The Good
-Runs & Drives, shifts good
-NEW Disc brake conversion (front only) includes proportion valve, vacuum booster, master cylinder, rotors, calipers
-NEW Interior, from carpet to headliner
-NEW Electronic Ignition conversion (no points)
-NEWLY rebuilt rear end (third member) by Dan's Driveline
-Body is straight and solid, no bondo that I can find, rockers, inner fenders and floors are solid as can be
-NEW door weather stripping, window felts
-NEW trunk weather seal
-All gauges work, has an aftermarket temp gauge
-NEW LED lights in dash, no bulbs. 25+ year life.
-NEW slave cylinder in driver rear brakes. NEW brake line in driver rear.
-Glass packed exhaust sounds nice
-Lots of new and old parts available, especially mechanical.
-Haggerty puts the value at like $12K
-Title in my name, Nevada
-Cheap to license and insure

The Bad
-Cheap tint job that needs to be removed
-Little hard to start after sits, may just be the check valve in the fuel line???
-Front end could use new bushings, tends to wander a bit on the road, maybe just a characteristic of the car??
-Paint is rough. I didnt want to paint it and put off buyers who care about the color.
-Cracking windshield
-Someone did a half ass job putting front and back glass in, there is black gooey stuff all around the edges...
-Driver window regulator may need replacing, or possibly could be adjusted out, leaves a small gap when rolled up, sometimes.

The Meh..
-Edelbrock 1405 Carb
-American racing wheels
-Tires are OK. Look good, but a bad alignment has worn them unevenly. Should be rotated, or fronts replaced...?? Rears are good.
-No speakers or modern stereo. I built a new rear deck, would be easy to install system, door panels are new, could be cut for speakers.
-Grant steering wheel kit on it, I have the original wheel but i think the horn ring wont go on due to broken center bit.
-"Galaxie 500" badge is in two or three pieces, I have it. I think they look terrible anyway, placement is on the front fender traditionally
-Brake pedal is a bit high, only takes a minute to get used to, could be adjusted by putting spacer between vacuum booster and fire wall or a shorter eye bolt to the pedal.
-Odometer says 13,xxx is it 213,xxx? 113,xxx? who knows
-Cruise-o-Matic trans (has two Drive positions, one starts in 1st gear, the other starts it off in 2nd)
-Had factory air, someone ripped it out, still has plumbing.

1947 Chevy rat rod pickup leaves rubber and smoke in its wake

Thu, 08 May 2014

Cool comes in multiple flavors. One one hand, we have the sophisticated attraction of svelte design and the efficient use of power. Of course, on the other hand there is the allure of being the bad boy and going against the grain. That is part of the appeal of rat rods. Ideally, they are built without rules to an owner's specific tastes, and this widened and heavily modified 1947 Chevrolet pickup rod is a perfect example of that spirit.
Coming down the highway with a bent grille, rusted body and pouring smoke, it looks like the pickup from hell. It backs up the looks with some very impressive mechanicals too. Owner Troy Gubser says that the truck packs a Ford Power Stroke diesel with to 42 pounds of boost that runs out of 8-inch exhaust stacks at the back. He claims it managed 505 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. To harness all that power, this hot rod has a ZF five-speed manual gearbox with a ceramic clutch and short-throw shifter. Plus, it has cool little features like a doorbell on the tailgate that operates an air horn.
You might not expect a truck like this to actually be useful, but it has a fifth wheel coupling to haul an RV around drag races and car shows. The air suspension also probably keeps the ride fairly comfy when Gubser wants it to be. Scroll down to check out this beastly rat rod pickup and watch it engage in some diesel drag racing. Warning, there is some NSFW language.

Galpin Ford GTR1 supercar debuts in Monterey

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

Galpin Auto Sports has finally taken the wraps off the car we first previewed back in December, the Galpin Ford GTR1. A few weeks ago, we posted the first hints of just what the GTR1 would be capable of, with Galpin teasing that its 5.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 would produce in excess of 1000 horsepower, with a top speed of 225 miles per hour. Package all that in a coachbuilt body, and you have the recipe for one wicked supercar.
The price for the carbon fiber-bodied car is $1,024,000.
Now, we have all the glorious details. Galpin is targeting a production run of six cars, but if interest is strong enough, will expand its initial quote to 24 vehicles. The price for the carbon fiber-bodied car is $1,024,000. Opting for the aluminum bodywork could lower that, although it's not immediately clear by how much.

Ken Block walks you through his new 'Hoonigan Racing' HQ

Tue, 24 Jun 2014

Ken Block seems like one hell of a nice guy. I ran into him at CES this past January, and he dropped the video games he was playing to chat with me for a while. His crew also recently gave our Steve Ewing a tour of the offices you're about to see on this video. Good guy to know.
As it turns out, they're some fairly cool new digs. Dubbed 'Hoonigan Racing Division HQ,' the office is open to Ford Focus ST and Fiesta ST owners who attend the driving program offered out at Miller Motorsports Park. The very same program that Ewing reported on just recently.
Or, if you've no plans to buy an ST or travel to Utah any time soon, you can let Block show you around himself in this MTV Cribs-style video. With interior decorating that relies heavily on shipping containers and luxurious amenities like a ping pong table, 10 refrigerators and a bear(?), there's no lack of eye-candy in the driverly HQ. (Judging by Block's outfit, you'll probably not go thirsty if you're a Monster drinker, either.) Take the tour along with the Gymkhana master, below.
