1930 Ford Pickup on 2040-cars
South Pasadena, California, United States
You are bidding on a 1930 (technically registered as a 1929) Ford Roadster Pickup hot rod. The car was originally built by Hollywood Hot Rods for the La Carrera Pan Americana Race, but we raced a different car at the last moment. Subsequently we removed the roll cage and totally re-did it as a street roadster with all the work completed by Bata Mataja (see google search). It is about five years old and has maybe 2,000 miles at the most with no racing.
The engine is a 276 Cubic inch Ford flathead built by Howard Allen with S.C.O.T blower and Ardun Overhead built by Don Ferguson. Hunt electronic ignition. Custom made headers. Oil cooled radiator. Two rebuilt 2-Jet Rochester carburetors. (This is basically the same engine (his has more bottom end strengthening, higher compression, fuel, etc) that Don Ferguson runs in his Bonneville car that exceeds 300 MPH. It is coupled to a T-5 Five speed transmission, aluminum drive shaft to a Speedway Engineering quick change rear end. Brakes are Wilwood discs front and rear with bias control. Wheels are aluminum knock-offs shod with 7:50 X 18 Dunlop racing tires in the rear and 6:00 X16 Excelsior racing tires in the front. It includes a spare set of six aluminum knock-offs shod with Toyo road racing tires. Dropped tube front axle. The chassis is the size and shape of a '32 Ford but made entirely of chrome molly tubing. Suspension is torsion bar front and rear with adjustable (both up and down) high performance shocks. The front has an anti-sway bar. The body is a 1930 Brookville body and bed modified. Please note the cowl, windshield, dash board modifications and the bed has been widened. The grill shell is Whippet, with the huge radiator in the rear bed with a high performance fan. Runs cool -- necessary for Mexico! The grill mascot is a 1030's European (Brunswilk) bronze monkey. The fuel tank is custom made Fuel Safe with racing bladder. The gauges are early Stewart Warner with copper plated bezels. All of the instruments work and were rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer. The three stem switches custom made are for the horn, blinkers and lights. Ignition, starter button and fan switch are under/behind the custom dash. The steering is Schroeder, with a quick release wheel. Interior is old canvas and leather (rough side out). The body is painted air force blue and distressed. This is a very quick car and those of you who have not driven a high performance flathead with blower and Ardun overheads will be quite surprised at its torque and horsepower. The parts alone are worth more than the starting bid. Selling to make room for new acquisition. Good luck bidding. I have additional photos if you are interested. |

Your official Ford Transit specs are here, $29,565* to start
Wed, 04 Jun 2014Ford has released the full list of pricing and specs on its new Transit, the replacement for the long-lived E-Series cargo van. Prices are set to start at $29,565 and can increase rapidly from there, depending on length, engine and wheelbase, among other options.
Let's talk first about those new engines. The base is the familiar 3.7-liter, naturally aspirated V6. It boasts 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and can return up to 14 miles per gallon in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. This engine can also be adapted to run on LPG or compressed natural gas. Of course, there are better alternatives, for a price, the first of which is Ford's well-received, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It packs 310 hp and a best-in-class 400 lb-ft of torque (available at just 2,500 rpm) while matching the naturally aspirated engine in both city and highway fuel economy.
Then, there's the diesel. With a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel mill at its disposal, the Transit generates 350 lb-ft between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm, along with 185 hp. This engine hasn't been rated by the EPA, although we'd be really, really surprised if it didn't handily best either of the gas-powered engines in fuel efficiency. A six-speed automatic is standard, regardless of engine.
2015 Ford F-150 gets Power Wheels treatment [w/video]
Thu, 26 Jun 2014With the introduction of its forthcoming 2015 F-150, Ford is breaking with convention by shifting from steel-intensive construction to aluminum. But what if it weren't made of metal altogether? What if it were made of plastic instead, and packed an electric motor instead of an internal-combustion engine?
Feast your eyes, boys and girls, on the new Power Wheels F-150. Built by Fisher-Price and licensed by Ford, the third-generation ride-on toy started development nine months before the full-size version debuted at the Detroit Auto Show this past January, and is hitting sidewalks and driveways across the country this September.
The Power Wheels F-150 carries a sticker price of $349.99, and there's a special version at Toys R Us with LED headlamps (just like the real F-150) for an extra $10.
Ford F-Series Super Duty prototype reduced to smoldering mess of aluminum and steel [UPDATE]
Mon, 04 Aug 2014The most important bit of information you need to know after looking through our high-res gallery of images depicting a prototype 2016 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup truck burning to the ground is that nobody was hurt. There were two engineers inside the vehicle when it caught fire, and both exited to safety.
That's the good news. The bad news is that the truck, which appears to have been testing in Death Valley, appears to be a total loss, minus, of course, whatever information Ford can glean from the conflagration - particularly tracing it back to its root cause. Besides that, we're also expecting the body of the next Super Duty to be hewn from aluminum, as is the case with its smaller brother, the brand-new F-150. Note the little aluminum droppings littering the roadway as apparent proof of that.
Our spy photographers report that it took just 21 minutes for the F-Series Super Duty to burn completely to the ground. The fire appears to have started in the driver-side front wheel well, spreading to engulf the entire front end in three minutes. We can't confirm the source of the blaze, but we're curious if the car's black vinyl cladding, meant to obscure the secrets within, contributed to the fire.
