Hi, I’m selling my fully restored 1929 Model A Ford because it is time to downsize.   This car was my late wife’s favorite (she named it Harrison Ford) and she often drove it in parades and for Sunday drives. I bought it in 2000 for $6000 and over the next six years spent $71,000 having it restored by a professional (paperwork included in sale).  I wanted a dependable driving car. 

 

First the car was stripped to the frame and the frame straightened and trued, then the following were replaced: the fenders, headlights, correct cloth covered wiring (with a fuse added for protection), headlight bar, radiator, radiator shell, radiator rock protector, running boards, roof, roof oak supports, bumpers, tail lights (another light added to rear fender), safety windshield and door glass, upholstery (leBaron Bonney), new wood floor, hot water fed heater installed, new instruments, new steering wheel, new shocks, new brakes, new heavy, duty cast-iron brake drums, brake floaters, tires, tubes, wheels, lug nuts, transmission rebuilt with synchronized second and third gears, rear end rebuilt with higher gearing, hood, gas tank cleaned and resealed, Weber downdraft carburetor, new headers, new exhaust, electric fuel pump, new fan, fuel filter, leak-less water pump, new alternator, battery, headlamp bulbs are halogen, electronic ignition, engine (1930) rebuilt by previous owner but I had the restoration mechanic tear it down to check it, steering pitman arm shortened, added noise suppression installed, plate underneath the car to keep the passenger’s legs from feeling exhaust heat, new steering gear (so my wife could easily steer it), turn signals added, tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature gauges added, battery cutoff switch installed.  I left it a six-volt system but it could easily be changed over to 12-volts, new windshield wiper (electric). The car was painted to match original paint and the pin stripping was done by hand. I guess it is easier to say that just about the only thing on this car that is original to 1929 is the metal body.  The insurance company told me that it could be classified as a hot rod.  It starts easily, and runs well.  It will easily go faster than 60 but with the large wheels and high center of gravity I keep it at 50 to 55. It will stop quickly and could be a daily driver.  I think you could drive this car for long distances if you wanted. It doesn’t overheat in a hot July parade. The doors close perfectly and it has door locks.  It has seatbelts, wind wings.  Well, there’s not much more I could have done to it except switch it over to a 12-volt system.  

 

It does have some minor paint chips and flaws because I live on a ranch a mile and a half from a blacktop road.  It is kept in a heated garage and never driven if there is a cloud in the sky. I have a logbook with it.  It looks like a stock, beautiful, 1929 car but it is dependable and basically trouble free.  A leather-covered trunk comes with it and the little American flags so you can drive it in the July 4th parade – I always do. If you are looking for a car that you can spend many happy hours beating out dents in the fenders or if you like rewrapping the water pump with string on the way to Sunday lunch while your wife gives you the “ray”, or you enjoy the smell of gas dripping from a 1929 carburetor, then this car is NOT for you.  I will be happy to answer any questions.  I could deliver it for expenses within 500 miles or so of Hysham, Montana.  I have put 3430 miles on it since its restoration was completed in 2006. Man chases down truck thief and steams it all on Facebook

