Up for auction is my 1966 Galaxie 500 7 litre. This is a very clean car and is definitely a "turn key" car.  It's powered by the 345hp 428 C.I. V8 backed by a C6 with a 3.25 traction loc equipped rear end.  The car runs and drives very well.  As a matter of fact, I used it as my everyday driver from May 22nd thru June 10th.  Rain or shine it got driven to work, on errands, to pick my son from school, etc., etc.  It performed FLAWLESSLY!  Starts at the touch of the key.  With exception of the A/C (which is disconnected) EVERYTHING works on this car.  Lights, turn signals, heater, vents, wipers, hazards (yes it has the optional for 1966 Hazard flashers), all windows open and close properly, seat belts intact and functional, trunk light, courtesy lights, door locks, etc., etc..  If you are looking for a turn key "driver" quality classic car, this is definitely the car.  No noise from the rear end, traction loc works well.  Transmission works as it should.  The engine runs great, no smoke, rattles, knocks or ticks.  The car does have slight seepage of a gasket or two but the car does NOT drip OR leave spots.  The Kelsey Hayes power disc brakes are intact and work well.  For the past 10 years, I have participated in the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race held in Stanton , MI.  Everything must be and look original and correct for the car/year.  This is why I put the under hood back to "stock"and had the mandrel bent exhaust made for the car.  I have a large stack or receipts for almost everything done to the car and also a log book of what, when and how much was spent, from the day the previous owner purchased the car.

DRIVETRAIN - The previous owner rebuilt the engine roughly 20 years ago.  There are approximately 3300 miles on the rebuilt engine.  It is rebuilt to stock specifications.  I have parts and machine work receipts for the rebuild along with pictures.  The only thing non-stock about the rebuild is that the previous owner gasket matched the intake ports on the heads and intake manifold.  When purchased, the engine had aftermarket chrome valve covers and air cleaner, Accel yellow wires, a chrome Accel super stock coil and a 650DP Holley. It also has an under-cap Accel electronic ignition conversion.  I have put the engine back to more of a 1966 "correctness" with proper valve covers, painted Hi-Po air cleaner assembly with reproduction air filter, back stock type wires, painted the coil black.  I also located a correct Autolite 4100 1.08 venturi 4 barrel carburetor.  I purchased a set of pre-bent choke tubes for a 428 Mustang and reworked them so as to look correct on this car.  The car ran great with the original type carb, choke worked, etc.  I felt Ford left some performance on the table with such a small carburetor (480 CFM) and I installed a 750 vacuum secondary electric choke Holley.  This carb was modified to look like a factory Ford Holley by changing out the primary float bowl for an original Ford float bowl, using the shortened version of the factory transfer tube and purchased the pre-bent fuel pump to carburetor fuel line.  NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE!  The car runs fantastic with the 750 Holley on it, both the Holley AND the correct carb come with the car. The electric choke on the Holley will be wired up this week and functional.
The transmission works as it should, woks in all gears, no slippage.  In 1966 Ford did an odd thing with the C6 transmission.  In "D", the car would start out in second then shift to drive.  This was supposed to aid in fuel mileage and also traction in snow or on wet surfaces.  I can attest it definitely helps taking off from a light on a wet road!  Move the shifter to the green dot and it performs like all automatics that we are used to.  It starts out in low and shift thru second into drive.  And yes, the kick down rod is in place and functional.
Ford put the heavy duty 9 3/8 rear end with 31 spline axles and large drum brakes.  Its the 9 inches big brother and a 9" center section WILL fit in the 9 3/8 housing.  This car originally came with an open differential but the previous owner changed it over to a traction loc that works well.  Floor it from a stop and the monster torque of the 428 will leave twin stripes.
The exhaust is a work of art.  What was on it when I purchased it was a dual set up that terminated at the rear axle.  I took it to Great Lakes Customs and had a 2 1/2" mandrel exhaust made for it.  Thisis NOT a typical crush bent muffler shop exhaust. Its a beautiful piece of work.  It uses longer bodied Walker Dynomax Turbo  mufflers and it's almost too quiet and it exits in the stock location.
The suspension has had a complete front end rebuild kit installed along with new springs front and rear and also shocks front and rear.  Included with the car are the original springs. It has new tires as well including the spare tire. Wheel cover center caps have new emblems from Galaxie Performance.
As for the A/C, I have the compressor, brackets, idler and hoses and they go with the car.  Everything else is intact on the car and was capped off years ago when the compressor.hoses were removed.  It would be my guess that you could install a new compressor, have new hoses made and the A/C would function.
The radiator has been re-cored, new fan clutch, 180 degree thermostat.  We've had a few mid to high 80's days here already and it does NOT overheat, it doesn't even creep up in stop and go..  Runs right where its supposed to.

