The car also called as the 'Fordmobile' was a two-seater runabout or a four-seater tonneau model. The Model A came in a wide gamut of body styles; Coupe (Standard and Deluxe), Sport Coupe, Business Coupe, Roadster Coupe (Standard and Deluxe), Convertible Cabriolet, Convertible Sedan, Fordor (2-window) (Standard and Deluxe), Fordor (3-window) (Standard and Deluxe), Victoria, Station Wagon, Taxicab, Truck, and Commercial. The last of the Model As rolled out of the production line in 1931 being replaced by the updated Model B. In the year 1978, Harry J. Shay established the Model A and Model T Motor Car Reproduction Corporation, with the goal of reincarnating the early Ford models for procurement in modern times. In 1980, the name of the company was changed to Shay Motors and other potential Ford models were added to the reproduction list. Shay was given the authority to reproduce the Model A in limited number. The Model A cars were true to their heritage and hence lacked some of the modern features. They were sold through Ford dealerships. Shay set out with a vision of Manufacturing Model A in different body styles such as Super Deluxe Roadster, Standard Roadsters, and Deluxe Roadsters and also the special series models such as College Classic, Golden Oldie, Polar Bear, and a panel truck. The Super Deluxe Roadster was found to be the most popular. The Model A has a 4 cylinder, 140.3 cubic inch engine that is located in the front. The car is a rear wheel drive. It is equipped with a 4-gear manual transmission. Harry Shay has around 5000 Model A Roadsters and 200 Thuderbird Replicas to his credit. In 1983, Camelot Motors purchased the patents, tools and equipments of Shay Corporation and started producing the Model A replicas. Former Ford president, Jaguar chairman Nick Scheele dead at 70
Sun, 20 Jul 2014We have the privilege here at Autoblog of reporting a lot of good news, but it is our duty as well to report the bad news and sad news as well. And this is one of those occasions as the automotive industry mourns the passing of one of its leaders.
Nick Scheele was born in the UK in 1944 and joined the Ford Motor Company upon graduating from the University of Durham in 1966, staying within the Blue Oval's portfolio for the entirety of his career. After moving to North America in 1978, he rose through the ranks to become president of Ford's Mexican operations in 1988. After acquiring Jaguar, Ford appointed Scheele as its chairman.
Scheele subsequently acted as chairman of all of Ford's European operations, making difficult decisions to take the division out of the red and into the black. He briefly headed up Ford's North American division before he was appointed in 2001 as president and chief operating officer of the global automaker, working under CEO Bill Ford following the departure of Jacques Nasser departure and retaining the role until his retirement in 2005.
Ford recalling nearly 700k Escape CUVs, C-Max hybrids over two separate safety issues
Fri, 09 May 2014Poor Escape. Ever since its launch in 2012, Ford's small CUV has been the subject of many, many, many recalls. And today, The Detroit News is reporting that Ford is adding two more recalls to the 2013-14 model year Escape's permanent record, one of them also involves the C-Max hybrid hatchback.
The first recall, covering 692,500 Escape and C-Max vehicles, is due to a software glitch that could cause the airbags - specifically, the safety canopy - to not deploy in a timely fashion during rollover crashes. According to the News, Ford says no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to this problem.
The second recall, covering 692,700 Escapes, is related to the door handles. The News reports that the exterior door handles could open while the vehicle is in motion, and could also fail to latch properly. Once again, no crashes or injuries have occurred because of this. The National Highway Safety Traffic Administration has not issued an official notice on either recall as of this writing.
Long winter means most automakers won't curb summer shutdown
Sun, 18 May 2014A lot more happened during this latest brutal winter than days of snow and Netflix binges. Automotive sales took a battering. After all, going out car shopping when it's eleventy-billion degrees below zero isn't a good time.
Because of this Old Man Winter-induced sales slump, inventories are abnormally high as we head into the summer car buying season. That's led some analysts to predict that automakers will be more inclined to idle factories this summer, in a bid to trim some of the built-up inventory. Traditionally, American manufacturers offer up a two-week break in the middle of summer, although the burgeoning sales of the past few years have seen this practice become less popular.
"We're likely not going to see an acceleration this year," Jeff Schuster, a senior vice president at LMC Automotive, told The Detroit News. "We'll see production increases in 'pockets' but I don't know if it will be as widespread as in recent years."
