Up for grabs is a 1989 Saleen SSC, serial number 100. I purchased this car late last year from a Director of the Saleen Club of America who had spent the previous few years restoring the car into what you see today. Since I purchased it, I have only put around 200 miles on it and as of the day of listing this car, it has 39,415 original miles. The car is in really nice shape for a 25-year-old car and would be a great opportunity to own a rare SSC that can be occasionally driven as well as taken to car shows. The mileage may change slightly as the weather is nice in Dallas and there are a ton of car shows this summer that I may attend.

The previous owner did plenty of work making this car one of the nicest SSC’s on the market. The car has had all fluids including the brake and differential fluid replaced. The original grooved SSC rotors are still in place and are in good shape. The car has had the smog pump assembly deleted and has an off road x pipe running through Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers with chrome Bassani exhaust pipes which look and sound great. (Very aggressive sound) I actually have the original SSC “trumpet” exhaust tips and will include them with the car when purchased. A previous owner replaced the original shocks/struts with Koni adjustable units as the original Monroe Cockpit Adjustable units were prone to failure and replacement parts were /are impossible to find.  I have never bothered to charge the AC system but the previous owner believed that is all that would be needed to have it working…the heater works fine. The car will come with (2) sets of Saleen floor mats, I have the originals put away and had a very nice set of repro mats made for day to day use that actually look nicer than the originals. The car also will come with (2) sets of wheels and tires. The stock set of 16” white DP5 wheels will be included and they have some decent tires on them, the car currently has the ultra desirable 17” Stern 3 piece wheels with nice BFG tires. These Sterns are the very hard to find correct offsets for a foxbody and I see both the Stern’s and the DP5’s sell all the time for upwards of $3000 for a set…this car comes with BOTH SETS! The factory roll bar is in place and has a nice billet aluminum fire extinguisher mount and white fire extinguisher.

Next is the list of items that the previous owner replaced in the few years prior to my purchase, I have a binder that is close to 3 inches thick with receipts and invoices for the vast majority of these items: New Eibach springs, New Prothane spring isolators, New Ford quad shocks, New Prothane sway bar and end link bushings, NOS Carlite windshield, New correct Carlite quarter windows, New belt moldings, New Ford cowel vent, New wiper arms, New door and hatch weather stripping, New drip rail moldings, New drivers side door handle, NOS Ford 6 piece head light assembly, New door speaker grills, New door bezels, New scuff plates, NOS Ford fan and clutch assembly, NOS Ford radiator over flow tank and cap, New Ford distributor cover, New coil cover, NOS Saleen emissions label on coil cover, New Ford IAC, New TPS, NOS Ford belt tensioner, New serpentine belt, Fresh powder coating on original intake, NOS Ford radiator brackets, NOS Ford hood latch, New Ford hood release cable, Like New filter box and air intake tube, NOS MAF bracket, New power steering pump and cap, New Ford radiator hoses, NOS Ford battery cables (original lead style), New water pump, New MSD plug wires, New front brake lines, New Centerforce clutch assembly, New Ford clutch fork, New clutch fork pivot stud, New Ford clutch cable, New Ford speedometer cable, New Ford speed sensor, New Hurst shifter, Original World Class T-5 was professionally rebuilt, New oil level sensor, New parking brake assembly, New pedal pads, New Ford hatch release button, New Ford fuel tank release button, New master cylinder cover gasket, New valve cover gaskets, New Ford ashtray, New Ford cigarette lighter, New lumbar bulbs, New seat side handles, New Ford window and door lock switch plates, as well as the instrument cluster was professionally serviced to ensure all gauges functioned properly. Invoices total over $7,000!

