For sale is a vintage 1965 Mustang coupe. According to the VIN, this car is literally just into the '65 model year. When I got the car, it appeared to be pretty good shape for the year. On further inspection, it appears to be remarkably rust free considering it's been in the midwest for so long. I'm told I'm the third owner, and that the second owner had it garaged for over 25 years. I've owned it for over 11 and it's been garaged for all of that. This car is basically stock. the dash pad was replaced when I got it. While the door tag says it should have a manual tranny, it has an auto C4 "green dot" tranny and appears to be stock. It wasn't unusual for these changes to be made at the factory and not show up on the door tag. I cannot see where the clutch pedal would have been pushed through the firewall, so I believe this to be true. The body has some small rust and is not the correct color, which should be "poppy red". Also, looking at the hood, it looks like it may have had a vinyl top at some point. Everything looks to be stock and even the radio works, although the pots need cleaning!!

The engine is in great shape and just needs to be dressed. The car has only 89,000 miles on it, and I believe that to be accurate owing to the condition of everything. It runs smooth with no mechanical issues at all. I've done some work on it, including new fuel pump, water pump, plugs, wires, and tires. Otherwise, it's just as I purchased it. More pics if requested.

Basically, it would take very little for this car to be restored, but I don't have the time and probably won't for a while, so I've decided to part with it. Buyer is responsible for pickup and related costs and deposit required within 48 hours of purchase. Serious buyers/bidders only. I want this car to go to a great home, as it's very special to me. Happy bidding!

Ford dissects the heart of the 2015 Mustang, its engine range

Thu, 05 Dec 2013

Happy Mustang Day. Are you tired of hearing about the 2015 Ford Mustang yet? No? Good, here's a bunch of mechanical data on Ford's sixth-gen muscle car, along with cutaways of the GT's 5.0-liter V8 and the new 2.3-liter, EcoBoost four-cylinder shown above. We also have a smattering of info on the Stang's updated transmissions and an exploded-parts-diagram view of its all-new independent rear suspension.
Ford is set to make waves offering the Mustang with a turbo for the firs time since the small-volume SVO of the 1980s. Displacing 2.3 liters, the engine's twin-scroll turbo should help the four-cylinder turn out a projected 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, while also returning the best fuel economy in the Mustang's engine lineup. As we said in our Deep Dive, the EcoBoost will be slotted in as a premium engine, above the 3.7-liter V6 but below the 5.0-liter V8.
Speaking of that high-revving eight-cylinder, it's receiving a new cylinder head with high-flow ports. The intake and exhaust valves are larger and the cams have been replaced, among other tweaks. It should rev even higher thanks to a rebalanced crankshaft and forged connecting rods. Ford is still claiming a projected 420 hp and 390 lb-ft, although as many of the changes for the 2015's V8 come from the 2013 Boss 302, we're going to assume there's some sandbagging at work.

Ford adds 850 jobs to build 2015 F-150

Tue, 14 Oct 2014

Pickup trucks tend not to advance at quite the same pace as the rest of the industry. That's what makes the new Ford F-150 so remarkable, jettisoning its old steel construction in favor of aluminum. It's a game changer that Ford is betting big on, and in anticipation of surging demand, the Blue Oval automaker is adding 850 new jobs to put the thing together.
Those 850 new employees will be centered at Ford's Rouge complex in Michigan - with 300 at Dearborn Stamping, 50 more at Dearborn Diversified and 500 at the Dearborn Truck facility, the latter of which has already kicked off what Ford describes as "the largest manufacturing transformation in decades." Old manufacturing equipment is being replaced with the latest technologies, and even the Ford Rouge Factory Tour is undergoing a complete overhaul.
The new jobs come as part of the commitments Ford made to the UAW in 2011 to create 12,000 hourly jobs in the United States by 2015 - a number which Ford has already exceeded at 14,000. Over 4,000 of those are centered in southeastern Michigan.

This 2,000-hp Mustang is in serious need of wheelie bars

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

The Ford Mustang on the right is drag racing with the standard technique. The Mustang on the left, driven by David Measell, is using a new "rear bumper only" technique that evidently surprised everyone at the South Georgia Motorsports Park strip - including Measell.
Measell said his outfit just bought the car the week before the event, noting that it has more than 2,000 horsepower. Speaking of his "flying" run, Measell said, "We turned it up to dip on down," by which he meant they turned up the power in order to get his time down. Turns out all that power and all that traction sent the nose straight up into the air almost as soon as the race began.
He told an interviewer afterward that this was his first race in a "regular car" since he normally drives a pro-mod. "I like my wheelie bars," he concluded. You can see how he got there in the video below.
