Hello everyone.  Up for bids is my 1987 Saleen Mustang.  It is car number 87-186.  It is finished in the original 1D dark grey and was painted about 6 years ago.   This Mustang wears all of its original VIN tagged sheet metal.  Never wrecked.  NOS quarter windows were replaced after the re paint.  Originals were faded pretty bad.  All of the Saleen specific parts are with the car.  I have done a few performance enhancing upgrades since I have owned it.  The engine is original but the cylinder heads have been replaced with 1995 vintage Lightning GT 40 type.  The intake manifold is an Explorer GT 40 type.  The valvetrain has 1.7 roller rockers.  Exhaust is Ford Motorsport headers going in to a NOS original catalytic convertor H-pipe and 2 1/2 inch Flowmaster cat back system with polished tail pipes. All of the original emissions and thermactor pieces are on the car and functional.  Passed a smog check in Las Vegas NV a couple of years ago with no problems.   The rear axle has a 3.27 gear.  Tires are 5 years old and are BF Goodrich G-Force KDW.  They have about 10k miles on them.

The interior is in Good condition with some fading on the drivers seat side bolster.   Has all of the original interior pieces.  The original Kenwood has been replaced by a later model and looks very close to the original.  I have the original Kenwood stereo.  This Saleen runs and drives great.  I got 25 mpg on a trip to Las Vegas this past spring.  Was shown at the Mustang 50th Anniversary show in Las Vegas.   This is a very nice example of a foxbody Saleen that I get compliments on every time I drive it.

Forgot to mention that all of the accessories including power windows and locks are in working condition.  The A/C  blows cold.  The discrepancy on the odometer reading is a result of the state of New Mexico not adding a 1 for the 100k.  The car shouldn't be dinged from Autocheck for that but it is what it is.   I have other pics available too if interested.

Also I have a copy of the Marti report.  I can send a copy to anyone interested.  It shows being ordered through Damerow Ford in Beaverton Oregon.  The car has both the Saleen buck tag and Ford buck tag on the core support.  The Saleen has absolutely NO RUST.  Has been in a desert environment most of its life.

Honda giving away free Civics in Forza Horizon to celebrate launch

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Just a friendly reminder from Honda: The Honda Challenge Pack DLC is now available for Forza Horizon. To reward you for the trouble of pressing a few buttons on your Xbox controller, you'll get the 2013 Honda Civic Coupe, an HPD Rally Fit and a 1986 Honda Civic Si Coupe in your garage, and you'll get them free. The event of the new DLC has also kicked off a photo contest that will reward someone with an Xbox 360 console wrapped in a Honda Civic Si theme.
Otherwise, the word "Challenge" keeps coming up because of the chance to run an online race against IndyCar driver Scott Dixon. The track for that digital throwdown has already been decided by Xbox players who voted before January 8. Yet it's not too late to hop into the Honda section in Xbox Live and lay down a time fast enough for a shot at the title "The Driver That Shellacked Scott Dixon," and meeting the man in person.
Check out the press release from Honda below, and the sweetness that is the 1986 Civic Si in the gallery above.

IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013

Wed, 02 Jan 2013

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.

Car companies used to cook up sales with recipe books

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

The evolution of automotive marketing has undergone a number of strange phases. Few, though, match the strangeness of the 1930s to 1950s, when automotive marketers turned to cookbooks as a means of promoting their vehicles. Yes, cookbooks. We can't make this stuff up, folks.
This bizarre trend led to General Motors distributing cookbooks under the guise of its then-subsidiary Frigidaire. Ford, meanwhile, offered a compilation of recipes from Ford Credit Employees (shown above). The cookbook-craze wasn't limited to domestic manufacturers, though. As The Detroit News discovered, both Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen got in on the trend, although not until the 1970s.
The News has the full story on this strange bit of marketing. Head over and take a look.
