1930 Ford Model A 5 Window Coupe With Rumble Seat - New Restoration No Reserve on 2040-cars
North Charleston, South Carolina, United States
|
Here is a rare chance on a NO-RESERVE auction for a freshly restored 1930 Ford Model A 5 Window Coupe with Rumble Seat for 50 cents on the dollar. The client requested the "best restoration money could buy", but when the time came, he couldn't afford it. Now his loss and my loss can be your gain! The car started out as one of the most dent-free, rust-free, all metal examples of a 5 window coupe that my painter of 33 years experience had ever seen. He set out to make the Washington Blue with Black fenders sparkle like a show car, using superb bodywork and the best of PPG technology with Urethane basecoat and clearcoat. The 19 inch wheels were freshly sandblasted and powdercoated in Tacoma Cream and shod with new Lucas 4.75 x 19 inch tires, radial tubes, new chrome hubcaps and new chrome lug nuts. The interior was newly installed using the Cartouche vinyl kit and all interior panels were recovered in new matching vinyl with windlace. The original headliner looks new and wasn't changed. The rumble seat and side panels were fine but re-dyed to match. A fortune was spent on new chrome. New front bumpers and medallions, rechromed rear bumpers and spare tire guard, new inside door latches and window cranks and escutcheons, new dash instrument surround, new gas cap, new rumble seat latch, etc. The engine compartment was detailed with the correct engine green, new coolant hoses and clamps, exhaust manifold dressing and component restoration. The starter received a new, improved Bendix, and the radiator was sent out for cleaning, repairs and painting. New points were installed and the engine was tuned to purr at idle. The radiator shell and headlight buckets were polished, and a new, loud AA-OO-GAH horn was installed. It has the opening front windshield, proper vacuum wiper motor, and the temperature gauge radiator cap. The car runs and drives like a proper Model A. Shifting is easy ( for a non-synchro 3 speed) and the brakes stop firmly in a straight line. The engine has a ton of torque, shows no smoke ever, and doesn't leak a drop. It is the original matching numbers engine as shown on multiple titles, and looks to have always run dry and clean. The speedometer reads 04902.1 but the initial 0 is very faded and could be any number or no number. No claim is made on lifetime mileage, although the car has seen little use since 1964 with two owners. Everything on the car is original Model A except the battery was moved to the firewall for better access, and the horn is not an original Spartan horn. This is the kind of car you won't be afraid to drive, but it will still win trophies at local shows. We all know that perfect paint and body adds $ 10,000 to a Model A. At comparable prices, most cars feature older restorations with paint problems, and once you start trying to improve them, you can go underwater. This car is as fresh as they come, save for a $ 30,000 frame-off restoration. Yes, there are a few things that could be improved if you were in search of a Dearborn Award. The new running board rubber is ribbed and correct for a 1929, not the pyramid pattern of a 1930. The firewall is not show condition paint. Previously mentioned were the battery location and horn. The steering column and wheel haven't been repainted. There's a small BB hole in the lower corner of the rear window which could be filled with resin. Any car can be improved, but on this one, most of the projects are easy. This is a NO RESERVE auction. The opening bid meets the reserve, and the highest bidder in 10 days will win the car. I will not end the auction early. If the winning bidder doesn't come through, it will be offered to the second highest bidder. I reserve the right to question the finances of any extremely low feedback bidders and act accordingly. You are encouraged to inspect and test drive the car ( it is near the Charleston, SC airport - transportation arranged from the airport if needed) or have an appraiser inspect it. A clean South Carolina title will be on hand by auction end. If you desire extra pictures, please request via "ask a question". |

Galpin Auto Sports and Fisker turn the Mustang into a Rocket in LA [w/video]
Thu, Nov 20 2014Galpin Auto Sport and Henrik Fisker made big promises about the Rocket before its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show today, calling it the "ultimate American muscle car." Now that this 725-horsepower carbon-fiber Ford Mustang has officially been revealed, we've now got a chance to see if their vision backs up all the bluster. The Rocket is based off the latest 2015 Mustang, but the entire exterior design has been substantially reworked by Fisker. "This is a project born out of passion, it's a dream come true, to have the opportunity to 'touch' a Mustang and apply my design ideas to it," he says in the model's announcement. The biggest changes come up front, where Fisker has added a gaping hexagonal grille with a polished bar running and two nearly hidden