Full-sized '60s luxury muscle is red hot in the market right now, and cars like this 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 hardtop are the reason why. Built with equal amounts of performance and comfort, full-sized cars like this can cruise cross-country effortlessly, and still dispatch lesser machines in the stop light grand prix.
The door tag says this one came from the factory in two-tone Ivy Green over Sauterne Gold and today this car wears a beautiful coat of that correct color combination. Laying flat on the straight sheetmetal, those earthy tones highlight each other nicely and show crisp reflections. All of the correct trim and emblems are present, giving it an authentic look while chrome bumpers grace the front and rear of the long car. The doors, hood, and trunk fit very nicely and shut with the authority you would expect from a late model European luxury automobile. Classic Magnum 500 wheels provide some muscular appeal and are wrapped in fresh white wall tires.
Inside, light ivy gold "Crinkle" vinyl and light ivy gold "Olympia" pattern cloth covers the front and rear bench for a very handsome look. The car underwent a restoration in 2003, however, the workmanship is so good and the materials are accurate that it definitely passes for a well-maintained original. The seats are firm and comfortable, with no splits or tears in the covers, and the matching carpets are excellent. A two-tier dashboard puts the speedometer and AM radio up high where they're easy to see, while the auxiliary and air conditioning controls are in their own pod just below. But for the sake of preserving the factory dash, an AM/FM radio and three Sunpro gauges measuring oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature have been mounted below.
Power comes from a 289 cubic inch V8, which powers the relatively lightweight Galaxie with ease. Dressed in Ford Blue with a black block and heads, it looks very period appropriate. It runs beautifully, typically firing up with a single turn of the key and idling with a smooth hum that fits the cars luxury/performance mission perfectly. Note the power steering and power brakes, which make this car a pleasure to drive, as well as the 3-speed automatic transmission which clicks through the gears cleanly.
This Galaxie 500 is a clean, honest car that will give years of happy motoring; it offers identical performance and more comfort than a Mustang, all for a fraction of the price. This is your chance if you've been looking for some muscular performance, classic looks, and luxurious comfort. Call today!

The United Auto Workers union is about to enter a new round of negotiations with the Detroit Three automakers, and this time, the focus is on the end of the two-tier wage system. Introduced in 2007, the two-tier wage system was enacted to allow General Motors, Ford and Chrysler to categorize its hourly employees under two categories: Tier 1 for veteran employees with full rights and benefits, and Tier 2 for short-term or entry-level employees compensated under a different schedule. The idea was that the system would permit the automakers to invest more in their plants and hire new employees as part of their respective recovery plans without being saddled with all the costs associated with hiring full-time employees. Now that the automakers are (more or less) back on their proverbial feet, however, the UAW wants to see an end to the two-tier system, and will likely make that a center-point of its negotiations next year to replace the current arrangement that is scheduled to end in September 2015. Not all members of the UAW will necessarily be interested in ending the two-tier system, however. According to The Detroit News, some Tier 1 workers may be more interested in negotiating a raise in their hourly rate – something which they haven't received in almost a decade. Tier 2 workers, meanwhile, may be more motivated to keep the tiered system in place, as their arrangement includes provisions for profit-sharing payments that have seen the automakers pay out billions to so-called short-term employees in lump-sum payments. Reconciling the two competing demands from two categories of union members and presenting a united front in negotiations may prove the biggest challenge for the UAW's new president, Dennis Williams. And with the right to strike – something which was suspended during the last round of negotiations in 2011 – the union has a bigger bargaining chip in its pocket.

While we get new and updated car models every year, its inevitable that we'll need to say goodbye to some nameplates as well. This time around, it feels like we have confirmation or reports of an unusually large number of vehicles being discontinued in 2024 and the coming years. We shouldn't be surprised. A large number of automakers are approaching their various target dates for electrification of their fleets. As such, some beloved internal combustion cars are going away, sometimes with appropriate fanfare like special editions. Others are slinking away quietly, killed by slowing sales and changing consumer trends. Of course, the end of production doesn't necessarily mean permanent death. Some of these models could be resurrected in later years ... and probably as an EV. With that in mind, here are the vehicles that are being discontinued in 2024 and beyond.  Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Alfa Romeo ended the production of its combustion-only Quadrifoglio models in April 2024 as the Italian automaker moves toward an electrified future. This isn't the end of the Quadrifoglio entirely, though, with Larry Dominique, Alfa Romeo senior vice president and head of North America, writing, "I look forward to presenting the next chapter in the four-leaf clover’s journey."  Chevrolet Camaro GM is ending production of the Chevy Camaro after 2024, but is sending it off in style with a CollectorÂ’s Edition. WouldnÂ’t it be cool, though, if Chevy brought it back as an EV?  Chevrolet Malibu Rumors of its demise have been around for a while, but now itÂ’s official. GM will end production of the Chevy Malibu in November of 2024. The assembly line in Kansas will be retooled to build the replacement for the Chevy Bolt.  Dodge Durango The three-row Durango is slated to be replaced by the Stealth nameplate after 2024. The Durango name could make a comeback later, according to rumors, on a body-on frame SUV based on the Jeep WagoneerÂ’s platform.  Ford Edge This is the last year for the Edge in the U.S., with the final unit rolling off the assembly line in April. On sale since 2007, the Edge topped 100,000 sales in all but three full years of production.  Ford Escape Newly refreshed for the 2023 model year, FordÂ’s popular Escape compact SUV is reportedly taking its leave in 2025 in order to usher in — you guessed it — an EV in its place.

It would seem Volvo is finally getting around to throwing all of Ford's things out of the apartment. Automotive News reports the Swedish automaker is preparing to unleash a range of new engines as well as a fresh platform designed entirely in house. The powerplants include an all-new four-cylinder engine set to bow before the end of this year before arriving in the US by 2014. Shortly thereafter, the world should get its first glimpse at the next-generation XC60, which will the company's first model to make use of the Volvo scalable platform architecture (SPA). US buyers can expect to see that machine on their roads by early 2015.
The next V70 and S80 will also use the SPA, though those models will carry V90 and S90 designations when they hit dealer floors. But that doesn't mean Volvo has completely weened itself off of Ford technology. The V40 will continue to ride on Ford bones until the model's next chassis can be co-developed between Volvo and Geely.
