Okay, here is my '66 V8 Mustang. I bought it from a local guy who believed that it had little or no significant rust, or other problems. He was wrong. What it is, is a running, driving, V8 automatic. I do not know if the odometer is correct, but I don't have reason to doubt that the 55k is correct. I have done a lot of work to the car in the time I have had it (see list below) but there is a lot more to do and I would rather have money in the bank than a classic car.
The Good: (New parts / work since I bought the car in December)
- Starter
- Alternator
- Carburator (Edelbrock 600CFM 4bbl w/ electric choke)
- MSD Digital Ignition (6AL control box with a Pro Billet distributor
- Radiator (Aluminum)
- Heater core (Aluminum)
- Coolant hoses
- Water pump
- Water neck
- Thermostat
- Fan (Flex-A-Lite)
- All new suspension including springs (front and rear w 1" drop) control arms, shackles, bushings, and hardware. Alignment was done following the installation.
- Fuel Pump (Edelbrock)
- Steering linkage
- Tires are in good shape
The Bad (known faults):
- Rear main seal leaking...in fact all engine seals / gaskets need attention
- Same story on the transmission, needs seals and gaskets
- There is a dent and scratch on the front valance
- There is a chip of paint missing on the faux hood scoop, and on the leading edge of the hood
- There is a hand written note in the car that indicates that there is a "hi-po" cam (whatever that means), new fenders, new quarters, and non-stock final drive gearing.
- The Edelbrock intake manifold is not leaking, but one of the carb mounting holes was damaged and fitted with a heli-coil and its a little crooked. This has not proven to be a problem, as I said, there are no vacuum leaks that I am aware of.
- The car is using oil, some out of the rear main seal, but it is 47 years old, and there is not an oil spot(s) under the car, and it has to be going someplace...so it seems it is burning some of it.
- The previous owner had the starter replaced, I had to do it again. There were fragments of the starter drive gear in the transmission bell housing that chewed up and ruined the starter he had put in the car because the shop he took it to did not remove them. I do not know how much damage there is inside the bell housing because I have not pulled the engine / transmission as of yet. I put in a re-manufactured Motorcraft starter and have not had any trouble so far.
- The heater box was damaged when replacing the heater core and will have to be replaced.
- The steering box needs help
- The steering wheel is not stock
- One of the wheels is bent slightly (as if anybody needs a reason to ditch those HIDEOUS Baby Moons). I have 4 factory wheels with good center caps and tires
The car is 47 years old, it needs a lot of TLC
The Ugly:
- Shock Towers rusted
- Front frame rails has significant rust and a clumsy patch riveted in on one of them
- The trunk / cabin transition where the rear seat belts bolt in are rusted through (see images)
- There are several small rust holes in the trunk
- The Driver seat lower frame is broken
- The weather seals are probably original, and therefore they leak (which caused a lot of the interior corrosion damage)
- Headliner has a tear and water damage as does the cargo shelf
In short the car needs a lot of sheet metal work, really it needs to be completely stripped, media blasted and correctly repaired which is why I am selling it. Those repairs are beyond my skill and financial reach. Please feel free to ask lots of questions, I will answer them as best I can.

