WE DECIDED TO BUILD OUR HIGH SCHOOL DREAM CAR WHICH IS A 1963 1/2 FORD GALAXIE 500. SHE WAS A RUST FREE CALIFORNIA CAR AND WE TOOK HER DOWN TO THE BARE METAL. THE FRAME WAS BEAD BLASTED AND THEN PAINTED WITH EASTWOOD'S CERAMIC BLACK. ALL THE SUSPENSION HAS BEEN REBUILT. ALL RUBBER AND SEALS WERE CHANGED. WE REPLACED ALL POWER STEERING PARTS. NEW REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS AND ALL NEW BRAKE COMPONENTS WERE DONE. I HAD THE RADIATOR AND RESERVOIR TANK REBUILT. THE MOTOR WAS TOTALLY REBUILT TO ALL STOCK SPECS BY REDDIC BROTHERS IN MODESTO, CA. THE AIR UNIT WAS INSTALLED AT THIS TIME.
THE BODY WAS WAS REMOVED AND SENT OUT TO HAVE IT PREPARED FOR PAINT. IT WAS STRIPPED DOWN TO THE METAL AND SPRAYED A METAL ETCHING SEALER, FOLLOWED BY A HIGH QUALITY PRIMER/SEALER. ALL UPHOLSTERY WAS REDOE AND INSTALLED LOCALLY. NEW DASH PAD AND HEADLINER ALSO. ALL TRIM WAS STRIPPED AND RE-ANODIZED. NO AFTER MARKET TRIM. THE WHEELS ARE AMERICAN RACING TORQ-THRUST, CHROME OVER ALUMINUM. TIRES ARE HAVE 3000 MILES ON THEM AND LOOK NEW. THE 4-SPEED TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT TO FACTORY SPECS. TAKEN TO A FEW CAR SHOWS, GOOD GUYS ETC AND IT WINS EVERY TIME. IT LOOKS AND RUNS LIKE SHOWROOM! Ford to cease Australian automaking operations after 90 years
Thu, 23 May 2013Ford began manufacturing cars in Australia in 1925 with the Model T. In 2016, Ford will stop manufacturing cars Down Under, including the Falcon and the Territory SUV. Ford Australia CEO Bob Graziano has reportedly confirmed the closure of the company's Broadmeadows assembly plant and the Geelong engine plant, both in the state of Victoria. There will be 650 jobs lost at Broadmeadows, 510 sacrificed at Geelong. Of the roughly 3,000 workers the Blue Oval has in Australia, it's said it will try to retain about 1,000 of them at its R&D and product development facilities.
The writing hasn't just been on the wall, it's been a regular item in all the papers and on Ford's bottom line for years. As recently as 2003, Ford sold nearly 75,000 Falcons, but over the next four years, annual sales dropped by something like 10,000 units, and over the last two years, it has sold less than 20,000 per year. It isn't only Ford that has suffered - sales of the other large, locally produced sedan, the Holden Commodore, have also gone over the precipice, triggering the same kind of angst about Holden's continued existence. Ford is the smallest of Australia's local automakers, Holden and Toyota the others, and has posted losses of $AUD141 million last year ($136M US) and $AUD600 million ($580M US) in the past five years. Graziano said the cost of manufacturing is simply too expensive in the country, twice as high as Europe and three times as high as Asia, and there no way to make a business case for staying in the country.
In January 2012, Ford Australia announced it would stay in the country until at least 2016, but by July of the same year, most outside observers were quietly declaring that 2016 would be the last year of Ford Down Under, and even the speculation was making other observers nervous. Ford received money from the Victorian government last year to aid its refresh of the Falcon and Territory, which will continue on schedule for the 2014 model year. A front- and all-wheel-drive sedan on a global platform is predicted to replace the Falcon, with some other SUV expected to replace the Territory. The company says it still intends to expand its lineup in the country.
Ford will keep Escape and MKC plant open an extra week to meet demand
Thu, Jun 8 2017Crossovers keep selling like popular pastries, and for Ford, that means it needs to keep production going. The company announced that, rather than the usual two-week shutdown, its Louisville, Ky., assembly plant will be open for one of those weeks. The plant builds the Ford Escape and Lincoln MKC, which Ford reports have had record sales. According to Ford, Escape sales through May are up 3 percent, and MKC sales are up 10 percent compared with last year. In total, the Escape has sold about 130,000 units through May, and the MKC has sold around 11,000. Keeping the Louisville plant open will allow the company to build an additional 8,500 vehicles. Ford stated that all other assembly plants will continue with the two-week shutdown as scheduled. Ford Tourneo ready for duty in Connect, Courier and Custom flavors [w/videos]
Wed, 06 Mar 2013Ford was relatively quiet at the Geneva Motor Show, but it did take the opportunity to roll out its new family of Tourneo vans: the Courier, Connect, Grand Connect and Custom. As the passenger version of the Transit cargo vans, the new range of Tourneo models vary from the B-segment Courier up to the fullsize Custom. The Connect and Grand Connect are based on the redesigned 2014 Ford Transit Connect.
With an overall length just three inches longer than the Fiesta hatchback, the Tourneo Courier seats four to five passengers, and it offers a choice of three engines: the 1.0-liter EcoBoost or two small diesels. Like the 2014 Transit Connect was saw in Paris last year, the Tourneo Connect comes in a five-seat configuration while the Grand Connect can seat seven. Finally, the Tourneo Custom seats up to nine passengers, and it is available in two lengths up to 210 inches long putting it just six inches shorter than a standard-length E-Series van and about a foot longer than the Explorer.
