1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner Convertible on 2040-cars

I bought this car 3 years ago.  For the past 33 years this has been only a show car, winning a room full of trophies.  Always garaged.  Used only in shows and parades.  No dents or dings.  No rust or other corrosion.  Runs, drives and shows impressively.  The yellow paint is probably enamel and does not have the same high luster as today's urethanes and epoxies.  It could be improved with a clearcoat or by repainting.  The chrome and stainless steel trim, bumpers and interior parts are excellent.  The convertible top has a plastic weld seam repair 1 inch long.  It is nearly invisible.  The interior is excellent.  Everything works as it should including locks, switches, instruments, lights and accessories.  When I got the car, I had it thoroughly inspected for mechanicals and hidden damage.  The front ball joints and steering bushings showed some wear and I had them replaced.  Front end was then aligned and certified.  At that time I replaced the stock steel wheels and hubcaps with Thunderbird wire wheels and radial tires by Coker.  The Coker wire wheels accommodate tubeless tires and these are tubeless.  Greatly improved ride and handling.  Complete brake job with new wheel cylinder kits, brake shoes, turned drums.  250 miles on the new tires.
Engine is 352 ci, originally with a 2 barrel carb.  It got poor mileage and I replaced it with a Road Demon, progressive 4 barrel.  Much improved performance and mileage.  In order to retain the stock appearance of the engine, the 4 barrel intake manifold is a Ford cast iron part (really hard to find).  With the stock air cleaner on, you can't tell that the carb was changed.  Dual exhaust includes Cherry Bomb glasspack mufflers that sound strong without being annoying.

Transmission: Ford Cruise-O-Matic.  Power steering.  Non-power brakes.  I kept the original steel wheels with mounted tires and hubcaps.  They go with the car if you want them.  Original keys.  Original owner's manual, spare tire, jack, lug wrench.

It is difficult for a buyer to get complete answers to questions by emal through a third party.  I welcome your questions directly to me by phone or email or through E-Bay.  Brian: 505-573-7024, malpais25@msn.com.  If you have a general interest question, post it on E-Bay.

This car is a rare and unusual find.  It turns heads wherever it goes.  Bet you can't find another one in this excellent condition.

Does the new 2015 Ford Mustang have a burnout control system?

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

Whether it's lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring or automatic emergency braking, most of the electronic systems we see emerging on new vehicles focus on safety. But there are some there just for enthusiasts. We're talking about systems like automatic throttle blipping for perfect downshifts, or launch control to get that textbook acceleration from a standstill. But the latest system could prove just the opposite of the latter.
Although it has given us most of the details, Ford is still keeping certain elements of its new Mustang secret. But emerging reports may have the skinny on one system which Ford is trying is darnedest to keep under its hat for the time being. That, according to unnamed sources cited by Motor Authority, is burnout control.
The system is reportedly designed to help novices execute the perfect smokey burnout - sort of like launch control, but specifically the opposite. The system could, according to elaborative speculation, lock the front brakes while spooling up the engine to optimal revolutions before dumping (or indicating the driver to do dump) the clutch. A cloud of tire smoke and a long pair of skid marks would then ensue.

Ford is recalling more Takata airbag-equipped Ford and Lincoln models

Thu, Mar 2 2017

The Basics: Takata, the beleaguered airbag supplier at the root of the largest recall in automotive history, has informed Ford of a problem with the airbags in just over 30,000 Ford and Lincoln models. The problem is not related to the non-desiccated ammonium nitrate airbag inflators that plague the other airbags ( including many Fords), meaning there isn't a risk of shrapnel flying out from the units in this particular recall. The Problem: In the event of an accident, the front airbags may only partially inflate, and the airbag may become detached from the module because of misaligned parts. The problem affects 2016 and 2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX models built at the Oakville Assembly Plant. The issue also affects 2017 Lincoln Continentals that were built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Injuries/Deaths: In a release, Ford stated that it is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or deaths related to the airbag issue. The Fix: Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag module at no cost. If You Own One: Sit tight and wait for Ford to notify owners. When that happens, take your car to the dealer for a replacement. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Automakers donating money, vehicles and supplies to Oklahoma tornado relief effort

Fri, 24 May 2013

Judging by the destruction the Oklahoma City area experienced earlier this week, residents are going to need a lot of help in coming months. Fortunately, a number of automakers - including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Volkswagen, Honda and Toyota - have stepped up to donate money, supplies and vehicles to aid in the recovery and rebuilding processes.
Here's a quick rundown of which automakers have pitched in and what each contributed so far:
Ford Motor Company has donating $250,000 and a Transit Connect to the American Red Cross, and it will match all other donations made to the Red Cross (up to $250,000) using a special URL tied to the latter's website (link here). Additionally, its local Oklahoma dealers have thrown in an extra $150,000 for the United Way and the automaker will be offering an extra $500 toward the purchase of a new Ford vehicle.