The factory audio system was something that I upgraded as the factory speakers had all deteriorated and sounded awful. The new audio system consists of an iPhone lighting connector providing audio out and charging for the iPhone/iPod and then is running the signal through a JL Audio remote volume control. The signal then passes through an Audio Control 2XS electronic crossover and on to a pair of sweet old school Zapco Studio 150 amps. The rear sound enclosure has been retrofitted to house two Kicker 8” Subs being powered by one of the Studio 150 amps and the other Studio 150 powers a set of Zapco Shallow mount 6.5” components in the doors and tweeters in the stock dash locations. The rare Pioneer DEH55 CD player and EQ-4000 are still in the dash however they have been bypassed. CD players were cool in 1989…not in 2014! I will include the stock Pioneer GM3000 amp that came in the car in the sale, but I am not sure if it works or not. I have to admit, the system sounds great when the car is parked, but the lope of the cam and the exhaust makes it a bit difficult to hear when on the road. The 5.0 creates its own music for sure.

Once again, this is probably one of the nicest SSC for sale in the U.S. and these cars get more rare every day. Please manage your expectations however, the car is 25 years old with close to 40K miles, it is not a time capsule, mint, rotisserie restored, or some trailer queen that you should be afraid to breathe on.  There were only 161 of these made..you can own #100! Value will only go up! The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the listing at any time.

****6/28/2014 6:45CST  I thought I would answer questions in the listing description itself so that eBay app users could see the Q & A's as well.

-Ever had any body damage to your knowledge? The past owner did not think it has ever had any body damage however it looks like it may have had the hatch repainted some time ago and was blended in. I only say that because that paint on the hatch looks at little too perfect and Ford was/is not known for nice paint jobs.

-Lien free title in your name? Yes, I have the Blue Texas Title in hand. There are no Liens on the car.

-Does the car leak any fluids or burn any oil? As with most 5.0's of this age it does leak a tiny amount of oil. I would say a couple drops a month. I have a piece of plastic under the car that catches any leaks, and it does not drop much. It does not burn any oil at all.

-Do the windows, door locks, remote hatch all work? Yes, all those electrical items work as they should.

Fiat boss Elkann being mentored by... Bill Ford?

Tue, 26 Mar 2013

Fiat Chairman John Elkann has been turning to an unusual source for advice on the car business. While speaking during an interview with The Detroit News, Elkann said he often asks Bill Ford Jr. for advice on how to proceed with the turnaround at Chrysler. "It's great to have the opportunity to share this with someone like Bill, who has experienced many things and gone through many things ... especially linked to Detroit." Elkann said.
As the Agnelli family heir, Elkann has inherited a long and fruitful friendship with the Ford family. While Giovanni Agnelli built his first Fiat four years before Henry Ford created his first vehicle, it was Ford that showed Agnelli the benefits of mass production and helped pave the way for what would become the Fiat empire.
Giovanni's grandson, Gianni, helped mentor Bill Ford when he was elected chairman of Ford Motor Company. Now, Ford is returning the favor by helping Elkann navigate the automotive industry's tumultuous waters.

Would a Mustang-based Lincoln look like this?

Mon, 07 Jan 2013

Designer Josiah LaCalla has taken a stab at what a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln model might look like with the Continental Mark X1 concept. Make no mistake, Ford's luxury arm has made it abundantly clear that it won't be pursuing any new products outside of volume models, which means a flashy halo grand tourer like the one you see here isn't in the cards. LaColla used the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as a basis for his creation, which explains the long nose, but we certainly don't mind the idea of a rear-wheel drive Lincoln with a cabin pushed to the aft.
While we're dreaming, there's certainly nothing stopping us from imagining what's under that lengthy hood. We like the idea of the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 from the Shelby GT500 pushing the Mark X1 down the road, but how about something a little more inventive? Something like a high-revving, buttery V12 with enough torque to push the contraption well past 200 miles per hour. Dream a little dream, people.

The history and future of the Ford Bronco

Tue, 17 Jun 2014

Some have suggested that the Bronco's demise was hastened by the fallout from the O.J. trial.
Twenty years ago today, ex-NFL linebacker Al "A.C." Cowlings drove his friend and onetime running back Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson on a parade lap of the Los Angeles highway system and onto an ignoble page of the history books. If you're in your late 20s or older, or a fastidious young student of 1990s American history, you're absolutely aware that Al and O.J.'s steed for the 'chase' was a white Ford Bronco. The white Ford Bronco, even.
