Up for auction is an 1988 GT convertible project car that I did not finish. This car was a parts donor for a kit car. I bought the body because my 89 Mustang had substantial rust. This is an excellent RUNNING project with a nearly new mechanical drivetrain. I have a lot of money wrapped up in parts and work. I have too many projects and this one was selected to go. The car is a clean rust free Texas car with a clean title. The previous owner painted it a horrible red with sprinkled on metal flake. The paint needs to be redone. The body is good with a minor damage to the bottom of the passenger door (see pictures) and the inner fender well was previously damage (see pictures). Other than those areas the body is clean. The frame to the top and hydraulics are all there. I do not know if the hydraulics work. The luggage rack on the trunk is missing. The windshield needs replaced. Most of the emissions is removed, however, the car is 25 years old this year. Now lets get to the good things about this car:
The engine has about 25,000 on major rebuild, World Products Windsor JR heads, Harland Sharp full roller rockers, Ford Motorsport "E" cam, Speed Pro .30 over pistons, 1.5/8 mandrel shorty headers, Melling oil pump and Ford Motorsport street/strip clutch and pressure plate. Engine has stock intake and injectors. Mass air computer and harness came from '89 GT.
The T-5 transmission was rebuilt with new seals, bearings, syncros, 1-2 slider gear, and steel bearing retainer. About 20,000 miles. Rebuilt after engine rebuild.
Traction lock rear diff with 3.55 gears.
All four rear control arms are enclosed/boxed with new rubber bushings. Also, the mounting points on the car are wire welded for strength.
The front control arms have new Energy Suspension urethane bushings and new ball joints. New Energy Suspension urethane bushings in rack and pinion.
The factory convertible bracing/stiffening brackets were riveted and loose. They are now wire welded in place and rigid.
Steeda subframe connectors were also added and welded in place.
Eibach Pro Kit 3510.140 variable rate springs at all four corners.
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, new, less than 10 miles.
Oversized aluminum Griffin radiator
new fuel sending unit
Hooker Aerochamber mufflers and exhaust. 2.5 inch from headers to back bumper. no cats.
This car runs and drives as is but is NOT street ready. The dash, interior, and wire harness needs finished. I have many extra parts, too many to list. Interior, body skirts, glass, dash etc. Everything I have goes with the car. The car originally had a red interior. I started installing the gray interior out of my old '89. I do not have the original red seats. The engine and transmission have 20,000 to 25,000 miles. The suspension bushings, fuel pump, and sending unit are brand new when I put the car together. This car will make a great car for someone to finish. Big things the car needs; windshield, fabric top, paint, carpet and luggage rack for trunk. The engine runs strong, no noise or smoke. It puts out 55-60 lbs of oil pressure on mechanical gauge. I will test the compression and post the results soon. Please contact me with any question. My reserve is well below the value in parts alone. I can deliver up to 300 miles from my location at a rate of $1.25 per mile (calculated one-way).
On May-24-13 at 14:04:28 PDT, seller added the following information:
As you can see, much of what is left of the fabric top was cut away by the previous owner. The frame is there as well as the hydraulics which I have not wire up and tried. The top lift easily and freely. The pump and cylinders are in place but disconnected. The compression test is #6 cylinder 135 psi, all others 150-152 psi.

Bronco, Yukon, Hummer and a CES recap | Autoblog Podcast #610
Fri, Jan 17 2020In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski and Assistant Editor Zac Palmer. They kick things off by talking about recent news, including the revival of the Hummer name as an electric pickup, revealing Ford Bronco spy shots and the unveiling of the 2021 GMC Yukon. Then Zac tells about his time in Las Vegas attending CES 2020. They talk about the cars they've been driving: a JCW-tuned Mini Clubman, the long-term Subaru Forester with its new gold wheels, a Volvo S60 PHEV that's been added to the long-term fleet, and a Camry Hybrid. Last, but not least, they help a listener decide how to spend his money on a sports car. Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k
Tue, 07 Oct 2014Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.
Need for Speed movie casts Mustang in hero car role
Mon, 10 Jun 2013Dreamworks Studios, Electronic Arts and Ford Motor Company announced today that the Ford Mustang will play the lead hero car role in the upcoming Need for Speed movie, slated to hit theaters next February. Of course, the Mustang didn't audition for the role like we imagine the film's star, Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame, might have. Rather, Ford and Dreamworks struck a partnership deal that meant the Mustang could skip the casting couch. The deal will also see the film's universe populated with other Ford products (gratuitously so, we're guessing), and the automaker will also help the studio promote the video-game-turned-movie next year.
The hero car in question is a special one-off Mustang created by Ford that is making its debut at the E3 video game trade show as we speak. Powered by a supercharged V8 and apparently based on the Shelby GT500, the car's been modified with a widebody kit, 22-inch wheels, larger air intakes and twin hood nostrils. Ford also provided the film's production with an F-450 truck that will be called "The Beast" in the film's story, and a second Mustang to be used during filming as a camera car.
The Mustang's movie career is really taking off, with news of its Need For Speed casting closely following last week's release of the trailer for Getaway, a movie coming out in August that stars Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez and another Shelby GT500. In addition to Aaron Paul and a modified Mustang, the Need For Speed movie also stars Michael Keaton (cop, we're guessing) and Dominic Cooper (villain, we're guessing), and is directed by Scott Waugh, who directed the Navy SEAL film Act of Valor in 2012.