INTERIOR - The interior is 99.9% stock original.  Its not 100% because of the under dash gauge set (Autogage Amp, Temp and Oil), the Sun mini-tach, the aftermarket speakers and underdash CD player.  There were already holes in the rear tray, thats why there are speakers mounted there.  The front speakers are mounted to the lower dash using "L" brackets and are easily removed.  The underdash CD player is the same way, it is NOT permanently mounted. The dash pad was re-done by Just dashes and is perfect.  The rest of the interior is original. The seat covers , door panels, visors, headliner, etc are all in FANTASTIC shape.  It is also quite comfortable. All the dash lights work, the heater control work and all the vacuum operated doors for the heater system work properly.  The blower motor works great too.  It does have a factory clock but it is non-functional.  It does need the vertical seal on the 1/4 glass but only on one side. It still wears its original "wood" rimmed steering wheel although there is a 1/2" section missing which is visible in the pictures.  These wheels are reproduced and available through the Mustang parts houses.  Yes, the horn works.

BODY/PAINT - The body is very solid, with the only rust being a couple small pin holes on the passenger rear quarter panel (shown in pictures) and it has some of the typical trunk pan rust (also shown in pictures).  Frame, floors, doors fenders and everything else is rock solid.  I was told that it came from Tennessee and then went to Missouri.  The person I purchased it from owned it for 20 years and it was in a heated garage here in the metro Detroit area all that time.  It does come with its own custom fit car cover. I have never found the trunk pan to be wet after washing the car.  You really must look at all the pictures in the Photobucket album to see for yourself how solid this car really is.  ALL of the moldings are intact.  Some of the pictures will show it missing the lower rear 1/4 panel molding but a friend found this piece for me at last weekends Ford s at Carlilse and I do have a picture of it installed.  Its condition is a perfect match for the rest of the car.  And speaking of trim, its ALL there and the chrome on the die cast pieces like the Grill and hood spear are in great shape.  The paint is wjat I would rate as an 8 on the "driver quality" paint scale.  Not perfect but it presents well, it shines nicely but as it's 20+ years old it does have some chips and very minor scratches which are hard to get on camera.  The car gets compliments almost everywhere I go, young and old alike.  All the glass is original and is in good condition although the windshield has 3 chips in it.  I'd rather have original glass with a couple chips than replacement glass but idf you have vehicle inspections, you may or may not have to have the windshield replaced.

While I do not have a paper trail to prove that the 35,986 miles are original and not rolled over, it was the opinion of the person who appraised the car 20 years ago that the miles are original.  I was also lucky enough to have the owner of the 1967 Full sized Ford Registry come and inspect the car and he is also of the opinion that the miles are original.  I also have a sheet with casting numbers and casting dates for anyone interested in the car.  The car has been in the 7 Litre registry since 1993 and is number 814.  I also have stacks of receipts and documentation on just about everything done to the car. Included with the car is a custom fit car cover, the A/C components, both carburetors plus the pre-bent pump to carb line for the 4100,, 2 extra steel wheels, a 1965 dash cluster, the original springs, the original pistons from the engine, the chrome valve covers, distributor cap and Accel wires that were on the car when I purchased it.  I also have the original set of keys.

Again, if there is a car that fits the term "turn key", this is definitely it.  Please do not ask my reserve, my reserve AND my buy it now are spot on where this car falls withing the condition range. I urge you to look at ALL the pictures, in this auction AND in the Photobucket album before bidding.  As nice as the car is, it is still a 47 year old vehicle and is sold in AS IS condition with absolutely no warranty.  I have described it to the best of my ability and if I have left something out it's not intentional. I have sold 4 other cars on E-bay, ALL with positive feedback.  One of those (1973 Gran Torino Sport) even went over to England and the owner purchased ANOTHER car from me.  If I don't have pictures of an area on the car you would like to see, request one and I'll snap a few.  If you'd like to inspect the vehicle PRIOR to bidding, I have no objections to that either.  There will be no inspections upon vehicle pick up.  You win it, you pay for it.  As for payment, a non-refundable $500 Paypal deposit is due within 24 HOURS of the auctions end and payment is due withing 72 hours of the auctions ends.  Period.  I had an issue with this on a vehicle about 6 years ago and will not go through that again.  Don't expect to show up with a check and then drive/trailer the car away either.  Any cashiers or certified bank check must be verified by my bank before the vehicle leaves.  I have found wire transfers work great.  I do wish I didn't have to add all of this as I'm a pretty trusting guy but all it takes is one person to ruin it for everyone else.  Feedback will be left by me once I receive feedback from the buyer.  Please make sure your kid doesn't bid and that you have your spouses approval, funds, etc prior to bidding.

