For your consideration is a 1914 Model T Ford Speedster. New items on the car include: All new paint by a professional painter in a booth for all the sheet metal (all steel, no fiberglass), all new wiring, floor mat, light bulbs, spark plugs, ammeter, brass data plates, firewall and brass rim, exhaust manifold and gaskets, radiator hoses and clamps, fan belt, and new starter switch. You will notice the headlights are marked with a V on the top. The headlights were made by the Velie Automobile Company which was active in the same early years as Ford. These headlights are original from about 1910/1911 and are not aftermarket items. They have been restored and new halogen 12 volt bulbs installed. For the most part, Speedsters were/are "put together cars", similar to later hot rods. While this Speedster is titled as a 1914 model the engine is a 1922, cast in January of that year. In the early years when these cars were first being made the builders of Speedsters would use whatever they could find to build the car they wanted. The car can still be crank started but there is a 12 volt battery under the seat and an alternator and electric starter. I normally start the car on battery using the starter but it will run on magneto but not as well as on the battery. You will note that three of the tires have matching tread while the right rear is a different tread. I debated new tires but some folks would like all white tires and some prefer all black tires. The present tires, while not new, are suitable for most Model T driving----just one has a different tread. You may bid with that in mind. I do have a clear Texas title. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer and the car is for sale locally so the auction could be ended early if a local sale takes place. Preferred method of payment is wire transfer. You are invited to make a personal inspection before bidding. Thanks for looking.

Justin Bell makes a horrible policeman
Mon, 11 Nov 2013If you're wondering what type of person makes a good police officer, it seems a racecar driver doesn't. Let us rephrase that: Justin Bell, a racecar driver and the host of Motor Trend's World's Fastest Car Show, recently got behind the wheel of a 5.0-liter Ford Mustang police car with Sergeant Daniel Shrubb, co-founder of DRAGG (Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti), and proved that his high-performance-driving skillset is a bit too aggressive for police duty.
While it's easy to get carried away in a Mustang GT, a patrol car driver must maintain some sort of restraint while pursuing a criminal, so as not to come off as a reckless driver to the public. We'll admit, some pursuit techniques are counter-intuitive to performance driving (stay off the gas in a lane-change exercise?), but Bell's judicious use of the handbrake can't be normal procedure.
Watch "The One With The Ford Mustang 5.0 Police Car" (yes, we caught the Friends reference too) below to see some shenanigans in one of Michigan's finest patrol cars.
Here's the new face of the Ford Ranger
Thu, Nov 27 2014Ford Asia Pacific has put a teaser video on YouTube showing off details on the 2015 Ranger pickup, and at the end we get a quick glimpse of the whole truck. This is the T6 Ranger that we still don't get in North America, but that shares its underpinnings with the Everest SUV recently introduced at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. The Ranger gets a chunkier front end than the Everest, identified by its grille with three floating slats, reminiscent of designs on the previous F-150, and a less-stylized lower front bumper. Ford says it will be smarter, safer, smoother and stronger, but we'll have to wait for its reveal to find out what that means. Meanwhile, you can admire its new looks in the video below.
2014 Ford F-150 gets CNG option
Wed, 31 Jul 2013Ford is toiling away, installing heavy-duty engine components into select 3.7-liter V6s to allow them to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in addition to gasoline. That's nothing new, but now, Ford has announced that it will offer the 2014 F-150 with this engine configuration, bringing the Blue Oval's total number of CNG/LPG-friendly vehicles up to eight. The F-150 will be the only half-ton pickup on the market that can run on these gases.
Ford will charge $315 per vehicle to equip the optional engine, but the trucks won't be ready to run on the alternative fuels straight from the factory and must be upfitted with additional equipment. A Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier will install a separate fuel system for the compressed gases at a cost of $7,500 to $9,500, depending on fuel tank size. With the right-size tank, the F-150 equipped with the CNG/LPG-prepped engine can go 750 miles on one tank of gas, according to Ford, averaging 23 miles per gallon.
The practice of offering flex-fuel vehicles is gaining momentum as businesses take advantage of cheap gas. CNG can be bought for $2.11/gallon on average (per gasoline equivalent), and sometimes for as little as $1.00 in some parts of the US, Ford states. "With the money saved using CNG, customers could start to see payback on their investment in as little as 24 to 36 months," says Jon Coleman, Ford's fleet sustainability and technology manager. The automaker expects to sell a total of 15,000 CNG/LPG-prepped vehicles in the 2014 model year.