2022 Rivian R1T vs. 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning vs. GMC Hummer EV Pickup | How they compare on paper
Tue, Sep 28 2021The 2022 Rivian R1T has arrived, ushering in the era of the production electric pickup truck. The Rivian reviews are in, and spoiler alert: They're pretty good. Curious how the new battery-powered truck stacks up to its forthcoming competitors? Well, you've come to the right place. Rivian beat all of Detroit's big automakers to market in the half-ton segment, but probably not by the margin the startup would have liked. Ford's answer is the F-150 Lightning, which is due to enter production early next year, coming hot on the heels of GM's first entry into the space – the GMC Hummer EV pickup – which is scheduled to come off the line late this fall. While all three are pickups, they're aimed at distinctly different buyers, as a perusal of their specifications will reveal. Let's have a look, shall we?  Disclaimer: Before we dive in on this one, we'd like to note that while we've made our best effort to verify the specs provided, the Rivian is brand-new and the others are still in the prototype phase. Some of these figures may be inaccurate or may simply change before production. This is all hypothetical until you can actually cross-shop them anyway, right? Cool. End disclaimer. Let's start with the powertrains. They're all battery-electric trucks engineered on a modular rear-wheel-drive configuration engineered to accommodate (theoretically, anyway) up to four electric drive units. Rivian actually makes the most use of this with a quad-motor setup producing 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque with its high-output initial model. GMC's three-motor Hummer has the R1T beat with its estimated 1,000-horsepower output, while Ford's (also three-motor) comes in with a far more modest 563 horses. This is an excellent illustration of our above point that these are not all engineered for the same crowd. Ford's F-150, which comes in at a lower price point, is meant to be far more mainstream, as its power output suggests. This theme continues when we look at the dimensions. Despite the image "Hummer" may conjure, GMC's entry actually needs the shallowest parking space. The Rivian is right behind it, with the work-truck-spec Ford extending more than a foot longer than either. What the Hummer lacks in length, it makes up for in girth. It's the widest by a good 5 inches. The Rivian is only slightly pudgier than the F-150, but it's much closer at that end of the scale.
Ford highlights new F-650 and F-750 with full-size Tonka show truck [w/videos]
Thu, Mar 5 2015Who among us hasn't been tempted by the prospect of buying a big yellow truck and painting the name Tonka along the side? Well apparently there were some folks over at Ford who were just as tempted, only they actually had the means to make that childhood fantasy a reality in the form of the truck you see here. Revealed at the NTEA Work Truck Show this week in Indianapolis, this Tonka show truck stands nearly 10 feet tall. It's painted bright yellow, just like the one you played with in the sand box (and probably still would given the opportunity and maybe no one else looking) and has a blacked-out nose treatment and special graphics. As you can see, it's also equipped with a working dump bed, and has a truly staggering 33,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating, built to showcase the Blue Oval's new line of medium duty trucks. Of course "medium duty" is a relative term, and the new F-750 is clearly a heavier piece of machinery than the company's own Super Duty pickups, but they're lighter-duty than a proper big rig. The new 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 are just as tough as the models they replace, but they're now quieter and more comfortable to use. In fact, Ford says its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel is now 25-percent quieter inside the cabin at highway speeds, 45-percent quieter at idle and 35-percent quieter standing outside in front of the grille. Ford notes that it's the only medium-duty truck manufacturer that makes its own engines and transmissions. That Power Stroke diesel comes with 270 horsepower and 675 pound-feet of torque as standard, but can be upgraded to 300 hp and 700 lb-ft or all the way up to 330 hp and 725 lb-ft. Commercial buyers will also be able to choose between Regular, Super and Crew Cab models with a straight-frame, dock-height or tractor-towing frames, meaning that whatever it is you've got to haul, chances are high that the new Ford F-650 and F-750 can be set up to get the job done.
2015 Ford Mustang to make world debut on Dec. 5 [w/video]
Tue, 19 Nov 2013Between a bevvy of spy shots, speculative renders and insidery images from the halls of Car and Driver, we've got a pretty decent idea of what the 2015 Ford Mustang might look like. Still, we're excited to see the real deal as soon as possible.
Turns out that Ford has told us just when that first official look might come, too, although it has chosen somewhat of a backdoor fashion for dropping the news.
The video below popped up on the Ford Mustang YouTube channel this morning, promoting a social media effort called #MustangInspires on. The video and hashtag ask fans of the pony car to share pictures of the car - or "photographic stories of inspiration" - on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. But the truly interesting part of the video description is that which mentions taking "the cover off the all-new Mustang" on December 5. Consider our calendars marked.
