For sale is a 1969 Mustang Mach 1.  I have owned for 20 years.  It has all the original panels and had a complete rotisserie restoration about 8 years ago. This car originally came from Georgia in the mid 80's so had very little rust which has all been professionally repaired. This is an original very rare 1969 Champane Gold Mach 1 with a 351 Windsor and a manual transmission. Over $19,000 was spent on parts which I have receipts for. All wearable parts were replaced.  After it was completed it won several first place awards at local shows.  The body had about 75,000 miles on it before it was restored. The odometer was set back to zero when everything was rebuilt. It has about 6,000 miles on it since it was completely rebuilt.

I am the owner of a Mustang restoration business and this is my personal car.  Our website is "Mustangcraftsmen.com".  There are more pictures of the car on that site.  I am also a mechanical engineer and a Master Certified Ford Service Manager. This car was restored as a driver and the chassis is painted with POR 15 which is not concourse correct but provides a durable coating for a driven car and seals out rust.  All internal seams have been rustproofed.  The engine is original and numbers matching. The original manual transmission has been replaced with a Tremec T5 5-speed. The 5 speed conversion and hydraulic clutch cost over $5,000.00. There are some minor modifications to make the car easier to drive and improve power which can be removed if desired. I have been a judge for several Mustang shows and have noticed a lot of '69 Mustang's for sale are not detailed correctly, however this one is.

The following is a list of pertinent information.

Body- All original panels, media blasted and repainted in it's original Champagne Gold in base with clear coat, rotisserie nut and bolt restoration, front spoiler, rear wing, rear window louvers, LED sequential tail lights, Magnum 500 wheels..

Engine - Original 351 W bored .030 over, larger valves, hand ported heads, comp cams extreme energy cam (gives increased power but retains a smooth idle), Pertronix ignitor, Edelbrock 600 CFM carburetor with electic choke, Edelbrok aluminum intake manifold, short Headman headers, Dynomax mufflers and a larger radiator designed for an AC car (avoids overheating).

Transmission - Tremec T5 5-speed, Hurst shift handle, Centerforce clutch and hydraulic clutch mechanism.

Rear Axle - Original 9 inch rebuilt with Ford traction loc, 3.25:1 ratio.

Suspension - All new with grease fittings, larger front sway bar, rear sway bar added and KYB gas shocks.

Interior - All vinyl and carpeting replaced, new chrome plating of plastic on dash and clock bezel (cost $500), modern CD player and stereo (can be replaced with original radio if desired), tachometer on column, and bolt in door glass.

I restored this car to be a reliable driver and it has been driven enough to get all the problems resolved. I have taken it on several 300 mile trips.  This is a 9 out of 10 car.  This was restored to be enjoyed and used as a driver and not a concours show car.  There are minor imperfections in the paint and it shows the use of being driven on summer weekends for the past several years. It could be brought to concours level but would require more detailing.  I rebuilt this to drive and not have to be trailered everywere.  This is a reliable classic Mustang that turns heads but does not require constant repairs like many other classic cars.  When it is stored for the winter it starts right up every spring and is ready to go.  The 5 speed transmission is a joy to drive, the 351 is much faster than stock, and the exhaust has a deep tone without being too loud.

If you would like any more information please email me at beardpa@aol.com or call Paul at 989-860-3948. I also have a car trailer and would consider delivering the car a reasonable distance for an additional fee.

Jay Leno's Garage goes eco with Ricardo HyBoost

Mon, 17 Mar 2014

"Now before you turn away, this is not another boring hybrid car thing..." Despite the slightly defensive introduction from Jay, the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage is actually pretty fascinating. The Ricardo HyBoost is a 2009 Ford Focus that has had a 1.1-liter engine swapped in for the stock 2.0-liter four. That might not get you performance enthusiasts out there fired up, until, that is, you hear that the 1.1L is also fed by both a turbocharger and an electrically driven supercharger for an instant-on "torque-fill" effect. Sounds about right, considering that Ricardo engineering is part of the genius behind the McLaren P1.
Perhaps most exciting of all, the Ricardo folks say that the package should run somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,100. A sort of performance-hybrid that makes sense for the frugal driver and the enthusiast one, then. There's a lot more to the HyBoost, all of which can be seen in the video below.

2015 Ford F-150 gets Power Wheels treatment [w/video]

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

With the introduction of its forthcoming 2015 F-150, Ford is breaking with convention by shifting from steel-intensive construction to aluminum. But what if it weren't made of metal altogether? What if it were made of plastic instead, and packed an electric motor instead of an internal-combustion engine?
Feast your eyes, boys and girls, on the new Power Wheels F-150. Built by Fisher-Price and licensed by Ford, the third-generation ride-on toy started development nine months before the full-size version debuted at the Detroit Auto Show this past January, and is hitting sidewalks and driveways across the country this September.
The Power Wheels F-150 carries a sticker price of $349.99, and there's a special version at Toys R Us with LED headlamps (just like the real F-150) for an extra $10.

Ford to cease Australian automaking operations after 90 years

Thu, 23 May 2013

Ford began manufacturing cars in Australia in 1925 with the Model T. In 2016, Ford will stop manufacturing cars Down Under, including the Falcon and the Territory SUV. Ford Australia CEO Bob Graziano has reportedly confirmed the closure of the company's Broadmeadows assembly plant and the Geelong engine plant, both in the state of Victoria. There will be 650 jobs lost at Broadmeadows, 510 sacrificed at Geelong. Of the roughly 3,000 workers the Blue Oval has in Australia, it's said it will try to retain about 1,000 of them at its R&D and product development facilities.
The writing hasn't just been on the wall, it's been a regular item in all the papers and on Ford's bottom line for years. As recently as 2003, Ford sold nearly 75,000 Falcons, but over the next four years, annual sales dropped by something like 10,000 units, and over the last two years, it has sold less than 20,000 per year. It isn't only Ford that has suffered - sales of the other large, locally produced sedan, the Holden Commodore, have also gone over the precipice, triggering the same kind of angst about Holden's continued existence. Ford is the smallest of Australia's local automakers, Holden and Toyota the others, and has posted losses of $AUD141 million last year ($136M US) and $AUD600 million ($580M US) in the past five years. Graziano said the cost of manufacturing is simply too expensive in the country, twice as high as Europe and three times as high as Asia, and there no way to make a business case for staying in the country.
In January 2012, Ford Australia announced it would stay in the country until at least 2016, but by July of the same year, most outside observers were quietly declaring that 2016 would be the last year of Ford Down Under, and even the speculation was making other observers nervous. Ford received money from the Victorian government last year to aid its refresh of the Falcon and Territory, which will continue on schedule for the 2014 model year. A front- and all-wheel-drive sedan on a global platform is predicted to replace the Falcon, with some other SUV expected to replace the Territory. The company says it still intends to expand its lineup in the country.
