Up for bid is a BEAUTIFUL 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. We have owned it for the past 4 years and put about 2000 miles on it. It has been resting in our carport during this time and kept out of the elements. This car has been owned by an adult collector, so it hasn't been driven hard or abused in any way at all, never driven in the rain and never eaten in! We bought it from Flemings Ultimate Garage in Rockville, MD and had it shipped to MS in an enclosed carrier. This car has been fully restored inside and out, and it is beautiful! A real head-turner! This is a brief description from Fleming's website:
- Beautiful rotisserie restoration, fresh 289 cid 4bbl V-8 with 225hp, fresh automatic transmission, candy apple red paint, black bucket seats with fold-down rear seats, full gauges including rally package with working clock & tachometer, GT tri bar & driving lights, great sounding dual exhaust with GT trumpet tips, 4-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, upgraded sound system, reproduction radio to look authentic.
We added pony seatbelts and the center armrest with cup holders. It has a new battery, with a feature that allows you to turn it off to keep the battery from going dead between outings. There is one small dent near the nose in the center of the hood at the very front, it is between the 'O' and the 'R' in FORD. My husband accidentally did this pushing the hood down. The speedometer head and speedometer cable were recently replaced because the speedometer had broken and wasn't working properly. The odometer now only shows 15 miles, but it had 8104 before we had it repaired. It has reproduction stickers throughout and even a reproduction heater tag.
The interior is beautiful as you can see in the photos. The exterior is also gorgeous with maybe a small nick here and there, but nothing major at all, and only the small hood dent.
My husband saved for over 20 years to be able to buy this car and we are very sad to see it go, but he never gets to drive it so I guess its time has come to make some other family happy.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them. We can facetime or send video if you would like to see the car in action. This car runs and drives wonderfully, it shifts smooth, and sounds awesome. You won't be disappointed!
We are also trying to sell it locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction if necessary. Car is located in Philadelphia, MS 39350

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe
Mon, 17 Dec 2012According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"
Barrett-Jackson 2014: First production 2015 Ford Mustang earns $300k for JDRF [w/video]
Sat, 18 Jan 2014We've almost become immune to the huge dollar amounts that collectible cars earn for charity at Barrett-Jackson. To wit, $300,000 for the first production 2015 Ford Mustang initially didn't seem like very much money. In reality, though, it's probably about 10 times the actual asking price for the car, and we're pleased to report that 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
According to Ford, the car's winning bidder will get to "choose a fastback with manual or automatic transmission, and any interior, exterior and stripe color combination offered by Ford on the all-new Mustang." Power will come from a slightly revised version of the well-known 5.0-liter V8 engine that will produce "more than 420hp and 396 pound-feet of torque."
We snapped live images of the 2015 Mustang prototype that Ford had on display here at Barrett-Jackson, and you can check them out above. The official auction description, along with a video of the auction as it happened live, is below.
Expert: 54.5 mpg CAFE standard can be reached without many plug-ins
Sat, Jan 18 2014Johnson Controls executive Brian Kesseler isn't likely to get any holiday presents this year from Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn or Tesla Motors head Elon Musk, but lots of other folks might be happy with what he has to say about automakers' efforts to reach stricter fleetwide fuel-economy standards. Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress, Kesseler said automakers wouldn't need to sell an extensive number of plug-in vehicles in order to meet the 54.5 mile per gallon Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard the US government set in 2012 for 2025 model-year vehicles. In fact, he said, components such as stop-start engine technology, turbochargers and direct injection may actually do the trick. Already, things like smaller engine sizes and lighter cars are already playing major roles in spurring fuel-efficiency gains. Of course, Johnson Controls sells batteries specially built for stop-start systems, so Kesseler does have a bit of skin in this game. The 54.5-mpg CAFE standard equates to about a 40-mpg "real world" fuel-efficiency level. To put that into perspective, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said in a report late last year that model-year 2013 average fuel economy was an even 24 mpg. That was up from 23.6 mpg for the 2012 model year and 22.4 mpg for 2011.
