It has come time to sell my baby.  I know I will regret it one day very soon, but I have bought another rod and its time to say good bye. So, here we go...

This is a 1929 Ford Model A Tudor w Henry Ford Steel body that was professionally built by a rod shop for an entertainment big wig out here in LA about 10 years ago.  Absolutely everything, and I do mean everything was done to this car, and done right.  This is why I originally bought it.....its all DONE.  It was done in true Hot Rod style and it was done right.  The last owner cruised it for 8 years, and then I bought it 2 years ago.  It has done nothing but run like a top.  Her name is the Fireball and she's been my Sunday car for the past couple years.  Here is the long list of mods & improvements....

1932 Grill up front to give it that unmistakable deuce iconic look.  The Henry Steel sits on a TCI frame with Mustang 2 front suspension w coil over shocks on all 4 corners.  The car sits low and has a really nice rake to it with 14" American Racing TTII polished wheels & BFGs w white lettering out in front and the same but 15" out in the back.  Its look and rake is perfect and its low, but still a very nice ride, corners like a roadster, has low center of gravity, and the driver side tire can rub a bit when fully turning left but that comes w the territory in a lowered rod, and of course its rough on bumpy roads, but smooth as silk on good flat roads.  Its got the full fat fender look which I think is awesome.  This car drives straight, and brakes straight.  It hugs the road, moves when you hit the gas, and feels solid when you drive it.

The engine is a high performance Chevy 350 installed 3 years ago with a loopy cam and high compression which is awesome in this little light car.  Its got a Holly carb w polished intake manifold and headers, along with chrome accessories and air filter.  The exhaust goes thru rod mufflers all the way to the back where its dumped by twin chrome tips for a great sound.  This car sounds bad ass when its running.  When you start it, people KNOW its a real hot rod with that classic bah-bah-bah-bah-bah engine sound.  Its got a turbo TH350 automatic transmission with a floor shift that shifts crisp and had a full tranny service 130 miles ago so you're running nice red fluid.  The power goes back to your Ford 9" rear end with the perfect gears for cruising.  I recently put a new battery in it which is under the rear seat.  Its steered by a new chrome tilt column and a billet style steering wheel, and even for a big fella like me, 6'1' and 205lbs, its still comfortable as you can tilt the billet steering wheel out of your lap, and of course hang out the window.  This car runs at 180 degrees and has never overheated.  I live at the top of a big hill so there's the proof it runs cool up the hill every week.

The paint is about 10 years old I think and its not perfect.  Its pretty good, but it has some chips, peels, cracks here and there with some surface rust where those chips are (see pics).  There is no other rust on this car that I have seen.  This was the type of project that probably was sandblasted down to the metal before even starting, so I don't think anything was covered up.  I actually liked the few chips here and there, because it lets you know its a rod, its driven, and its not a trailer queen.  The painted fire down the side is awesome and this car gets just as many looks and thumbs up and head nods as you would think, everywhere you go.

The doors are both shaved and both sides have door poppers with a foot button under the running board on both side which is really cool because you walk up to the car, lift your foot, and the door pops open.  Poppers, as always, can sometime need grease, or be testy, but work perfect 95% of the time.  All the glass is good and all 4 side windows roll up and down, the windshield hinges out and locks, which is awesome for cruising and the rear glass is fixed.  The rear 3 windows have cool dark limo style tint so you can't really see whats in the back.  The big chrome headlights have the orange blinkers inside them which is cool, and the tear drop tail lights were smoothed into the rear bumper for a finished look along with a 3rd brake light for modern safety.  All lights and blinkers work, and when you turn on your lights at night, there's green ground effects for some extra fun.  The top was done in a custom black canvas to give it a great custom look.  When it was shipped at some point, it looks like motor oil dripped onto it in one spot. Its hard to see unless you look, and you could likely steam clean it out w some degreaser, I've just been lazy.  It has a classic old "baa-oooga" type horn which is awesome but the contact in the steering wheel is funky, and it only works sometimes when you're making a turn and you hit it.

Interior is all new grey and black tweed with full back seat and reclining buckets up front.  It has a Vintage Air conditioning system, but it does not blow cold.  I never had time to take it to get fixed, but its all there, all hooked up, high quality system and probably just needs a charge.  The heater works great for chilly nites and is fun to cruise with the windows down and the heater on with your lady.  I put lap belts in all 4 seats so the kids can cruise with you safely.  The car has an Alpine stereo w removable faceplate which has XM radio, plays CDS, and DVDs can play on the fold down television in the back.  Yes, you ready that correctly, which is great for the kids.  There is an amplifier under the seat along with speakers in each door, and a custom speaker box in the back that goes where the kids feet would normally go.  Its sounds great, and cranks pretty loud.  There is also a display screen on dashboard but I've never been able to use it, it needs some code or something.    The gauges are Auto meter vintage style instruments and they all work.  A couple of the A/C heat buttons are missing, but that's just an opportunity to put some skulls on them.

I wanted to give this car a bit more vintage authenticity and coolness so I added real 1929 license plates that were professionally restored and cleared with California DMV.  They were not cheap, and they look amazing, and the car is actually licensed and registered under those plates.  I took the front one off as I was going to fab a custom bracket instead of clamp it to the chrome bar, but never got the chance.  I have it and its in perfect condition.

The car is done, its awesome, and its ready for its new owner.  I've had it 2 years and driven it only 500 miles on Sundays with the kids.  I have a new hot rod and so this one must go.  If you are looking for a rod to tinker on, and cruise with no problems, with ALL the big money already spent, this is it.  Literally, everything is done on this, other than whatever customizations you might personally like.  You can start and drive this anywhere.  The original owner of this spent a GRIP building this car, and the opportunity to get such a great car for a fraction of what he paid is a pretty rad opportunity that I had to wait for about 3 years searching on ebay to find this one, and when I saw it, I KNEW, instantly, that it would be mine whatever it took.