driving lights at the top corners. Long nostrils run down each side of the hood, taking their inspiration from the 1968 Shelby GT500. The Rocket's design also emphasizes its scalloped sides, which run back to functional ducts at the rear to cool the Brembo Grand Turismo brakes. When checking out the Rocket from the rear, it's easy to spot the wider fenders that are beautifully blended into the integrated spoiler. The interior has been left mostly alone beyond some eye-grabbing red leather and carbon-fiber trim. Under the hood, Galpin spokesperson Nathan Hoyt has confirmed to Autoblog that the Rocket employs a 5.0-liter V8 with a Whipple supercharger which can be called to attention with a six-speed manual gearbox. It took only a few months for the vehicle to go from conception to reality. Fisker showed Galpin President Beau Boeckmann early sketches at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and the two parties went from there. "When Henrik showed me his ideas, I got chills - it's literally the most beautiful Mustang I have ever seen," says Boeckmann in the company's release. Production is set to begin in December, with deliveries starting in early 2015. There's no set production total in mind for now, but Hoyt tells Autoblog that the price will be "just over $100,000." Ford shareholders happy as the Blue Oval stays in the black
Fri, May 15 2015Ford posted slightly falling global sales and revenue in its first-quarter financial announcement, but pre-tax profits and operating margins were up. Apparently, that was plenty to keep shareholders happy, though. The Blue Oval's recent investor meeting in Delaware lasted less than an hour, and a vote on the approval of the board passed by over 93 percent. Ford CEO Mark Fields continued to predict a strong year financially and increasing profits, according to the Detroit Free Press. The growth comes thanks in large part to the company's 24 global vehicle launches last year and 15 more this year. The likelihood of significant profits from the strong-selling 2015 F-150 should be especially lucrative, too. In the Q1 announcement, the Blue Oval forecast pre-tax profits between $8.5 billion and $9.5 billion for 2015. During the meeting, Fields said that the next 15 years of changes in the industry represent the "ultimate opportunity as a company. As big as when Henry Ford put the world on wheels more than 100 years ago," according to the Free Press. Investments like the expanded technology center in Silicon Valley should push that work along. Weekly Recap: Toyota, Mazda team up to 'make cars better'
Sat, May 16 2015Toyota and Mazda are teaming for a noble purpose: to "make cars better." That's how the two Japanese automakers termed their partnership, which was announced this week. So what does this actually mean? The companies said they will set up a joint committee to look for areas of cooperation and named safety and the environment as issues they plan to tackle. From a product perspective, it's believed that Toyota is interested in Mazda's Skyactive engine portfolio. In turn, Mazda has its eye on Toyota's fuel-cell and plug-in hybrid technology. While more specifics were not confirmed, the companies said the "agreement will go beyond the traditional framework of cooperation," and it has the potential to be a long-range partnership. "The main purpose of this initiative is to enhance the appeal of our cars," Toyota president Akio Toyoda said at the announcement. Previously, Mazda has licensed Toyota's hybrid tech and assembled compact cars for Toyota in Mexico. Akio Toyoda said these projects "triggered" the automakers to explore further collaboration. Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager for AutoPacific, said the tie-up echoes Daimler's wide-ranging work with the Renault-Nissan alliance. "This could be a well-groomed match due to each having very unique skill sets," he said. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Volvo selects South Carolina for US factory Volvo confirmed this week that it will build its first US factory in South Carolina, with construction set to begin this fall. The company first revealed plans in March, though it didn't announce a site. The plant will have initial annual production of 100,000 units, though the vehicle or vehicles to be assembled were not specified. The factory, located near Charleston, will open in 2018 and ultimately employ 4,000 people. The facility will help Volvo continue its growth strategy, which includes strengthening its presence in the US market, where it wants to sell more than 100,000 cars per year. "Building a plant in the US is a reflection of Volvo Cars' commitment to the US and the key role the US plays in our growth objectives," Lex Kerssemakers, senior vice president, Americas, said in a statement. Ford GT spied on the road The 2017 Ford GT was spotted testing around the Blue Oval's headquarters in Dearborn, MI, this week. The raw body panels were exposed, and they lacked paint or camouflage. It's the first time the GT has been captured on the street after a spring of auto show reveals.
