This Mustang has 93000 miles on it. It was sold locally when new to a woman. I bought it 10 years ago from the 2nd owner (I believe). I later met the lady that bought it originally in a local parking lot. The man that I bought it from originally bought it for his son, who was in college. There was an argument a couple months after it was bought. The son had put a tachometer, exhaust cutouts, and huge tires on the back of it. The son told his father that he was getting it ready to drag race. The father got angry because the car was in his name, and it wasn't going to be abused. It never made it to the drag strip, as the father took it away from his son immediately. The father bought his son an old Toyota Corolla to drive to school, and told him that it was not to be altered in any way. After I bought it I had one of the cutouts taken off at a muffler shop, because it was hitting on the frame. I have left the dash mounted tachometer in place, because I didn't want to mess with taking it off.  I have driven this Mustang less than 15000 miles in the 10 years I have owned it. It was never driven in the winter by me. I am 68 years old and don't hot rod it, But it seems very fast, and I can pass cars on the highway very quickly if needed. The engine has Mobil 1 oil in it. It has a minor engine oil leak, but seldom drips. The valve cover, and intake manifold gasket have been recently replaced. About a year ago, I took it to a car wash to wash it. When I left the wash stall, the sun was in my eyes. I couldn't see well and bumped a brick wall that the  vacuum cleaner was mounted on. I was going very slowly, no faster that walking speed when I hit the wall. The owner was standing 3 feet from the wall, and was watching me. He said that he waved his arms at me, but I couldn't see him either. Anyway it didn't look to bad, and I drove it for a week until the parts came in. It was repaired by the town's best body shop. I could believe that it cost $3600 to repair it. Anyway I have always loved the car, and hate to sell it but I can't afford to maintain and insure all I have. The car starts, runs, and drives great. It gets about 20-21 miles to the gallon on the highway. The air conditioner blows cold, and has ever since I bought it. The condenser wasn't damaged when wrecked and still holds possibly the original Freon. I think everything works except the passenger P D Lock. The trunk is clean and the spare and jack are all in place. I don't think there is any rust on it anywhere. It isn't a show car, by a long way. It could use having the seat upholstery cleaned. I put sheepskin covers on it right after I bought it. This car is basically stock, with a few improvements.  The speedometer needle is erratic until about 20 miles an hour, and then works great. The tires are getting close to need replaced, and there is some thin paint on the rear of the car. The front paint is all new. I have maintained this car well  since I have had it. It does have a few rattles with the windows part of the way down. I need $500 WITHIN 4 DAYS OF IT BEING SOLD. This is non refundable. The balance within a week, and the car picked up within 2 weeks. Please phone me for additional information after 6 PM and on weekend. I have done a lot of things to this car that I didn't list. It is drivable anywhere. I don't get to my email very quickly, so you may have to wait a day or 2. Call JERRY at 208-284-6082.

Ford announces first non-pursuit-rated police car ever

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Ford announced its first non-pursuit-rated Police Interceptor ever, based on the Taurus, which employs the smaller 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine in place of similar pursuit-rated Police Interceptors powered by naturally aspirated 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter V6s and the top-spec 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Officially called the Special Service Police sedan, the car was commissioned at the request of law-enforcement agencies that desire a more fuel-efficient vehicle for detectives, administrators and campus police, who don't necessarily need pursuit-rated vehicles.
The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine produces 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, but more importantly, it allows the SSP sedan to achieve somewhere in the neighborhood of 22 miles per gallon city and 32 mpg highway, which are the civilian 2.0-liter Taurus' official EPA ratings. Ford estimates that the SSP sedan will get 20 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined, with the help of Active Grille Shutters that open to allow more cooling air through to the radiator, or close to optimize aerodynamics and fuel economy. Those numbers compare favorably to the discontinued Crown Victoria-based Interceptor's 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway and the newer Taurus-based cars equipped with V6s, the most fuel efficient of which gets 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.
If it was driven 90,000 miles over the course of three years, a 2.0-liter SSP sedan would save law enforcement agencies $5,042.92 versus the Crown Vic, Ford estimates. The EPA is expected to post official fuel-economy numbers for the SSP sedan in December. Until then, read the press release below for more information.

J Mays on the 2015 Ford Mustang

Thu, 05 Dec 2013

J Mays, head of design at Ford, may be retiring from the company after 16 years, but not before showing the world his swan song: the 2015 Mustang. Ford officially revealed its new coupe and convertible to the public at events around the world on Thursday, including a live unveiling on ABC's Good Morning America, and Mays was in attendance at the automaker's home event in Dearborn, MI, which is where we caught up with him for a few words about his new baby.
"It's a joy" to design the Mustang, Mays told Autoblog, adding that this sixth-generation coupe is his "favorite design so far." Of course, the 2015 model takes cues from all of the generations that came before it, but Mays said it was important to edit down the specific elements from previous models, leaving just enough off to let the customer "participate and fill in the blanks."
"If it doesn't sell itself, you probably aren't a Mustang fan."

Ford F-250 boots Cadillac Escalade from atop thieves' most-wanted list

Tue, 09 Jul 2013

The Ford F-Series has been America's best-selling truck for decades, but along with the good comes the bad, apparently. In addition to being popular with consumers, the Highway Loss Data Institute notes that the F-Series Super Duty has risen in popularity among thieves. Based on its new study, the four-wheel drive crew cab F-250 Super Duty has topped the list for the country's highest rate of insurance theft claims, knocking the Cadillac Escalade from the top spot - a distinction the luxury SUV has held since this annual report was first established in 2003.
To reach its findings, HLDI looks at theft data from the previous three model years (in this case 2010-2012) to determine the frequency of claims for a particular make and mode,l as well as the average payment per claim. As the report points out, the claims aren't always for the theft of the entire vehicle - they can include components (say, wheels and tires) or property taken from the vehicle. At seven claims per 1,000 insured vehicles, the F-250 is six times more likely to suffer a theft claim than the average vehicle.
The Cadillac likely dropped from the top of the list to sixth due to additional theft-prevention features including a steering wheel lock and inclination sensor for the alarm, but GM's other fullsize trucks and SUVs still occupy eight of the list's 10 spots. Some of the least stolen vehicles with below-average loss payments include the Lexus HS250h, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and Dodge Journey. Head on over to the HLDI's website for the full list that shows the most and least popular vehicles among thieves from 2010 through 2012.
