1910 Ford Model T Tourabout Aaca Nat'l First on 2040-cars
Mahwah, New Jersey, United States
1910 Ford Model T Tourabout. Well preserved older restoration, AACA Natrional First Prize Winner. This car is very authentic with most original parts, not a reconstructed vehicle. It has the following original correct parts: open valve engine, one piece pan, square hole transmission cover, 6 rivet rear, one piece spindles with wide track axles front and rear, wheels, coil box, hood former, Stewart speedometer with drive, Rands windshield, E&J 466 headlights with burners and excellent mirrors, E&J 3 tier sidelights ( may be incorrect), E&J taillight, Rubes horn, and more. The windshield and sidelight brackets are correct brass plated steel. Part of the arrow is still visible on the mixture knob. The carburetor is incorrect. It is an older restoration but the paint is still presentable, some cracking due to age and the wooden body. The body itself is original, see picture of back and front cushion frame. The leather upholstery is in excellent condition. The top is good and is lined. There are no side curtains. The car runs good, even on mag. The individual who found and restored this car registered it as a 1909. In order to do this he ground off the 1 on the engine serial number (pretty obvious looking at the picture of the engine) making it a 1909, ser# 6361, when in fact it should be a 1910 ser# 16361 (an easy fix). Checking with the Ford archives substantiates the fact that this is indeed a 1910. The shipping department records describe #16361 as a tourabout with 60" southern track axles, Rands WS, Stewart speedometer etc. This car was assembled on 2/23/10 and shipped to F. M. Co. in Houston TX on Feb 26, 1910. I have copies of the original Ford manufacturing department records, supplied by the Ford archives. The car is presently located in northern New Jersey near various interstates and about 20 miles from NYC. Please contact me via eBay or call me at 201 327 7621 for any questions or further pictures, also to make an appointment to see and drive the car. Low reserve! |

Ford, Samsung shack up to bring regen braking to non-hybrid models [w/video]
Mon, 09 Jun 2014Ford must be desperate to get itself ready for the beach this summer because it is really trying to get into shape. Shortly after unveiling the Lightweight Concept that cut the weight of a Fusion down to that of a Fiesta, it's now the rest of the line's turn for improvement. The company is wrapping up a 10-year research project aimed at developing next-gen automotive batteries to improve efficiency.
Ford claims that 70 percent of its lineup will have stop/start tech by 2017. The key to this massive proliferation is its new dual-battery system that combines a lithium-ion battery with a lead-acid one and regenerative braking. The setup works by harvesting braking energy and converting it to electricity. When the vehicle stops, the engine shuts off, but the Li-ion battery has enough juice to keep the accessories running. The engine starts up again as drivers take their foot off the brake. The layout would mean less wasted gas while idling. It's already available on Ford hybrids and is somewhat similar to the i-Eloop capacitor-based system from Mazda.
The bigger challenge is tuning the regenerative braking right. While hybrid drivers may be a little more adventurous, when it comes to getting a hang of regen braking, conventional buyers might not be so open-minded. The systems have a tendency to be a little grabby at first and then taper off at very low speeds. Ford needs to make sure it's just right to avoid turning off buyers.

Ford says C-Max mpg reduction has hurt sales
Tue, 22 Apr 2014The Ford C-Max is having a rough time. Sales for the five-door hybrid hatchback were down 39.1 percent in March to 2,295 cars, and sales from January through March were down 42.5 percent to 5,566 units. In an interview with The Detroit News, Ford Americas boss Joe Hinrichs places the blame on lowering the model's fuel economy rating.
"We're definitely seeing consideration on C-Max decline over time. We need to reinvest in the product because it's a great car," said Hinrichs to The Detroit News.
The company was hit with bad publicity over the C-Max when owners in multiple states filed class action lawsuits that alleged the cars weren't able to meet the stated fuel economy. Ford eventually re-rated the model from 47 miles per gallon city, highway and combined to 40 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 43 mpg combined. To soften the blow of the change, the automaker sent checks to the owners to make up some of the difference. Initially, Ford claimed that demand remained strong for the hybrid. However, the latest sales figures and Hinrichs' statement seem to show the opposite.