A Washington man chased down a truck stolen from his family's dealership last Saturday and livestreamed the event on Facebook. According to KOMO, a 2005 Ford F-250 was stolen from Sunrise Auto Sales in Eatonville, Washington on the morning of October 8. Aaron Babcock, who co-owns the small dealership with his father David, told reporters that after reviewing surveillance footage, he later spotted the truck while riding his motorcycle on Webster Road East. "I watched my cameras and found the video of a man lurking around and ending up taking off with my truck," Babcock told KOMO. "Cops came and made a case. Three hours later I was on my motorcycle in Graham, and they drove by me oncoming. It still had dealer stickers on it. It said diesel on the window and it had our dealer plate on it. It stuck out like a sore thumb. It was really easy to see." Once he spotted the stolen Super Duty, he wheeled his bike around and gave chase. He attempted to call 911, but was unsure if the dispatcher heard him due to noise from the wind and the bike's engine. So he fired up Facebook live and started streaming his chase, giving running commentary and updating his location as he chased the slow-moving truck. "I wasn't going to let him get away. I was going to try follow him down. I had no idea what to do," Babcock said. "Nobody could hear me on the phone so I just figured the first thing to do is pull up Facebook live." Babcock's Facebook friends pitched in by calling 911 to report the chase and even jumping in their own cars to follow the truck. At one point, he pulled alongside the truck and recognized both men in the cab. The driver was the man seen lurking around the dealer lot in the surveillance video, and the passenger was an old friend of Babcock's. "I know who you are!" he shouted at them, but the hunkered down and kept driving. Eventually, Babcock lost cell phone signal and the livestream ended. Eatonville police, who by this point were well aware of the incident, caught up with the truck in the 8400 block of 356th Street South in Eatonville. The driver was arrested and the passenger was questioned and released. Both denied stealing the vehicle or knowing it was stolen. Sergio Marchionne isn't taking no for an answer. Despite public rebuffs from General Motors and Ford, the leader of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles continues to push for consolidation within the auto industry. His latest assertion came Wednesday when he said a combination of FCA with another automaker could net savings of $5 billion or more annually. No, this isn't about selling his company, he claimed, it's about cutting costs. Put simply, the auto industry wastes money, Marchionne said during FCA's earnings conference call. Companies invest billions to develop basic components that all cars use, but many consumers don't care how they work or recognize the differences. "About half of this is really relevant in terms of positioning the car in the marketplace," he said. "The other half, in our view, is stuff which is neither visible to the consumer nor is it relevant to the consumer." In 2014, top automakers spent more than $100 million on product development, FCA estimated. Marchionne said consolidation could save up to $1 billion on powertrains alone, noting that almost every automaker offers four- and six-cylinder engines. Not everyone has to make their own, he contended. "The consumer could not give a flying leap whose engines we are using because they are irrelevant to the buying decision." That's pretty provocative for enthusiasts, but less so for average consumers. Still, there are major differences in power and efficiency ratings, even among similar engines. Skeptics could argue consolidation would also weaken competition and reduce choices for car buyers. Marchionne stressed his presentation, curiously entitled Confessions of a Capital Junkie, wouldn't require closing factories or dealerships. It's not his final "big deal" as CEO, intent to sell FCA, or a way to elevate his company up the automotive food chain. He claims he wants to fundamentally change the industry and its habit for burning cash. "The horrible part about this, and the thing that I find most offensive, is that the capital consumption rate is duplicative," he said. "It doesn't deliver real value to the consumer and it is in its purest form, economic waste." Ford not backing down on MPG-based marketing strategy

The Blue Oval may have to back off a bit from the green messaging. Ford has had to lower fuel-economy ratings on a number of 2013 and 2014 model-year vehicles, namely its hybrids. And that may force the US automaker to rethink some of its marketing strategy, Automotive News reports. Ford has spent much of the year pushing its fuel-efficiency improvements, with everything from a Super Bowl ad saying its Fusion Hybrid gets "almost double" the fuel efficiency of an average vehicle (after the recalculation, it's now more like 75 percent better) to claiming the Fiesta is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid in the US (it's actually the Mitsubishi Mirage) to stating the C-Max Hybrid gets better fuel economy than the Toyota Prius V (it doesn't). Nonetheless, Ford doesn't plan on changing its mpg marketing emphasis anytime soon, the company said in an e-mailed statement to AutoblogGreen. "Providing customers great fuel economy is a key part of our Ford vehicle DNA." "Providing customers great fuel economy is a key part of our Ford vehicle DNA," the company said. "We will continue to highlight our vehicles features and attributes in our advertising and marketing, which includes fuel economy and fuel-saving technologies like EcoBoost and hybrids." Earlier this month, Ford said it would lower the fuel-economy ratings of models such as the C-Max, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ Hybrids as well as most of the Fiesta line because of mistakes in the company's internal testing data. It was the second change for the C-Max Hybrid. The good news for Ford is that its fleetwide fuel economy is up almost 40 percent from a decade ago, compared to an improvement of around 23 percent for Toyota. Still, while sales of Ford hybrids and plug-ins are about even with last year through the first five months of 2014, C-Max Hybrid sales have plunged 49 percent from a year earlier. Earlier this year, Ford admitted that the first fuel economy downgrade had a negative effect on sales and we can find proof in the numbers. Before that the change was announced, in August 2013, Ford was consistently selling over 2,000 – and sometimes over 3,000 – C-Max Hybrids a month. In September, it dropped to 1,424, then to 1,438 in October. It didn't climb back above 2,000 until May 2014. The second mpg adjustment was announced in June.
