are 5,536 vehicles affected by the issue, including 3,129 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2,407 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles, with 1,543 of the affected vehicles in the United States and federalized territories and 3,993 in Canada. Dealers will remove and replace the engine block heater with an updated design and, if needed, replace the cord at no cost to the customer.
Rowan Atkinson crashes at Goodwood Revival
Sun, 14 Sep 2014To quote Harry Hogge (played by Robert Duvall) in Days of Thunder, "rubbin, son, is racin'." That can mean some unfortunate damage to high-end racing machinery, which may be repaired easily enough in stock car racing, but when it comes to vintage racing, the stakes can be that much higher. And yet incidents do occur, like at this weekend's Goodwood Revival.
Among the many competitors taking part in the retro racing event in England was none other than Rowan Atkinson, the actor perhaps best known for playing Mr. Bean. Driving a classic Ford Falcon Sprint in the Shelby Cup event, Atkinson (pictured above at the 2012 revival) reportedly crashed head-on into another car on track.
According to reports, the two cars up spun out. The driver in between managed to avoid a pile-up, but Atkinson couldn't steer clear and hit the obstructing vehicle. Fortunately Rowan walked away unscathed (and, we imagine, in a humorous manner), but while we don't know how extensive the damage was to the Falcon, it was enough to take it out of the race.
