1989 Mustang 5.0 LX Convertible Red with a black top and red interior.  This is a 25th Anniversary model, it does have the original dash anniversary badge.  The interior is original and most of the paint is as well.  It looks like the red bellow the Black trim has been done at some time due to rock chips and the passenger side fender since it looks more like base coat clear there.  The underside is exceptionally clean, there is no rust that I have come across in the last 8 years of owning it.  I have done a lot of work on the car and been through about every square inch of the car.  When it was bought, I gutted the inside cleaning as I went.  The paint has been buffed out and cleaned up very well unfortunately an owner prior to me didn't know how to use the buffer and burned through the edges on the fender/hood areas and trunk quarter areas.  It still looks great for original 25 year old paint with 103k miles.  This car is not a perfect show car, but it is a great cruiser and will still do well at your local car show.  I bought it with 102k on it and it now has 103k, needless to say I have spent more time building it up to the way it is than I have driving it 8 years and about 1,000 miles.  I have probably spent close to $10,000 by the time I add up all of the receipts.  My last thing that I wanted to do was upgrade the braking system while keeping it 4 lug since I have the set of Pony's on it that I redid when I bought it.  Here is a list of most of what has been done to the car since I have owned it, there is the general maintainace items as well.

  • Flowmaster Force II Exhaust System with Polished Stainless Tips
  • BBK Cat X-Pipe with new o2 Sensors
  • Edelbrock Equal Length Ceramic coated Shorty Headers
  • Stage 8 Locking Header bolts
  • BBK 65MM Throttle Body and EGR Spacer
  • C&L MAF Sensor and Intake Tube
  • FRPP Cold Air Intake
  • FRPP Strut Tower Brace
  • KYB Front Struts and Rear Shocks
  • Rebuilt Steering Rack
  • Prothane Red Engine and Transmission Mounts
  • Refinished 16" Pony Wheels and General Exclaim UHP Tires
  • FRPP Spark Plug Wires, new plugs, Accell Cap & Rotor
  • New Radiator hoses and 180 deg Thermostat
  • New Black Pinpoint (Style used on new cars) Convertible Top
  • Convertible Top Cylinder and system bled
  • New Ford Battery Cables
  • New Headlight, turn signal and parking light kit
  • Reflective Mustang Bumper inlays and custom Mustang 3rd brake light overlay

If you want to take a look at the car please feel free to get in touch with me.  I do have it listed locally and have the right to end the auction early if it is sold prior to the end of the auction.  This is a binding contract.

Most of the mustang fox problems have been taken care of, it is ready to drive.  My wife and I were talking about it today and we both agreed that it is a great car that we need to let go since we just don't have time to drive it.  If you are interested bid to win it is a clean car, don't waste my time if you're here screwing around.

Martin Smith retires, Joel Piaskowski in as Ford Europe design chief

Thu, 29 May 2014

The mind behind the look of much of the modern Ford global range is retiring. Martin Smith, Head of Ford Design in Europe, will give up his position on July 1 and will leave the company altogether at the end of the year. He will be replaced by current Strategic Concepts Group leader Joel Piaskowski (pictured above).
Smith has led Ford of Europe design for the past 10 years, and he was partially responsible for the brand's Kinetic Design language with a large grille and swept-back headlights found on the Focus, Fiesta and C-Max, as well as several other vehicles abroad. After stepping down on July 1 until his retirement at the end of 2014, Smith will work on a project to decide the future direction of the company's look with Moray Callum, its vice president of design.
Piaskowski already has some impressive credentials in terms of automotive design as well. He joined Ford in 2010 as director of exterior design and led the teams responsible for the 2015 Ford Mustang and next-generation F-150. He was also previously design director at Ford Asia Pacific. Before working at the Blue Oval, Piaskowski held positions at Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and General Motors. Scroll down to read the complete announcement of this changing of the guard.

Rising aluminum costs cut into Ford's profit

Wed, Jan 24 2018

When Ford reports fourth-quarter results on Wednesday afternoon, it is expected to fret that rising metals costs have cut into profits, even as rivals say they have the problem under control. Aluminum prices have risen 20 percent in the last year and nearly 11 percent since Dec. 11. Steel prices have risen just over 9 percent in the last year. Ford uses more aluminum in its vehicles than its rivals. Aluminum is lighter but far more expensive than steel, closing at $2,229 per tonne on Tuesday. U.S. steel futures closed at $677 per ton (0.91 metric tonnes). Republican U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is weighing whether to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which could push prices even higher. Ford gave a disappointing earnings estimate for 2017 and 2018 last week, saying the higher costs for steel, aluminum and other metals, as well as currency volatility, could cost the company $1.6 billion in 2018. Ford shares took a dive after the announcement. Ford Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks told analysts at a conference in Detroit last week that while the company benefited from low commodity prices in 2016, rising steel prices were now the main cause of higher costs, followed by aluminum. Shanks said the automaker at times relies on foreign currencies as a "natural hedge" for some commodities but those are now going in the opposite direction, so they are not working. A Ford spokesman added that the automaker also uses a mix of contracts, hedges and indexed buying. Industry analysts point to the spike in aluminum versus steel prices as a plausible reason for Ford's problems, especially since it uses far more of the expensive metal than other major automakers. "When you look at Ford in the context of the other automakers, aluminum drives a lot of their volume and I think that is the cause" of their rising costs, said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at auto consultancy LMC Automotive. Other major automakers say rising commodity costs are not much of a problem. At last week's Detroit auto show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne reiterated its earnings guidance for 2018 and held forth on a number of topics, but did not mention metals prices. General Motors Co gave a well-received profit outlook last week and did not mention the subject. "We view changes in raw material costs as something that is manageable," a GM spokesman said in an email.

2015 Ford F-150 spied in the rain

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

Standing as quite a contrast from the spy shots of the 2015 Ford Mustang we saw earlier today, our spies also sent along these pictures of the next-generation F-150 pickup out testing in its (heavily camouflaged) full prototype body. Much of the new truck's design is hidden under the bulky coveralls, but we expect a lot of its new lines to be inspired by the Atlas concept that debuted at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Perhaps the biggest unknown surrounding the new F-150 is what, exactly, its body will be made of. Earlier reports have suggested that lightweight aluminum materials may be used throughout, offering a serious reduction in weight versus previous models. But Ford engineers will need to be careful, though, as they need to keep a tight rein on costs while preserving class-competitive (if not class-leading) towing and payload capacity.
On the powertrain front, the new F-150 will undoubtedly carry on with EcoBoost engines, and we'd bet on a normally aspirated V8 as well. A diesel option hasn't been confirmed, but we wouldn't be surprised to see one some time in the truck's lifecycle. Mum's the word on when the production F-150 will be revealed, but our best guess is that we'll see it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