Please look at my ebay history, I am very straight forward and tell it like it is, with no BS, and I expect the same from any buyer.  There are no surprises in this listing and I have done my best to explain everything I know about this car.  Some of the information was given to me from the guy I bought it from.  Please bid with confidence.  $500 deposit due immediately upon winning the auction.  I do not want trades so please do not ask.  I reserve the right to sell this car off ebay and end the auction early.

New Ford dedicated hybrid due in 2018, will it fare better than C-Max?

Fri, Aug 22 2014

Everyone likes to go after the champ. When it comes to fuel economy, that means taking on the Prius, which is something that automakers not named Toyota have been trying to do for years. Just because no one has been able to beat the Prius for fuel economy numbers isn't stopping them from trying. Hyundai was just caught with a potential Prius-fighter and now we have news that Ford is joining the party. Well, is going to join again. The last time Ford said it was going to challenge the Prius, it didn't go quite as planned. The C-Max hybrid was heavily hyped as a Prius-beater and was originally rated at 47 miles per gallon. Of course, it later needed to be recalculated to just 40 mpg and sales tanked. So, it's back to the Blue Oval drawing board, according to Automotive News, which is reporting that Ford is readying a brand new gas-electric hybrid due in 2018 as a 2019 model year vehicle. A plug-in version is in the works, too, and the car will reportedly share a platform with the upcoming next-gen Focus and Escape models. About those C-Max sales. They have not been stellar for the C-Max hybrid, which started strong but suffered when the reality of the lower fuel economy was realized. So far in 2014 (through the end of July), Ford has sold 11,685 gas-electric models and another 4,759 plug-in Energi versions. The trend for the standard C-Max is downward (from 20,125 during the same time frame in 2013) and upward for the plug-in version (2,915 in the first seven months of 2013).

Autoblog editors choose their favorite racecars of all time

Thu, Feb 26 2015

If you like cars, there is a good chance that you like racecars. There's something about the science and the art of going faster, of competition, of achievement, that accelerates the hearts of enthusiasts. It doesn't matter the series, the team or the manufacturer – there's something about racing that stirs emotions and lifts spirits. It's that way with many of you, and it's that way with our editors. With that in mind, we offer a list of our favorite racecars of all time. Of course, we'd like to hear some of yours in the comment section below. 1970 Porsche 917 Compared to some of the obscure choices by my colleagues, I feel like the Porsche 917 is almost so obvious a pick as to not be worth mentioning. Still, when coming up with my answer, my mind invariably went back to this classic racer – specifically in its blue-and-orange Gulf livery – while watching Le Mans on DVD and later Blu Ray with my dad. Long, low and curvaceous, few vehicles have ever looked sexier lapping a track than the 917. More than just a pretty face, this beauty had speed, too, thanks to several tunes of flat-12 engines over the course of its racing life. In the early '70s, Porsche was a dominant force throughout sports-car competition, and the 917 (shown above at the 1970 24 Hours of Daytona) was the tip of that spear, including back-to-back victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Largely without dialogue or really much of a traditional plot, Le Mans is like a tone poem of racing goodness. While the 917's importance to motorsports history is undoubtedly fascinating, it's still this cinematic depiction of the Porsche racer that draws me in most, especially with the volume cranked. – Chris Bruce Associate Editor 1964 Mini Cooper S How could everyone not be selecting the 1964 Mini Cooper S piloted by Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon? That car, 33 EJB, took the first of British Motor Corporation's four Monte Carlo Rally wins (it should have been five, but French judges got the British Minis [and Fords] disqualified on a technicality regarding headlights... which its own car, the winning DS, was also in violation of). The tiny red car and its white roof beat out Ford Falcons, Mercedes-Benz 300SEs and scores of Volvos, Volkswagens and Saabs. This, along with the several years of dominance that followed, cemented the idea that not only could the tiny, two-tone Mini be a real performance vehicle, but that family-friendly city cars in general could be fun.

Ford Mustang, F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator recalled

Wed, Apr 27 2016

The Basics: Ford will recall 201,900 examples of the 2011-2012 F-150, 2012 Expedition, 2012 Mustang, and 2012 Lincoln Navigator. The affected vehicles have the 6R80 transmission. Of the total, there are 84,000 of them in the United States and 17,900 in Canada. The Problem: The output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame can force the gearbox to downshift into first gear. If this happens at high speed, it could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. Injuries/Deaths: There are no reported injuries, but Ford know of three accidents related to this problem. The Fix: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to eliminate the problem, and they'll also replace the transmission lead frame. If You Own One: Ford will begin notifying affected customers by mail on May 23. Related Video: FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES THREE SAFETY RECALLS AND TWO SAFETY COMPLIANCE RECALLS IN NORTH AMERICA DEARBORN, Mich., April 27, 2016 – Ford Motor Company is issuing three safety recalls and two safety compliance recalls in North America. Details are as follows: Ford issues safety recall and customer satisfaction program for certain 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles in North America to update powertrain control module software and inspect for certain diagnostic trouble codes Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 202,000 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles for a potential issue with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. Under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear. Depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition. Affected vehicles are equipped with a 6R80 transmission and include certain 2011-2012 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Truck Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through March 9, 2012; 2012 Ford Expedition vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Dec. 19, 2011; Ford Mustang vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Feb.
