1966 Ford Mustang GT coupe with pony interior. I have owned this car for the last 15 years, I purchased it with the intentions of doing a ground up restoration but just never got around to it so I have decided to offer it for sale. This Mustang is a true GT from the light bar grill to the exhaust trumpets. This car has all of it's original metal from the ground up and has never been modified, wrecked, restored, or molested in any way. The only rust that I am aware of is in the driver door front in the wide white stripe and it could be covered with two quarters. This car was purchased new in California and remained there the first 22 years of it's life. In 1988 the original owner gave it to his son for a wedding present and it was driven back to Kansas where it sat in a garage for approximately 10 years. I purchased the Mustang in 1998 from the son and it has sat in a garage for the last 15 years.  This is an amazing survivor, to be 47 years old, with 79,067 actual miles, still wearing it's original emberglow paint and emberglow and parchment pony interior. The paint is worn through in spots from washing and buffing, and the interior is starting to show wear. A few years back I purchased a complete set of new pony seat covers because I was concerned that this color would be discontinued. These covers were never installed and will go with the car. The body over all is very straight, the worst place is on the driver front fender and looks like something fell against it and left a crease. There are a few other minor scrapes, scratches and dings one would expect on a car that was on the road for 22 years. All of the glass is in excellent condition and appears to be factory tinted. On the interior, the headliner has a hole in it, the original dash pad does not have any cracks, the door panels do not have any cracks, the carpets still look very good, both bucket seats have seams that have opened up, and the back seat looks like it has never been sat in. The dash is complete with all the gauges still intact and the original AM radio still in place. As you can tell from the pictures this car has a full console and a Rally Pac (tachometer and clock). The pony wood grain steering wheel does not have any separation from setting in the sun. The car still has it's original styled steel factory wheels with trim rings and centers. As you can tell from the pictures, the underside of this car is in great condition including the frame rails, trunk drops, floor pans, shock towers, trunk floors, battery area, and the car has never been undercoated. This Mustang is still powered by it's original 289CI / 225HP 4 barrel engine and it's C-4 automatic transmission. The carburetor is still the 4100 Ford  original. Through the years the engine has been started at least once a year. Due to long term storage the car is currently not road worthy. I can start it with a can of starting fluid and a jump box so potential buyers can hear it run, but it will not pull itself onto a trailer. The brakes are not working, and the tires are over 15 years old, and the mufflers are starting to show their age.  This is an excellent example of an early GT equipped original Mustang with a very rare low production color combination that with very little effort can be returned to it's original legendary showroom condition. I have tried to describe this Mustang to the best of my ability but have probably missed something that you need to know, if so just ask. If you would like to inspect this car prior to the end of the auction, again, just ask and arrangements will be made.  Please do not ask if I have a buy it now price, because I do not. Since I do not know how much this car is worth I am hoping Ebay will help determine that. This car has a good Missouri title. The winning bidder will not be disappointed. The buyer will be responsible for all transportation costs if required.

40+ cars that barely avoid the gas guzzler tax

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.

Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.

Watch this lead sled go rallying in Finland

Thu, 19 Jun 2014

Custom cars generally fit into neat little boxes in terms of how they are used. For example, you're unlikely to see a modded Corvette going rock crawling; it's just not what it's made for (though we bet it'd look awesome, for a minute). In the same way, chopped, channeled and customized '50s hot rods aren't really meant to go racing. They look great and go fast, but they are generally more cruisers than sports cars.
However, if this video is any indication, the people of Finland don't adhere in these stereotypes, because this rodder is happy to play in the dirt with his lead sled.
According to the video, the driver is a member of the Ford-Freak Club of Finland, and he clearly knows how to have some fun. Possibly inspired by his country's great rally drivers, he gets the tail way out going around this gently curving gravel track. The stunt is somewhat reminiscent of the stock cars races on the sand at Daytona Beach, and this is probably close to what it sounded like too. Scroll down to watch a very cool Finn getting his hot rod a little dirty.
