1969 Ford Xl Gt Convertible 429 on 2040-cars

Year:1969 Mileage:30000
Location:

Columbus, Ohio, United States

Columbus, Ohio, United States

Please read this entire description before placing a bid on this car.

I have limited knowledge regarding this history of this car because we acquired it in lieu of attorney fees from a client that couldn't pay his rather large bill.  He then moved into a big house where his wardrobe is limited to striped shirts/pants and orange jump suits.  We have no further contact, but we know where he will be living for the next 20 years or so.

What we do know:

This car was his "baby" and he owned it for a long time.  It is an older restoration.  When it was restored, the color was changed from white to the very attractive blue it is now.

THIS IS NOT A SHOW CAR.  However, it very nice for 45 years old and would make an excellent candidate for a full restoration.  The paint job on the old restoration was VERY good quality. The blue metallic paint is smooth as glass and looks better than factory paint.  However it was done a long time ago and shows some wear here and there in the form of a few chips and a few minor scratches.

From 15 feet away, this car is stunning.  Close up, it still looks very nice, but little flaws are visible.

The interior is in amazing condition.  The seats are fully intact with no tears or rips and show very little wear.  It is possible they were redone, and if they were, whomever did it, restored them to the exact style of the original seats (did some research on the design), or quite possibly they may be the originals.

The carpet is definitely original and needs to be replaced....at least on the driver side. I cut out a couple small sections because it was rotted there and falling apart.  On the passenger side it is actually in very good shape, but faded. Carpet dye would make it look great.

While researching pics of these old fords with that dashboard, I have found that many are cracked.  This one is not and looks very nice. Some of the mylar that decorates the instruments and door panel trim (to make it look like chrome) has peeled off, but again as a whole, the interior is exceptional.

The odometer reads 30,000 miles and the title says "actual" on the mileage, but I seriously doubt it is.  Although it drives well for a 45 year old car, it feels like car with more miles.  There is a little play in the steering, but surprisingly, when you are going straight, it takes little or no movement of the wheel to maintain a straight path.  It does not wander left and right.  You can move the wheel a little bit left and right with no turn of the wheels though.

I know nothing of what work the engine has had, but this I know for sure; THIS THING IS FAST. There is no doubt that it could probably use some engine work, because every other time or so that you start it, it lets out some bluish white smoke.  This car has no emissions stuff on it so the exhaust is kind of smelly.  Someone told me that there appears to be a little oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets which can drip onto the hot engine and contribute to the smell.  No other oil leaks though as it has been parked in my garage for a while and there is NOTHING leaking on the floor.

The convertible top is in great condition and the mechanicals work flawlessly.  The rear window is glass and fully intact.

The right passenger window is either off its track, or needs some other repair as it will not go all the way down and is loose.  when it is all the way up, it is tight and stays in place.

Some intellectual giant must have cleared frost from the windshield at one time with something metallic and put a few permanent light scratches on it.  There is also a scratch on the top of the wiper path on the passenger side from use with a missing wiper blade.  These are more noticeable at night when headlights are shinning at you.

The chrome on the front and rear bumpers are in perfect condition and look good as new.  Other chrome including the side mirror, door handles, the grating which goes across the rear, the tail lights and wheel covers all have some pitting or discoloration.  Again, not offensive from a few feet away, but the closer you look, the more you see.

As it sits, I think it would make a fun car to play with on the weekends and great for parades. It would also make great restoration project. It gets a TON of attention when I take it out and people ask a lot of questions and take pictures.  However, if you are looking for a museum piece, this is not it.

A few things to add:

The top is white.

It has only an a/m radio (works perfectly).

It does NOT have A/C.

It has power steering and brakes.

Blow up the pics to get a good look.

Ford Mustang returning to Australia in 2016

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Australia's Herald Sun newspaper has reported that the next-generation Ford Mustang is heading Down Under in 2016, just as Ford is hanging the "Closed for Good" sign on its Australian manufacturing operations and sending the Falcon to its grave. Ford hasn't offered any official word on the matter, but the paper says that Ford's global VP of sales and marketing, Jim Farley, is flying to Australia to make the announcement himself.
While Ford converted Mustangs in the early 2000s from left-hand to right-hand drive for the Australian market and then sold them at high prices, it's been almost five decades since Ford imported a dedicated right-hand-drive Mustang to Oz. The arrival of the global model specifically made for places like Australia and the UK means Ford will also be able to offer them at better prices than the converted models; the Herald Sun says the price is expected to be "close to $50,000."
And that's for one of the "V8 performance models," which are the only ones Australia will get; Ford apparently won't send the turbocharged four cylinder or the V6. The Aussies could find out in a month from now whether this rumor is true. We will all find out what this Mustang fuss is about when the car debuts at next year's New York Auto Show.

Former Ford president, Jaguar chairman Nick Scheele dead at 70

Sun, 20 Jul 2014

We have the privilege here at Autoblog of reporting a lot of good news, but it is our duty as well to report the bad news and sad news as well. And this is one of those occasions as the automotive industry mourns the passing of one of its leaders.
Nick Scheele was born in the UK in 1944 and joined the Ford Motor Company upon graduating from the University of Durham in 1966, staying within the Blue Oval's portfolio for the entirety of his career. After moving to North America in 1978, he rose through the ranks to become president of Ford's Mexican operations in 1988. After acquiring Jaguar, Ford appointed Scheele as its chairman.
Scheele subsequently acted as chairman of all of Ford's European operations, making difficult decisions to take the division out of the red and into the black. He briefly headed up Ford's North American division before he was appointed in 2001 as president and chief operating officer of the global automaker, working under CEO Bill Ford following the departure of Jacques Nasser departure and retaining the role until his retirement in 2005.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
