I purchased this truck in 2000, and, after about six months of concerted effort, was able to turn it into a very solid and reliable vehicle. This was my daily driver for ten years, and, I even took it on trips. The motor is a 1949, which means it has the "modern" distributor. I put in a capacitive discharge ignition system so I would never have to diddle with the points. They just act as a very low current switch. It was treated to lots of new parts: new brakes, new drums, new drive shaft, new alternator. I also put in a Hurst shifter and had a nice Briz bumper made for the rear. The pickup box is not original Ford, and the wood bed is now shot. The running boards are fiberglass reproductions. Converted to a 12 volt system, including a 12 volt starter. The cylinder compressions were good and even. It did use oil - I believe it was coming out of the valve stems. With the dual carb setup, it was only getting about 11 miles to the gallon. I personally put about 22,000 miles on this truck.
Comes with lots of spares: two radiators, extra cylinder heads, a four speed gearbox and lots of miscellaneous hardware.
Besides being my commuter, the truck was also used as a test mule for product development.
I parked it two years ago when a connecting rod bearing failed - I had to drive it about seven miles to get it home. I took it out once more to verify a bearing failure, and took it back after a few blocks.
All extra Beechhurst product electronics will be removed. Located in Flushing, Queens, New York. We are moving to Virginia and I just no longer have the time to devote to this vehicle, to get it back to running order.

Report: GM struggling to market turbo technology

In the automotive realm, marketing can sometimes prove just as important as the actual product. Take, for instance, Ford's well regarded EcoBoost technology, which couples turbocharging with direct injection to produce more horsepower and reduce fuel consumption. Would it surprise you to hear that General Motors has had similar technology on the market for over three years?
It's true. GM's first turbocharged, direct injected powerplants hit the market for the 2007 model. The 2.0-liter Ecotec mills put down an impressive 260 horsepower and a matching 260 pound-feet of torque, and they were lauded by the press in the engine bays of the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Chevrolet Cobalt SS and Chevrolet HHR SS. But few people outside a core group of enthusiasts actually remember this fact.
Says Uwe Grebe, executive director of GM's global advanced engineering, "We didn't have a badge and say, 'This is the most important thing we will put on all our brochures.'" Ford, however, did just that, and it's EcoBoost engines are right at the tips of all our tongues when we discuss today's most advanced powerplants. So, how does The General fix its mistake?

Ford cranks up '32 Ford body production

If you're going to build your own hot rod, you'll want to start with a '32 Ford 5-Window Coupe. Favored by American servicemen returning from World War II, the '32 Ford remains the very icon of the hot rod to this day. The trouble is there were only so many of them made in the first place, and finding one today can be a challenge. That's where reproduction models come in.
The aftermarket is replete with companies that will sell you a fiberglass body in the form of a '32 Ford coupe, but quality can be hit or miss. So to help meet demand among hot rod builders and enthusiasts, Ford has teamed up with United Pacific Industries to offer officially licensed body shells.
Announced at the SEMA show in November, the '32 Ford 5-Window Coupe body is made from stamped steel according to original specifications from original machinery where possible or reproduced machinery built to the same original specifications where necessary. The bodies are ready to accept vintage powertrains or crate motors from the Ford Racing catalog, and join the 9,000 other parts offered in the Ford Component Sales catalog - including similar reproduction bodies available for the 1965-70 Mustang and 1940 Ford Coupe. From there, the proverbial sky's the limit.
