1963 Ford Galaxie Xl Boxtop on 2040-cars
Warsaw, Indiana, United States
This is my 1963 Galaxie XL Boxtop. I built the engine, bought the transmission and Tru-Trac before I got the car here from an EBay auction from NM. I took it to my body man and told him to throw a cheap paint job on it because I was going to cut it up and make a drag car out of it. He called me back after he stripped it down and said he wouldn't paint it because he'd never seen a completely rust free 63 and he wasn't going to let me cut it up. I had Lunati make me a cam that would cruise with an engine that had a .042 quench and 10.6 CR. I called Jay Broader and exchanged the 9" torque converter for a 12" that would lock up at 2000 rpm. I installed 2.75 ring and pinion so I could cruise without hearing the engine rev too high. THEN, we proceeded to throw 40K at it doing a complete restoration. It's a beautiful car, not a trailer queen but looks good enough to win trophies everywhere I take it. I got 1st place in the 63-64 Galaxie Class at Carlisle last year also. I've put 15,000 miles on it since Nov of 2011. It goes to Gulfport, Carlisle and anywhere else we may need an air conditioner for the trip. It's set in traffic jams on I75 going through Cincinnati more than once without overheating. I get 16 mpg @2250 rpm cruising at 65mph. The whole front end is powder coated, A-arms too. I might consider partial trades up/down or trade for a really nice 66 Fairlane GTA. My name is Jim and my phone is 574-269-4666. I have the Restoration DVD if you want to see it. It's one of the best. Drives great. Idles at 650 rpm, no clunks or bangs going from Park, Reverse, Drive W/solenoid to increase rpm when air conditioner is on.

Find out if the Ford Fiesta ST can match Europe's latest hot hatches
Tue, 11 Feb 2014The V8 grunt of the Mustang has defined Ford performance cars in the US for the last 50 years, but in Europe, the Blue Oval has nearly as a long history of building some of the best hot hatches on the market with the Fiesta, Escort and later the Focus. The latest Fiesta ST has just hit the roads on both sides of the pond and has been enthusiastically received thanks to its combination of a peppy, turbocharged engine and hatchback utility.
However, Europe is getting a bumper crop of hot hatches at the moment, including the forthcoming, third-generation Mini Cooper S. Should Ford have waited to launch the ST until it knew how the competition performed? That's the answer that Xcar is after in its latest video, and it took the Fiesta to the track and some very misty, Welsh roads to find out. Scroll down to find out whether the ST stacks up.
Ford updates Power Stroke diesel V8, strengthens F-450, tweaks King Ranch
Thu, 26 Sep 2013Ford is giving its F-Series Super Duty trucks some upgrades for 2015, and we're happy to say that one of them is an improved Power Stroke diesel V8. Also, Ford is strengthening the top-of-the-line F-450 to handle more abuse. And if wild west-style luxury is your thing, the automaker has performed minor cosmetic updates to its King Ranch Edition trucks, as well.
The turbocharged 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 is currently rated at 400 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque, and Ford only tells us the new and improved Power Stroke can "produce power beyond today's" engine. What, then, did Ford actually improve upon? First, the Blue Oval swapped in a new, larger turbocharger. The new Garrett GT37 turbine unit is 72.5 millimeters in diameter, eclipsing the old GT32's 64-mm diameter piece. Ford states output increases with the new turbo setup, but since the new turbocharger operates at a lower peak pressure than the old one, the automaker was able to eliminate the wastegate system and reduce the engine's complexity. Ford even redesigned the turbo's oil and cooling lines to make the powerplant simpler. A byproduct of the larger turbo is better engine exhaust braking, which is controlled manually by a button on the dashboard.
Ford claims the upgraded diesel engine is more powerful, more robust, more efficient and more refined than before.
