Exterior Highlights:  The exterior of the truck features the classic and extremely popular lines of the 1948 Ford Pickup with a laser straight body and spectacular alpine blue base coat clear coat paint.  Please pay close attention to the fit and body lines on this truck, it is not by accident that they are nearly perfect, much better than the original body fit and much better than 99% of them out there. This truck has an all steel body with fiberglass fenders.  The truck is fitted with very cool 16” steelie wheels with new continental radial tires.  The light yellow wheels and grill really set the truck off and give it a very classic look. The truck has a new bed and tailgate with spectacular oak floor with stainless strips (see photos) and has a hinged tailgate. The truck has an excellent stance. There is attention to detail everywhere.  All exterior hardware and chrome are in excellent shape.  This truck gets attention wherever it goes and as can be seen in the pictures has unbelievable curb appeal.  This truck is absolutely show quality from top to bottom and front to back.

Interior Highlights:  The interior of the truck as can be seen in the pictures is show quality as well as very comfortable and practical.  The bench seat features like new beige leather like material for comfortable cruising.  As with the exterior the interior has attention to detail everywhere with custom headliner, and color keyed door panels that really compliments the quality of the interior.  This truck is equipped with vintage heat and defrost.  The dash is color keyed as well with very slick paint and has a very clean look with vintage heat controls, and a full compliment of VDO gauges.  The truck is also equipped with all new glass and weather stripping, nothing was left undone on this build.  The vehicle is equipped with 2 speed electric wipers.  The vehicle has a very comfortable steering wheel on a tilt column.  The interior is complete with carpeting, and floor mats that are in excellent shape.  Overall the interior is in show quality.

Mechanical Highlights:  Mechanically this truck is equipped with a very cool Flathead V8 with two dueces.  This truck was completed 2 1/2 years ago and everything was gone through during the build.  The flathead motor was completely rebuilt and detailed, it starts without hesitation and runs like a sewing machine.  The truck is equipped with a full flow oil system. The engine compartment is like the rest of the vehicle, show ready and very impressive.  Now for all of the stuff you hope this truck has, 12 volt conversion, front disc brakes, rebuilt 5-speed transmission that shifts smoothly and really adds to the sporty feel of the truck.  The truck is also equipped with the very popular ford 9” rear end.  The vehicle has a Toyota steering box that really adds to the quality feel of this truck.  This vehicle is equipped with monoleaf springs in the front, and posies rear springs. 2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

Bill Ford op-ed argues we can't just build and sell more of the same cars

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

It's hardly a secret that the auto industry is undergoing an enormous, tectonic shift in the way it thinks, builds cars and does business. Between alternative forms of energy, a renewed focus on low curb weights and aerodynamic bodies, the advent of driverless and autonomous cars and the need to reduce the our impact on the environment, it's very likely that the car that's built 10 years down the line will be scarcely recognizable when parked next to the car from 10 years ago.
Few people are as able to explain the industry's many upcoming changes and challenges as clearly as William Clay Ford, Jr., better known as Bill Ford. The 57-year-old currently sits as the executive chairman of the company his great-grandfather, Henry Ford, founded over 110 years ago.
In an op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal (subscription required), Ford explains that the role of automakers is, necessarily, going to change to suit the needs of the future world. That means changing the view of not just the automobile, but the automaker. As Ford explains it, automakers will "move from being just car and truck manufacturers to become personal-mobility companies."

Ford, Volvo top 2014 EyesOn Design awards

Fri, 17 Jan 2014

Each year at the Detroit Auto Show, the top vehicle designs are recognized with the prestigious EyesOn Design award for production and concept vehicles. This year, the 32 EyesOn Design judges (comprised of current and former vehicle designers including Chrysler designer and SRT president Ralph Gilles, Kia designer Peter Schreyer and retired General Motors designer Wayne Cherry) handed out three awards for the Best Concept Vehicle, Best Production Vehicle and Innovative Use of Color, Graphics, and Materials.
Beating out the Mercedes C-Class and Ford F-150, the 2015 Ford Mustang was named the Best Production Vehicle as the top auto show debut at this year's Detroit show. The 2014 Volvo Concept XC Coupe took home awards as the Best Concept Vehicle and for its Innovative Use of Color, Graphics and Materials.
Considering the Volvo's primer grey hue and subtle orange accents, it was a rather surprising winner for Innovative Use of Color, Graphics, and Materials over flashier concepts like the Toyota FT-1 and our Editors' Choice top pick, the Kia GT4 Stinger. Other vehicles in the running for the concept car award include the GT4 Stinger and Audi Allroad Shooting Brake
