1930 Ford Model A Rat Rod Blown Big Block Chevy 8-71 Supercharger No Reserve on 2040-cars
Bronston, Kentucky, United States
Up for auction with no reserve is a 1930 Ford Model A Rat Rod. The body is in rough condition with no side windows or rear window. It was formerly a 4 door slant window sedan that someone shortened into a 2 door cab. The doors open and latch easily. The body has a new firewall, front floor, 32 style dash, and grille shell from Brookville Roadster. The grille is new from Vintiques. The body needs a lot of TLC but has been driven as is. The interior includes 2 new Bomber seats. The frame is an original Model A frame that came with the cab. It was also rough but has been reinforce by boxing and bracing. The frame has a 10 inch kick up in the rear. The front suspension is a drilled I Beam with disc brakes and radius rods and the rear suspension is the drag race ladder bar kit, both are from Pete and Jakes with Posie's springs. It has disc brakes on the front and rear with a new under dash brake pedal assembly and master cylinder. The rear end is an 8.8 from a 1998 Ford Explorer with 31 spline axles, a rebuilt limited slip, and new disc brakes. The rear has been narrowed to 56 inches by shortening the driver's side to use a passenger side axle. The electrical includes a new wiring harness and one wire alternator from Danny's Rod Shop, United Pacific Guide Style Headlights, 32 Ford tail lights, and 6 gauge set from VDO. The steering is through a new Borgeson 525 Box and u joints with a new Ididt Old School column and Grant wheel. It has a new fuel tank from Tanks, Inc that holds 16 gallons with a Mr. Gasket electric fuel pump.
The engine is a big block chevy with small oval cast iron heads. It is freshly built with a Scat crank with 4.25" stroke, Scat H beam rods, SRP pistons, UltraDyne solid lift cam and lifters, with 3/8 push rods, and roller rockers. It is fed by 2 new Edelbrock 600 cfm carbs through a new Dyer's 8-71 supercharger. The engine is 489 cubic inches with a compression ratio of 8.5:1 and the supercharger is under driven to produce 5 psi. The horsepower is unknown but it is powerful and runs well. The engined is cooled by an aluminum water pump through a Walker radiator that has a Cooling Components Inc electric fan. The transmission is a TH400 with a new B&M Breakaway stall converter and a 23" Lokar shifter. It has a new driveshaft with 1350 u joints. This car is light with a very powerful engine. I have built many cars and this is the most dangerous but a lot of fun being very loud, very quick, and can break the tires loose with only minor throttle changes. The reason to sell is that I have a pro touring project waiting and want to use the proceeds to complete it. This car is being offered thousands below cost and will be sold AS IS, WHERE IS, WITHOUT TITLE, BILL OF SALE ONLY. I will gladly cooperate with the buyer to pick the vehicle up themselves or with a competent shipping company. |

Deep discounts — $12K, $13K, $16K — are fueling a pickup price war
Mon, Jun 4 2018Heavy discounts of up to $16,000 per vehicle are fueling a "truck war" among full-size pickups sold in the United States by the Detroit Three, a Reuters analysis shows. Strong U.S. sales this year of the highly profitable big trucks have helped offset lagging passenger car sales. But it is not clear how much of the truck demand is linked directly to ample factory incentives and dealer discounts, or how far sales might decline without those subsidies. A Reuters survey of Ford, General Motors Co's Chevrolet and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles's Ram truck dealers across the United States indicates stores are offering deep discounts the country's bestselling full-size pickup trucks. "The walls are not crashing down on full-size trucks," said Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Detroit-based automakers want to keep cranking out their high-margin trucks, he added, and "giving up a little of the profit is the cheapest way to do it." Stores are offering discounts of up to $12,000 on the 2018 Ford F-150, which remains the best-selling vehicle in the country, recording more than 80,000 sales in May. Discounts run up to $13,000 on the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and as high as $16,000 on the Ram 1500. Average transaction prices for full-size pick-ups range from around $42,000 to $45,000, industry analysts and automakers say. All three companies are spending furiously - GM and Fiat Chrysler to help sell off carryover 2018 trucks to prepare for redesigned 2019 models, and Ford to sustain its long-held sales crown. A supplier fire that temporarily shut down production of the F-150 last month "changed the game," said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at LMC Automotive in Troy, Michigan said. The supply halt nudged Ford's crosstown rivals "to ratchet up incentives on the current models to go after weakness at Ford," he said. Deals advertised on the companies' official websites range from rebates and low-interest loans to ultra-cheap lease rates, but they are not telling the whole story. Ford, for instance, advertises a $2,000 rebate and a $500 financing credit on sales of certain F-150 models. But James Collins Ford in Louisville, Kentucky, is offering discounts of up to $12,215 on the 2018 F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4x4. The price cuts are even steeper at a number of GM and Fiat Chrysler dealers. Quirk Chevrolet is selling the 2018 Silverado 1500 Double Cab at $13,000 off sticker.
Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake
Thu, 19 Sep 2013History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.
2015 will be the biggest year ever for cars at CES
Fri, Jan 2 2015Like the SEMA Show, major automakers are paying increasing attention to the CES, with 2015 expected to be one of the most auto focused yet. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Audi, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will all be in attendance when CES 2015 kicks off next week, taking up a record-breaking 165,000 square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We've come a long way from a single car on a carpet," Ford's Alan Hall told Bloomberg. Unlike SEMA, or a more traditional auto show, like the upcoming festivities in Detroit, CES doesn't necessarily focus on entire cars or the way they perform, but on the way our technology will interact with vehicles, and in how those vehicles will deliver information to drivers. "CES has become a major launch point for a lot of the big automakers," IHS tech analyst Mark Boyadjis told Bloomberg. "CES is a way for them to get on a global stage for technology." As for what kind of wares automakers will trot out in Las Vegas, we already know that BMW will show off an autonomous i3 electric car that can navigate its way through a multistory car park and can be hailed via a smartwatch app. According to Bloomberg, Hyundai will show off its own smartwatch app for the Genesis sedan, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz will show off autonomous vehicles next week. Automakers won't be the only companies looking to capitalize on CES. Tech firms, like chipmaker Nvidia, are becoming increasingly involved in the automotive game and will be in town showing their wares off to OEMs. "Two years ago, our booth would have been filled with PCs and people playing video games," Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's senior director for automotive business, told Bloomberg. "This year we made a strategic decision to shift the focus of the booth on automotive and de-prioritize some of the other things." Needless to say, you can expect to see a lot of news out of Las Vegas come next week. Stay tuned.