You may also call me at 517-402-6873 during the evenings if you would like to discuss any questions you may have about the car.

SHIPPING! Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.  I will assist and work with your transport company on a pick up time.  The car can be picked up at my place of employment or I can deliver to an area two blocks from my home for easy loading.  Again, all shipping COSTS are the responsibility of the winning bidder.

HAPPY BIDDING and GOOD LUCK!

Next-gen Ford Cobra Jet development underway, but will it be a Mustang?

Wed, 09 Oct 2013

Ford might be stepping away from the NHRA, but it isn't abandoning drag racing altogether. Hot Rod says that Ford confirmed a next-gen Cobra Jet factory drag racer is in the works, but the report also speculates that a new Cobra Jet could switch away from the Mustang nameplate.
Even though talk of a new Cobra Jet coincides with the all-new 2015 Mustang, the lack of confirmation for the dragster's platform leaves Hot Rod to guess that the car might switch to another platform - specifically a front-drive-based, unibody car like the Fusion or Taurus. We'd hate to think of a world with a NASCAR-ized dragster from Ford Racing, but it's also highly unlikely that the Mustang Cobra Jet would step away from its quarter-mile rivals like the Chevy COPO Camaro and Dodge Challenger Drag Pak.

Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri

Mon, Sep 19 2016

Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:

The biggest gas-guzzlers of 2024: 'The Meanest List' is the opposite of greenest cars

Thu, Mar 14 2024

In some circles — especially some automotive circles — bigger is better. This explains the Hummer, for example. In its so-called “Meanest List” of a dozen models, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) makes no apologies for berating “the worst-performing mass market automobiles” sold in 2024 in the U.S. The most diminutive car on the list is a Chevy Corvette Z06. At the top of this particular heap is the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, a gas-powered SUV that the environmental agency says was “the worst-performing vehicle of the more than 1,200 models assessed by Greener Cars and has an annual fuel cost over $4,000.” Not to mention its MSRP of around $184,000. Rank Make & Model Powertrain Green Score MSRP Estimated Annual Fuel Cost* 1 Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 Gas 20 $184,000 $4,242 2 Ram 1500 TRX 4x4 Gas 22 $98,335 $3,819 3 Ford F150 Raptor R Gas 24 $79,975 $3,777 4 Cadillac Escalade V Gas 26 $152,295 $3,388 5 Dodge Durango SRT Gas 26 $74,995 $3,332 6 Jeep Wrangler 4dr 4X4 Gas 27 $35,895 $3,260 7 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4x4 Gas 28 $91,945 $3,058 8 Mercedes-Benz G550 Gas 28 $143,000 $3,186 9 GMC Hummer EV SUV EV 29 $98,845 $1,746 10 GMC Sierra Gas 29 $37,700 $3,069 11 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Gas 30 $114,395 $3,169 12 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S680 Gas 30 $234,300 $3,031 *ACEEE analysis using EIA data of the annual cost of driving 15,000 miles In terms of numbers, the dirty dozen of the meanest includes seven SUVs and three trucks. Lonely at the middle of the list is the sole electric, the GMC Hummer EV, which weighs in at 9,000 pounds. The council notes that “though EVs have lower emissions than similarly sized gasoline models, the Hummer demonstrates that size and efficiency, not just fuel source, are important factors in a carÂ’s environmental impact.” ItÂ’s also worth reminding prospective buyers that the average fuel cost of a vehicle on the “Greenest List” eats up only a fifth of the fuel cost of a vehicle on the Meanest List, “showing that greener options can also be more affordable.” The ACEEE also put out a "Greener List" of efficient gasoline and hybrid cars that don't require plugging in.  By the Numbers Green Cadillac Chevrolet Dodge Ford GMC Hummer Jeep Maybach Mercedes-Benz RAM Emissions Fuel Efficiency Green Automakers Truck SUV Electric Hybrid
