1969 Ford Mustang Fastback 5.0 BOSS 94.7 WCSX Stone Soup Project

This is truly a one-of-a-kind, spirit-of-Detroit collector car. It was built for charity and raffled off by Detroit's Classic Rock Station 94.7 WCSX to benefit The Children's Miracle Network at Beaumont Hospital. All parts and labor were donated by industry leading companies. Based on the fable of "Stone Soup" - where everyone pitches in and you wind up with something wonderful - this project is a reflection of the automotive spirit and hard working nature of Detroit.

They started out with a special Dynacorn 1969 Mustang Fastback shell that was purchased by Ford Motor Company in 2009 and hung on display at SEMA in 2010. Roush donated a 2013 Roush Coyote 5.0RSC 600HP 302L Ford Racing BOSS and the project was set in motion.  Dozens of automotive companies around the Detroit area contributed parts and labor to create a high performance vehicle with the very best components available on the market.

This car was highly publicized and sought after in the months leading up to the raffle. It was featured on display at every major 2012 car cruise in Detroit, including the Woodward Dream Cruise. Acknowledged by Bill Ford and Alan Mulally, this Mustang raised over $130,000 for its cause and raffle tickets were purchased by high profile Detroit celebrities such as Alice Cooper.

Here is a letter from Bill Ford about the Mustang:

Dear Jim,
Wow! The photo you sent of the 575 hp Roush Supercharged '69 Mustang is stunning!
Congratulations to you and the entire WCSX crew behind the Stone Soup Project, as well as all the car enthusiasts, hobbyists, die hards and automotive suppliers who all came together to build this fabulous car from the shell up.
Pulling together for a great cause in this instance, the Children's Miracle Network at Beaumont Children's Hospital is one of the things that makes Detroit a great place to live, work and show our passion for cars. Good luck to all those who purchase raffle tickets in hopes of winning this latest creation from the Motor City!

MY OWN WORDS:

This car has a remanufactured body made for Ford Motor Company in 2009 by Dycorn Inc., an industry leader in remanufacted classic car shells.  This is not an original 1969 Ford Mustang body.  Because of this, the car is titled by Michigan Secretary of State as a 2013 Assembled Vehicle.

This car is is basically a custom built race car with the body of a 1969 Mustang Fastback.  It is absolutely stunnning to look at, and there is enough under the hood to put any regular manufactured sports car to shame.  After driving this car for a few hours, I can say that its the fastest car I've ever been in or will be in my entire life, and I didnt even push it to its limits.  Every single part used to make this car is used on race cars, not street cars.  The person who buys this car is a getting a race car.  The fuel pump hums and the supercharger whistles when its running.  The suspension is so tight, you feel every bump and the tires grip the cement like glue. There is a governor that sets the max RPMs to about 5500, but this engine is designed to redline at least 7000. With a 6 speed manual trans, you can squeel the tires in every gear.

I have a professional appraisal from a local automobile author and historian "Top Hat" John Jendza,  His appraisal of $65,000 is based on the price it would cost to buy all of the parts and components used to build the car.  The Roush engine alone retails for approximately $18,000 and the Dynacorn body about $17,000. Factor in tens of thousands of dollars in labor to build it, and you're looking at a value of nearly $100,000 to reproduce.

This car is not for everyone and it is not perfect.  But if you're looking to buy a brand new race car with super premium parts that looks like a classic muscle car, then this is the car for you!

Automakers donating money, vehicles and supplies to Oklahoma tornado relief effort

Fri, 24 May 2013

Judging by the destruction the Oklahoma City area experienced earlier this week, residents are going to need a lot of help in coming months. Fortunately, a number of automakers - including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Volkswagen, Honda and Toyota - have stepped up to donate money, supplies and vehicles to aid in the recovery and rebuilding processes.
Here's a quick rundown of which automakers have pitched in and what each contributed so far:
Ford Motor Company has donating $250,000 and a Transit Connect to the American Red Cross, and it will match all other donations made to the Red Cross (up to $250,000) using a special URL tied to the latter's website (link here). Additionally, its local Oklahoma dealers have thrown in an extra $150,000 for the United Way and the automaker will be offering an extra $500 toward the purchase of a new Ford vehicle.

Are you a new Ford Mustang SVO? [w/video]

Fri, 16 May 2014

When Ford announced that its 2015 Mustang would arrive with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, three letters came to mind: SVO. While Ford hasn't said a word regarding the rebirth of a Mustang SVO model, this latest set of spy shots shows us something very, very interesting. Allow us to explain.
The Mustang prototype in these photos looks very similar to the GT500 test cars we've spotted before - same bulging hood, aggressive front fascia and air vents aft of the front wheels. What's different, however, is around back. Have a look at the exhaust, and note that instead of the GT500's usual quad pipes, two of the exhaust outlets have been capped off.
Our spies point out that these exhaust outlets could be closed for some sort of emissions testing or another engineering reason, but it's also important to note that the engine and exhaust notes of this car sound completely different from earlier GT500 prototypes. We've got a video below that compares the two.

Bosch fined $57.8 million by DOJ for price fixing and bid rigging

Tue, Mar 31 2015

The US Department of Justice has been investigating bid rigging and price fixing among automotive parts suppliers for years, and so far the agency has leveled nearly $2.5 billion in fines against 34 companies. The latest business to be caught in this ongoing crackdown is Germany's Robert Bosch GmbH (Bosch), the world's largest independent auto component maker, and it agrees to pay a $57.8 million criminal fine to the Feds. According to the DOJ, Bosch has agreed to plead guilty to pricing fixing and bid rigging for spark plugs and oxygen sensors supplied to the former DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors. The rigging is said to have occurred between January 2000 and July 2011. Bosch also allegedly played foul with starter motors sold to Volkswagen from January 2009 until at least June 2010. Bosch and other companies allegedly conspired on the pricing for bids to submit to automakers, and sold the parts at noncompetitive prices. The DOJ filed a one-count felony charge in US District Court for these actions. The company's plea is still subject to court approval, though. Bosch is only the third European company to be charged in this investigation, according to the DOJ. So far, many of the fined businesses have been from Japan, including Takata, NGK and others. Some execs have claimed price-fixing has been the standard operating procedure in the auto parts industry for a long time. Robert Bosch GmbH Agrees to Plead Guilty to Price Fixing and Bid Rigging on Automobile Parts Installed in U.S. Cars Robert Bosch GmbH, the world's largest independent parts supplier to the automotive industry, based in Gerlingen, Germany, has agreed to plead guilty and to pay a $57.8 million criminal fine for its role in a conspiracy to fix prices and rig bids for spark plugs, oxygen sensors and starter motors sold to automobile and internal combustion engine manufacturers in the United States and elsewhere, the Department of Justice announced today. According to the one-count felony charge filed today in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan, Bosch conspired to allocate the supply of, rig bids for, and to fix, stabilize and maintain the prices of, spark plugs and oxygen sensors sold to automobile and internal combustion engine manufacturers such as DaimlerChrysler AG, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company and Andreas Stihl AG & Co., among others, in the United States and elsewhere.
